Chalakudy is one of the 20 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in the South Indian state of Kerala. It came into existence in 2008, following the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies based on recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India. The constituency comprises seven assembly segments spread over two districts—Thrissur (3) and Ernakulam (4).

Thazhekad, is the site of one of the earliest St Thomas Christian communities in Kerala. Once a prosperous inland port, during heyday of Muziris. The landscape was changed with the great floods of 1341AD. It is the site of the Thazhekad Sasanam, a stone inscribed with one of the earliest surviving edicts granting special privileges to the St Thomas Christians. The inscription can be dated palaeographically to between the 8th and 10th centuries. The Thazhekad St Sebastian church is one of the oldest in Kerala dating back to AD 800. The church is also the largest pilgrimage center in the Irinjalakuda Diocese. The churches and temples in the area were ravaged by Tippu Sultan's army, during his invasion of the south, between 1789 and 1791.

Iranikulam Sree Mahadeva Temple is located at Iranikulam, Mala in Thrissur district. The temple has two main deities, Thekkadathappan and Vadakkedathappan. Both deities are Lord Shiva. In the rehabilitation of the temple, the new idol was replaced by a broken statue. The South shrine is generally considered to be the two-level Sanctum sanctorum shrine of Lord Shiva. The presiding deities of north shrine are Lord Shiva, Parvati and Subramanya dwell at the same altar in the sanctum sanctorum facing east. It is believed that this temple is one of the 108 Shiva temples of Kerala and is installed by sage Parasurama dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located center of ancient Iranikulam grama (village). Maha Shivarathri festival of the temple celebrates in the Malayalam month of Kumbha (February - March).

Kallamkunnu is the second-largest city (Small City) in Nadavaramba and 15th-largest in Irinjalakuda. With an estimated population of 3000 in 2007, it is the principal Ward of the Velukkara Panchayath Area, a region about 500 residents projected to reach 700 between 2010 and 2012.
