Millbrook Mountain

The Trapps Mountain Hamlet Historic District is located on the Shawangunk Ridge in Gardiner, New York, United States. It is a large area that covers the site of a settlement that thrived there from the late 18th to mid-20th centuries. Inhabitants practiced subsistence farming, making it one of the rare such communities in the East to have left any trace remaining. They supplemented that with a variety of other trades, primarily in the forest products industry, with most inhabitants gradually coming to work at nearby mountain resorts in the 20th century. The last resident died in 1956. Only foundations remain for most of the buildings, and only six remain standing. Those that do show a unique structural system that suggests an influence of the Native American tribes that lived in the area at the time it was settled. Today most of them are on protected lands in the area, with a few privately owned. In 2000 the area was designated a historic district and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Mohonk Preserve is a nature preserve in the Shawangunk Ridge, 90 miles (140 km) north of New York City in Ulster County, New York. The preserve has over 8,000 acres (32 km2) of cliffs, forests, fields, ponds and streams, with over 70 miles (110 km) of carriage roads and 40 miles (64 km) of trails for hiking, cycling, trail running, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and horseback riding. It is also a major destination for rock climbers, hosting 50,000 climbers each year who enjoy more than 1,000 climbing routes.

Brykill Farm, originally just Brykill, is a family-owned organic grass-fed beef ranch located on Bruynswick Road (Ulster County Route 7) in Gardiner, New York, United States. Formerly a country estate, its 180 acres (73 ha) have a panoramic view of the Shawangunks to the west. First built as a small settler's home in 1724 and used as a court during the mid-19th century, it was expanded considerably in 1927 in a sympathetic style and material. In 1983 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It has been a ranch, with cottages for weekend visitors, since 2000.

Bruynswick School No. 8 is a former school located on Bruynswick Road (Ulster County Route 7) in the small hamlet of the same name in the northwestern portion of Shawangunk, New York, United States. It is one of the few remainders of a time when Bruynswick was more populous. The building is on a small lot next to the Shawangunk Valley firehouse on the west side of the road, just south of the Gardiner town line. The Shawangunk Ridge dominates the view to the west across mostly open rural land. It is a frame one-room schoolhouse, three bays by three and one story in height. It sits on a stone foundation with a gabled roof shingled in asphalt.The front facade faces east and features a centrally located entrance amid simple wooden surrounds and a lunette in the gable apex. The windows on either side have louvered shutters. A wood plaque above the door has "District No. 8" painted on it. Both north and south profiles have two similarly shuttered windows; with an additional, smaller third on the south with an awning. The rear is blank with the exception of a small shed addition.Inside, much of the original floor plan and finishes remain. A bedroom has been created in the southeast corner, and a second-story loft added. The shed serves as a bathroom and utility room. A garage and privy are also located on the property; these are of modern construction and not considered contributing resources.The schoolhouse was built in 1840 to replace an older school a quarter-mile (400 m) to the south. It continued to be used as a school until 1943, when the Wallkill Central School District was created. Some modifications, such as the front lunette, were made in the 1950s to convert it into a private home. In 2000 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Peter Aldrich Homestead is a historic home located at Gardiner in Ulster County, New York. It is a 1+1⁄2-story frame dwelling built in stages, with the oldest section dating to about 1750. The interior features notable Federal period decorative woodwork.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Reformed Church of Shawangunk is located along Hoagerburgh Road in the Bruynswick section of the Town of Shawangunk, Ulster County, New York, United States. Perched above the Shawangunk Kill, it enjoys a splendid view of the nearby Shawangunk Ridge. Built between 1752–55, it is the oldest building in continuous use among American congregations of the Dutch Reformed Church.It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and has played a role in the development of the larger Reformed Church in the U.S. through some church leaders who began their careers there.

The Tuthilltown Gristmill is located off Albany Post Road (Ulster County Route 9) in Gardiner, New York, United States. It was built in 1788, as the National Register reports, and has been expanded several times since. Until recently it was the oldest continuously operated grist mill in the state. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Around that time it began producing kosher flour for use in baking matzoh. In 2007, its present owners began converting it into a restaurant TuthillHouse at the Mill opening in August, 2010.

The Minnewaska State Park Preserve is a 22,275-acre (90.14 km2) preserve located on the Shawangunk Ridge in Ulster County, New York on US 44/NY 55, five miles (8.0 km) west of New York State Route 299. The park, which features scenic overlooks of the nearby Catskill Mountains, is primarily used for picnicking, hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing and swimming. The park is managed by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Four of the five sky lakes on the Shawangunk Ridge lie within the preserve: Lake Minnewaska, Lake Awosting, Mud Pond (also known as Lake Haseco), and Lake Maratanza; Mohonk Lake is on the property of the Mohonk Mountain House to the north of Minnewaska. Lake Minnewaska is a bit less than one-half mile (0.8 km) long by one-eighth mile (0.2 km) wide at its widest point. Lake Awosting is roughly three times as large, with a length of about one and an eighth miles (1.8 km) and a maximum width of about one-quarter mile (0.4 km) mile.

The Bevier House is located on Bevier Road in Gardiner, New York, United States. It is a frame house built in the mid-19th century. It is one of the few remaining intact farmhouses in Gardiner from before the Civil War, with a decorative front facade and marbleized main staircase. In 1983 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Johannes Jansen House, also known as Johannes Jansen House and Dutch Barn, is located along Decker Road at the foot of the Shawangunk Ridge in the western section of the Town of Shawangunk, in Ulster County, New York, United States. It was started by Jansen, who had settled the area along with his brother Thomas, whose own house is a mile (1.6 km) to the southeast, in 1750. His son finished it in the newer Federal style 53 years later. The property also boasts a Dutch barn.It and the house were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Tuthilltown Bridge is located in the Town of Gardiner in Ulster County, New York, United States, approximately 1 miles (1.6 km) west of the eponymous hamlet. It carries US 44/NY 55 across the north-flowing Wallkill River just downstream from where it is joined by the Shawangunk Kill, its largest tributary. It is a steel through truss bridge built in 1938 and reconstructed in 1993The bridge was built to replace a ford, still visible upstream from the bridge. Tuthilltown, the settlement that once flourished in the area, had been the western terminus of the Farmer's Turnpike, built in 1850 to provide local farmers with access to shipping on the Hudson River 20 miles (32 km) to the east. The area is today known just as Tuthill, but the bridge, the Tuthilltown Gristmill and a nearby road retain the old name.

The Shawangunk Kill is a 47.2-mile-long (76.0 km) stream that flows northward through Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties, New York, in the United States. It is the largest tributary of the Wallkill River. It takes its name from the neighboring Shawangunk Ridge, where it rises in the town of Greenville, then flowing down into the valley. For part of its length, it forms the northwestern boundary of Orange County, with first Sullivan and then Ulster County along the other side.
