The Delaware Beaches are located along the Atlantic Ocean in the eastern part of Sussex County, Delaware, which is in the southern part of the state. In addition to beaches along the ocean, the area offers many amenities, including restaurants, nightlife, fishing, golf courses, boardwalk areas, and tax-free shopping. The beaches are popular tourist destinations for residents from the nearby areas of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Wilmington, Philadelphia, South Jersey, and Hampton Roads. Out of the 30 states with coastline, the Delaware Beaches ranked number 1 in water quality in 2011 and again in 2014.

The Indian River Life-Saving Station was established at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware in 1876 to rescue mariners shipwrecked along the Delaware coast, as part of the United States Life-Saving Service. It was designed in 1874 as a 1+1⁄2-story board-and-batten frame structure with decorative brackets supporting overhanging eaves in a version of the Queen Anne style. It sheltered a surfboat which could be quickly rolled out through double doors facing the beach and down a ramp to the water. The main station house remains of what was once a complex that included a barn, stable, meat house, feed house and privy. An auxiliary boathouse stood about a mile to the south. The original plans for the station survive.The facility was moved back from the water's edge in 1877 due to coastal erosion. In 1915, the United States Life-Saving Service merged with the Revenue Cutter Service to form the United States Coast Guard. The station was converted to a Coast Guard station and occupied until the Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962, which left it partially buried in sand. A new Coast Guard station was built nearby in 1964. The original station was restored by the Delaware Seashore Preservation Foundation, and is now operated as the Indian River Life-Saving Station Museum by Delaware State Parks, as part of Delaware Seashore State Park.The Indian River Life Saving Service Station was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1976.

Lingo Landing, Delaware is a locality on the southwest shore of Rehoboth Bay located six miles south of Rehoboth Beach in Sussex County, Delaware.

Delaware Seashore State Park is located near Dewey Beach, in Delaware, United States. It is bounded on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and on the west by Rehoboth Bay and Indian River Bay. The park covers 2,825 acres (1,143 ha). It is a major attraction for millions of visitors who come to the Delaware Beaches for water-related activities. Delaware Seashore State Park was created in 1965.

Indian River Bay is a body of water in Sussex County, Delaware. It is part of Delaware's inland bay system, along with Little Assawoman Bay and Rehoboth Bay. Fed by the Indian River at its western end, the bay is connected to the Atlantic Ocean to the east via the Indian River Inlet. A natural waterway that shifted up and down a two-mile (3.2 km) stretch of the coast until 1928, the inlet was kept in its current location by dredging between 1928 and 1937, and in 1938 was fixed in place by the construction of jetties. The Charles W. Cullen Bridge, commonly known as the Indian River Inlet Bridge, spans the inlet. Indian River Bay is unique among Delaware's inland bays in that it is a drowned river valley, whereas Delaware's other bays are estuaries built on sand bars.

Sussex Shores is an unincorporated community in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. Sussex Shores is located along the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Route 1, north of Bethany Beach and south of Delaware Seashore State Park. Sussex Shores was built in the 1950s and was the first of several developments built to the north of Bethany Beach.

The Tunnell–West House is a historic house at 39 Central Avenue in Ocean View, Delaware. The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was built sometime between 1868 and 1890, and is a distinctive local example of vernacular Gothic Revival style. Elements of the building's interior are particularly well preserved, including door hardware and trim elements. The local historical society is adapting the house for use as a museum.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Rehoboth Bay is a body of water in Sussex County, Delaware. It is connected to the Broadkill River by the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal. It is part of Delaware's inland bay system, along with Little Assawoman Bay and Indian River Bay. Of Delaware's Inland Bays, both Rehoboth Bay and Little Assawoman Bay are barbuilt estuaries, while Indian River Bay is a drowned river valley. Rehoboth Bay is the northernmost of Delaware's inland bays. Its depth is generally shallow, less than 6 to 7 feet below Mean Lower Low Water. The surface area of the bay is approximately 13 square miles. Rehoboth Bay receives fresh water discharges from a number of small creeks along the bay, including White Oak Creek, Love Creek, Herring Creek, and Guinea Creek. Rehoboth Bay is linked to Indian River Bay to the south, providing tidal exchange with the Atlantic Ocean through Indian River Inlet, which is stabilized by two parallel stone jetties. At the north end of the Bay, the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal connects Rehoboth Bay to the Delaware Bay as part of the Intracoastal Waterway. Tidal flow provides some exchange of water between the Delaware Bay and Rehoboth Bay through the canal.

The Evans–West House is a historic house at 40 West Avenue (corner of Oakwood) in Ocean View, Delaware. It is a 2+1⁄2-story L-shaped wood-frame house, with clapboard siding, a cross-gable roof configuration, and a brick foundation. Its front, facing north toward Oakwood Avenue, is three bays wide, with a single-story hip-roofed porch extending across most of its width, supported by turned columns. The gable at the center of the roof has a pointed window at its center. The house, built 1900–04, is noted for a particularly well-preserved interior, with original floors, porcelain kitchen sink, and etched glass pane in the front door. The property is owned by the Ocean View Historical Society.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Bethany Beach is an incorporated town in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. According to the 2010 Census Bureau figures, the population of the town is 1,060; however, during the summer months some 15,000 more populate the town as vacationers. It is part of the Salisbury, MD-DE Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bethany Beach, South Bethany and Fenwick Island are popularly known as "The Quiet Resorts". Contributing to Bethany Beach's reputation as a "quiet" place is the presence of Delaware Seashore State Park immediately to the north of the town. Despite its small size, Bethany Beach contains the usual attractions of a summer seaside resort, including the short Joseph Olson Boardwalk, a broad, sandy beach, motels, restaurants, and vacation homes. Because Bethany Beach does not sit on a barrier island, residential areas continue some distance to the west of the town's limits.

The Dinker-Irvin House is a historic house at 310 Garfield Parkway Extended in Bethany Beach, Delaware. Built in 1904 by William A. Dinker, it is one of the oldest early 20th-century summer cottages in the community. Between 1922 and 1925 it served as the community post office, and is the only public-use building from that era to survive. It has twice been moved, once over a property dispute, and in 2007 due to road works. The house has been acquired by the city, with plans to convert it into a museum.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.

Ocean View is a town in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. The population was 1,882 at the 2010 census, an increase of 87.1% over the previous decade. It is part of the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area and lies in Baltimore Hundred. Ocean View is fast becoming a bedroom community for the neighboring summer resort of Bethany Beach.
