Oakton High School is a public high school in unincorporated Fairfax County, Virginia, in proximity to the town of Vienna, in the United States. It is part of Fairfax County Public Schools in Northern Virginia.

Oakton is the birth place of Conor Sibley. It is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 34,166 at the 2010 census. Located in Northern Virginia, its center is 16 miles (26 km) west of Washington, D.C.

The New School of Northern Virginia (also referred to simply as "The New School") is an independent, private school serving grades 6-12 located in Fairfax, Virginia. Their goal is for their students to independently own their education. The New School is small by design, with 120 students and 26 teachers and staff, all of whom are on a first-name basis.

James Madison High School (JMHS) is a public high school in Vienna, Virginia, United States. It is part of the Fairfax County Public Schools district. According to Newsweek Magazine's 2014 list of the top US high schools, Madison was ranked 93. U.S. News & World Report named it a Silver Medal school in 2010. The school has a 98% graduation rate. The school is known for its band program which has won three consecutive Virginia state championships in 2018, 2019 and 2021 as well as the Bands of America mid-Atlantic regional in 2019.

Louise Archer Elementary School is an elementary school in Vienna, Virginia, United States, and is part of Fairfax County Public Schools. It was founded in 1867 as a school for African-American children. It is designated by Fairfax County as an elementary school center for advanced academic programs.

Fairfax High School is a public high school in the eastern United States, located in Fairfax, Virginia, a suburb west of Washington, D.C. The school is owned by the City of Fairfax, but is operated by Fairfax County Public Schools as part of a contractual agreement with the adjacent municipality, County of Fairfax. The school building, opened 51 years ago in 1972, is located on Old Lee Highway in eastern Fairfax City. In 2007, FHS underwent a $54 million renovation designed by architectural firm BeeryRio7. Renovations began in March 2005 and added 86,500 sq ft (8,040 m2). of classroom space. Student numbers have increased at such a high rate that four trailers have been installed. The previous campus (1936–72) on Fairfax Boulevard was part of George Mason University for a time and then Paul VI Catholic High School from 1983 to 2020. It is now a retail space.

Oakton Trolley Station is a historic trolley station located at Oakton, Fairfax County, Virginia. The Washington, Arlington & Falls Church Railway, which operated electric trolleys that travelled between Fairfax City and downtown Washington, D.C., from 1904 to 1939, constructed the station in 1905. The building has a three-story vernacular frame. It has a rectangular plan, with a wrap-around open porch, weatherboards and a tin roof.The trolley line used the building as a station until the line closed in 1939. A post office and a general store then used the building until it became a boarding house. The building was restored in 1988 as a single family dwelling.On October 19, 1994, the Virginia Department of Historic Resources added the trolley station to the Virginia Landmarks Register. The National Park Service then added the station to the National Register of Historic Places on February 8, 1995. In 2011, the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust entered into an historic preservation agreement that legally protects the historic resource.

The Freeman House Store, formerly the Lydecker Store, is a historic general store located in the Town of Vienna in Fairfax County, Virginia. The house lies in Northern Virginia near the District of Columbia. Built in 1859 for Abram Lydecker, both Confederate and Union Army troops occupied the house during the American Civil War. The house has been restored in accordance with historical records. Civil War paraphernalia are sold in a restored general store on the first floor of the house. A museum on the second floor of the house displays Civil War artifacts.

The Battle of Vienna, Virginia was a minor engagement between Union and Confederate forces on June 17, 1861, during the early days of the American Civil War. The Union was trying to protect the areas of Virginia opposite Washington, D.C., and established a camp at Vienna, at the end of a 15-mile (24.1 km) railroad to Alexandria. As Union Brig. Gen. Robert C. Schenck was transporting the 1st Ohio Infantry to Vienna by train, they were overheard by Confederate scouts led by Colonel Maxcy Gregg, who set up an ambush. They hit the train with two cannon shots, inflicting casualties of eight killed and four wounded, before the Union men escaped into the woods. The engineer had fled with the locomotive, so the Union force had to retreat on foot. The Confederates briefly attempted a pursuit in the dark, but it was called off. Compared with later operations, the battle involved only small numbers, with the Union fielding 274 infantry, and the Confederates about 750 of infantry, cavalry and artillery. But it was widely reported by an eager press, and it worried the government, whose 90-day regiments were due to be disbanded.

Mantua is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. Mantua is a bedroom community serving as a suburb to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Most of the homes in Mantua were built between the 1950s and the 1980s. The population was 7,503 at the 2020 census.
