Chapel Point State Park is an undeveloped public recreation area located on the Port Tobacco River, a tributary of the Potomac, in Charles County, Maryland. The state park offers fishing and hunting. Adjacent to the park, St. Ignatius Church and cemetery, the oldest continuous Roman Catholic parish in the United States, offers a scenic river view.

St. Thomas Manor (1741) is a historic home and Catholic church complex located near Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland. Known as St. Ignatius Church and Cemetery, the manor house complex is the oldest continuously occupied Jesuit residence in the world. The mission settlement of Chapel Point was established in 1641 by Father Andrew White, S.J., an English Jesuit missionary. Father White ministered to the Potapoco Native Americans, some of whom he converted to Catholicism. Established in 1662, this is the oldest continuously active Roman Catholic parish in the American Thirteen Colonies. With the consecration in 1794 of Bishop John Carroll, St. Thomas became the first Roman Catholic see in the United States.

The McConchie One-Room School was a one-room school in Welcome, Maryland, that served Black children from grades 1 to 7.It was open from 1912 to 1952 at Route 6 and Point Blossom Road in Welcome, Maryland. Edna Warren Simmons served as a teacher from 1922, when she was hired as a short-term substitute, until a few years prior to the closure. It closed in 1952 due to a consolidation of Negro schools with those of nearby Port Tobacco, Maryland.

Bel Alton is an unincorporated community in Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is marked by old-style motels, a popular "bikers'" tavern, and other small businesses along U.S. Route 301 catering to local residents and interstate travelers. A series of interpretive signs on a side road mark various spots where, in April 1865, John Wilkes Booth stopped to hide during his flight south after assassinating President Abraham Lincoln. St. Ignatius Church and Cemetery, the oldest continuous Roman Catholic parish in the United States (although this claim is contested by another church in New Mexico), is two miles west of Bel Alton on a scenic bluff overlooking a wide inlet of the Potomac River. The county fairgrounds are also nearby. The former Bel Alton African American high school building is now used for community activities. Before 1891, Bel Alton was known as Cox's Station after a local resident. The area is poised for growth as construction has started on a housing development, "Stagecoach Crossing", two miles north. Rich Hill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Port Tobacco, officially Port Tobacco Village, is a town in Charles County, in southern Maryland, United States. The population was 13 at the 2010 census, making Port Tobacco the smallest incorporated town in Maryland.

Stagg Hall, is a historic home located at Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is a two-story frame house built about 1766 adjacent to Port Tobacco's former town square. It was built by Thomas Howe Ridgate, a prosperous Port Tobacco merchant.Stagg Hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.In 1903, Mary Lucilla Barbour purchased Stagg Hall from the William W. Padgett estate. After her death, her son, William Edgar Barbour, acquired the property from his father and siblings in 1934. In 1950, the heirs of William Edgar Barbour conveyed their interest in Stagg Hall to Robert Taylor Barbour and his wife, Phyllis, thus making them the owners of the property. Stagg Hall was acquired by the Charles County Government in 2013 for the price of $525,000.

The Port Tobacco River is a tidal tributary of the Potomac River located in Charles County, Maryland in the United States. The river is approximately 4.2 miles (6.8 km) in length. Port Tobacco, the county seat of Charles County from 1658 to 1895, was an active port until that portion of the river became silted and unnavigable. When the railroad bypassed the town, business declined, and the county seat was moved to La Plata, Maryland.

Port Tobacco Historic District is a national historic district in Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland. It is located along both sides of Chapel Point Road immediately south of Maryland Route 6. It includes five surviving 18th- and 19th-century buildings; four have been privately restored as single-family residences. The fifth was renovated for use as a children's museum. Two of these buildings, Chimney House and Stagg Hall (listed separately), are immediately adjacent to one another at one corner of the town square. In 1972, the 1821–1892 courthouse was reconstructed on its original site for use as a museum of local history. Other buildings include several private residences built after 1940. A brick wellhouse was erected in 1958 to commemorate the county's tercentenary. Approximately 90 percent of the historic features of the community constitute archeological sites, nearly all of which have remained undisturbed by later development.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Rose Hill is a historic house built in the late 18th century near Port Tobacco in Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is a five-part, Georgian-style dwelling house. It has a two-story central block with gable ends. It was restored during the mid 20th century.Rose Hill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Johnsontown Tobacco Barn No. 2 is a historic tobacco barn in Charles County, Maryland, near La Plata. The barn was built c. 1820, and provides evidence of early use of fire in the tobacco curing process. The framing of the barn is hand-hewn timbers secured by wooden pegs, with pit-sawn secondary framing members. The exterior is sheathed in vertical board siding, although there is evidence that it was originally sheathed in horizontal siding.The barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Ellerslie is a historic home located at Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is a two-story frame house of basic Georgian styling, with two exterior chimneys at each end. It was possibly built as early as the mid 18th century, and was extensively altered and enlarged about 1790–1820. A porch was added in 1965. It is the birthplace of Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer, a Founding Father of the United States and signer of the United States Constitution. Ellerslie was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Mount Air is a historic home located at Faulkner, Charles County, Maryland, United States. It was built in 1801, and is basically a regionally typical Federal style house with a three-story central block with complementary wings. The home has the only known boxwood garden in lower Southern Maryland of its dimensions and age to retain its original formal plan.Mount Air was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
