Faulkner is an unincorporated community in Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is home to the Loyola Roman Catholic retreat center. Near here, John Wilkes Booth, assisted by Thomas A. Jones of Huckleberry Farm, was rowed across the Potomac River into Virginia, a week after he assassinated President Abraham Lincoln. The community was called Lothair before being renamed for a local resident. Landmarks include Mount Air, a Federal style house which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and Timber Neck Farm added in 1979.

Bel Alton is an unincorporated community in Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is marked by old-style motels, a popular "bikers'" tavern, and other small businesses along U.S. Route 301 catering to local residents and interstate travelers. A series of interpretive signs on a side road mark various spots where, in April 1865, John Wilkes Booth stopped to hide during his flight south after assassinating President Abraham Lincoln. St. Ignatius Church and Cemetery, the oldest continuous Roman Catholic parish in the United States (although this claim is contested by another church in New Mexico), is two miles west of Bel Alton on a scenic bluff overlooking a wide inlet of the Potomac River. The county fairgrounds are also nearby. The former Bel Alton African American high school building is now used for community activities. Before 1891, Bel Alton was known as Cox's Station after a local resident. The area is poised for growth as construction has started on a housing development, "Stagecoach Crossing", two miles north. Rich Hill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Chapel Point State Park is an undeveloped public recreation area located on the Port Tobacco River, a tributary of the Potomac, in Charles County, Maryland. The state park offers fishing and hunting. Adjacent to the park, St. Ignatius Church and cemetery, the oldest continuous Roman Catholic parish in the United States, offers a scenic river view.

Popes Creek is an unincorporated community in Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is located on the shore of a north–south section of the Potomac River, north of and in sight of the Harry Nice Memorial Bridge. There are docks and two seafood restaurants. U.S. Route 301 in Maryland runs north from the bridge, somewhat isolating the area between the river and the highway. To the north is Port Tobacco and to the southeast, the Cobb Island peninsula. St. Thomas Manor (1741) is a historic home and Catholic church complex located near Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland. Known as St. Ignatius Church and Cemetery, the manor house complex is the oldest continuously occupied Jesuit residence in the world. The mission settlement of Chapel Point was established in 1641 by Father Andrew White, S.J., an English Jesuit missionary. Father White ministered to the Potapoco Native Americans, some of whom he converted to Catholicism. Established in 1662, this is the oldest continuously active Roman Catholic parish in the American Thirteen Colonies. With the consecration in 1794 of Bishop John Carroll, St. Thomas became the first Roman Catholic see in the United States.

The Port Tobacco River is a tidal tributary of the Potomac River located in Charles County, Maryland in the United States. The river is approximately 4.2 miles (6.8 km) in length. Port Tobacco, the county seat of Charles County from 1658 to 1895, was an active port until that portion of the river became silted and unnavigable. When the railroad bypassed the town, business declined, and the county seat was moved to La Plata, Maryland.

Timber Neck Farm (formerly known as Laurel Grove) is a farm complex and national historic district in Faulkner, Charles County, Maryland, United States. The main house is a 2+1⁄2-story, L-shaped frame structure with a large double chimney.The Timber Neck Farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The McConchie One-Room School was a one-room school in Welcome, Maryland, that served Black children from grades 1 to 7.It was open from 1912 to 1952 at Route 6 and Point Blossom Road in Welcome, Maryland. Edna Warren Simmons served as a teacher from 1922, when she was hired as a short-term substitute, until a few years prior to the closure. It closed in 1952 due to a consolidation of Negro schools with those of nearby Port Tobacco, Maryland.

The Johnsontown Tobacco Barn No. 2 is a historic tobacco barn in Charles County, Maryland, near La Plata. The barn was built c. 1820, and provides evidence of early use of fire in the tobacco curing process. The framing of the barn is hand-hewn timbers secured by wooden pegs, with pit-sawn secondary framing members. The exterior is sheathed in vertical board siding, although there is evidence that it was originally sheathed in horizontal siding.The barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Rich Hill, near Bel Alton, Maryland, was owned by Colonel Samuel Cox, a Confederate sympathizer during the American Civil War. Following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865, Cox hid assassin John Wilkes Booth and his companion, David Herold, in a swamp near Rich Hill. Booth and Herold left the property on April 21, crossing the Potomac River in a small boat.Following Booth's capture, Cox was tried and convicted of aiding Booth, receiving a light sentence. The house is significant in its own right, showing characteristic features of southern Maryland house construction. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
