The estate's house was built in 1928 as the summer family compound of American businessman Raymond Pitcairn, whose family founded PPG Industries. Since 1999 the property has been the location of Allaire Studios, a recording facility.

Olive and Hurley Old School Baptist Church is an historic Baptist meeting house on NY Route 28, at the junction with Ulster County Route 30 in Shokan, New York. It was built in 1857 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Shokan is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in the town of Olive in Ulster County, New York, United States, within the Catskill Park. The population was 1,075 at the 2020 census.

Ashokan was a former railroad station located in the Shokan section of the town of Olive, Ulster County, New York, United States. Located 16.2 miles (26.1 km) from the terminus at Kingston Point in Kingston, it was located along the Ulster and Delaware Railroad, later the Catskill Mountain Branch of the New York Central Railroad. The station opened on June 8, 1913, when the railroad abandoned their former alignment due to the construction of the Ashokan Reservoir. The railroad moved the station depot at Brown's Station to Ashokan for service.The New York Central Railroad discontinued passenger service on the line on March 31, 1954. The depot would then be moved to Woodstock, New York in May 1970. The station site and the right-of-way, is now part of the Ashokan Rail Trail, an 11.5-mile (18.5 km) long rail trail from West Hurley to Cold Brook.

Roundtop Mountain is a mountain located in the Catskill Mountains of New York north-northwest of Wittenberg. Beetree Hill is located east-northeast, Johns Mountain is located east-northeast, and Mount Tobias is located north-northwest of Roundtop Mountain.

The Emile Brunel Sculpture Garden and Studio, also known as the Totem Indian Trading Post, Le Chalet Indien, and Brunel Park, is located on Da Silva Road, just off the NY 28 state highway, in Boiceville, Town of Olive, New York, United States. It consists of seven sculptures and three buildings. Brunel was a French immigrant and artist who had become fascinated by the Native American tribes of the West during his travels there in the early 20th century. After a successful career as a photographer he bought a tract of land in the Catskills and built a studio residence and a resort on it, decorated with sculptures inspired by the Native American art he had seen. The resort closed and the statues were relocated soon thereafter when Route 28 was widened through it at the end of World War II, but the sculpture garden remained a popular roadside attraction afterwards. In 1929 Brunel began construction of a studio residence on the site in the "neo-rustic" or French Arts and Craft style. His wife and daughter (both named Gladyse) kept the sculpture garden maintained after his death in 1944, operating a nearby souvenir shop until 1985. The artist's home and studio remain intact, and were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Boiceville is a hamlet in the town of Olive, Ulster County, New York, United States. Located at the intersection of New York State Route 28 and New York State Route 28A, Boiceville is within Catskill State Park. Boiceville was named for Lemuel Boice (born in Shokan in 1819, died in Boiceville, 1899), who established a tannery in the town. Members of the Boice family owned tanneries, bluestone quarries, stores, farms, lumber businesses and mills in Olive for many years. Boiceville was relocated due to the construction of the Ashokan Reservoir. The current commercial center of the town is subject to severe flooding during exceptionally powerful storms. Some businesses have accepted buyouts from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. The future of others is in doubt.The Emile Brunel Studio and Sculpture Garden was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Onteora High School, located in Boiceville, New York, is part of the Onteora Central School District. The High School shares its building with the Onteora Middle School. However, the two schools remain administratively separate. The school serves the towns of Woodstock, West Hurley, Olive, and Shandaken, each comprising several small hamlets including Glenford, Ashokan, Beechford, Brodhead, Brown's Station, Cold Brook, Davis Corners, Krumville, Olivebridge, Samsonville, Shokan, Winchell, West Shokan, Bearsville, Byrdcliffe, Montoma, Daisy, Shady, Willow, Wittenberg, parts of Zena, Phoenicia, Pine Hill, Ohayo, Oliverea, Mt. Tremper, Mt. Pleasant, Woodland Valley, Highmount, Allaben, Chichester, Bushnellsville, Big Indian, and Yankeetown. Despite its size, the number of students in attendance remains small and is steadily declining. In 2011, 85.2% of students graduated within 4 years, up from 81% in 2010.Previously the school mascot had been the Indians, which had been a point of contention for many years within the community and there has been multiple attempts to have the name changed. The first one, in May 2001, resulted in very close vote in favor of retaining the name 1,940 to 1,868. A new initiative was started in 2016 by a new generation of students who believed that the use of a racial group as a mascot was insensitive. This eventually let to the school board of trustees voting 5-2 in favor of changing the mascot to the Eagles.

Acorn Hill is a mountain located in the Catskill Mountains of New York northeast of Wittenberg. Snake Rocks is located southeast, and Johns Mountain is located north-northeast of Acorn Hill.
