Bishopstown

Bishopstown Community School is a secondary school in the Bishopstown area of Cork city in Ireland. Established in 1979, it is the only co-educational secondary school in the area.Past pupils of the school include members of the band The Frank and Walters.In 2015 Bishopstown Community School was awarded the amber flag for the work of its students and staff in promoting positive mental health. In addition to this the school has produced a number of publications in this area.

Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) (Irish: Institiúid Teicneolaíochta Chorcaí) was a third level educational institution in Ireland, located in Cork. Upon its dissolution, the institute had 17,000 students (both part-time and full-time) in art, business, engineering, music, drama and science disciplines. The institute had been named as Institute of Technology of the Year in The Sunday Times University Guide for Ireland on numerous occasions. On 1 January 2021, CIT merged with IT Tralee to become Munster Technological University, Ireland's second Technological University.Cork Institute of Technology consisted of two constituent faculties and three constituent colleges. The constituent faculties were Engineering and Science, and Business and Humanities. The constituent colleges were the CIT Crawford College of Art and Design, the CIT Cork School of Music and the National Maritime College of Ireland. Faculties were made up of Schools which in turn comprise two or more academic departments. As of May 2020, CIT had 1,465 staff members of whom 862 were academic staff.

Bishopstown Hurling and Football Club is a Cork-based Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Bishopstown area of Cork city, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1957.

Bishopstown Stadium (Irish: Staid a' Baile an Easpaig) is an association football stadium located in Bishopstown on the western outskirts of Cork, Ireland. It is the home ground of Women's National League (WNL) club Cork City WFC. Formerly the home ground of League of Ireland club Cork City FC, it later became their training ground. Cork City FC's move to Bishopstown in 1993 proved costly and unpopular with fans, while the condition of the pitch quickly became "notorious". With Cork City on the verge of liquidation in November 1995, the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) bought the stadium for £70,000 to be shared amongst the club's creditors. Under new ownership Cork City returned to Turners Cross in 1996.Property speculators McCarthy Developments then bought the Bishopstown ground and twice tried to turn it into student accommodation serving the Cork Institute of Technology, only to be refused planning permission. They rented the site back to Cork City as a training ground and administrative base in early 2010. Cork Women's FC began using the facility as their home ground in 2013, as they forged closer links with the owners of the male Cork City club.

Glasheen (Irish: An Glaisín) is a suburb in south central Cork city in Ireland. The area earned its name from the stream that flows through it, under the Glasheen Road. Glasheen means small stream in Irish. The local schools include Glasheen B.N.S and Glasheen G.N.S.

Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium is a greyhound racing track located in Bishopstown, west of Cork, County Cork, Ireland.Racing takes place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening and the facilities include the grandstand Laurels restaurant, fast food facilities, a number of bars, totalisator betting and ample seating. Race distances are 330, 525, 550, 575, and 750 yards and the feature competitions at the track is the Laurels.

The Carrigrohane Straight is a straight segment of road that stretches for 2.75 miles (4.43 km), from the edge of Cork west to Carrigrohane in County Cork, Ireland. It is just over 140 years old, and now forms part of the N22 National Primary route between Cork and Tralee.

Cork University Hospital (Irish: Ospidéal na hOllscoile Corcaigh) is a large university teaching hospital in Wilton, Cork in Ireland. Its academic partner is University College Cork. It is the only Level 1 Trauma Centre in Ireland. It is a public hospital managed by the South/Southwest Hospital Group, a part of the Health Service Executive.

Wilton Shopping Centre, located in the Wilton area of Cork, is the second biggest shopping centre in the city. It opened on 6 December 1979, and has 65 shops. In 2003, construction began to add 10 new units, and outlets in the centre now include Tesco, Penneys, New Look, Life Style Sports, and Easons.Permission to build a library on the shopping centre grounds was granted in 2004, and Bishopstown Library was opened in 2006. Other facilities adjacent to Wilton Shopping Centre include St Joseph's (S.M.A. Wilton) Catholic Church, Ulster Bank and Bank of Ireland branches, and the Wilton Bar and Restaurant.

Wilton is a suburb of Cork City. It is the site of Cork University Hospital, Cork's largest hospital. Other landmarks include Wilton Shopping Centre and St. Finbarr's Cemetery, which lies on the border between Wilton and Glasheen and is the resting place of some of Cork's most notable citizens.

The River Lee (Irish: An Laoi) is a river in Ireland. It rises in the Shehy Mountains on the western border of County Cork and flows eastwards through Cork, where it splits in two for a short distance, creating an island on which Cork's city centre is built, then passing through Cork Harbour on the south coast, one of the largest natural harbours in the world, to empty into the Celtic Sea. The catchment area of the River Lee is 1,253 km2. The long-term average flow rate of the River Lee is 40.4 cubic metres per second (m3/s)A hydro-electric scheme was built on the river, upstream from Cork City, and this part of the river now contains the Carrigadrohid and Inniscarra reservoirs. The river is crossed by 42 bridges, 29 of which are in Cork City, and one tunnel. The river also provides an 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) stretch of salmon fishing.
