The Battle of Jackson, also known as the Battle of Salem Cemetery, was fought on December 19, 1862, in Madison County, Tennessee, during the American Civil War.

The Deberry-Hurt House is a historic house in Madison County, Tennessee, U.S.. It was built for Mathias Deberry in 1823. It was expanded by his son-in-law, Robert B. Hurt, in 1855. By 1922, it belonged to Hurt's granddaughter, Elizabeth Hurt Leeper.The house was designed in the Federal architectural style. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since July 8, 1980.

Lake Graham (also Graham Lake) is a reservoir in Madison County, Tennessee 5 miles (8.0 km) west of the city of Jackson. It is primarily a recreational lake that also provides wetlands habitat to local wildlife and migratory birds. The lake is owned and managed by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). The TWRA Region One offices are located at the lake, and it is the largest lake managed by the Agency. The lake is impounded by a 51 foot (16 m) high earthen dam with an uncontrolled spillway.

Jackson State Community College is a public community college in Jackson, Tennessee. It is governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents and offers associate degrees in arts, science, and applied science programs. It has the largest enrollment of any college in Jackson. Jackson State has branch campuses in Lexington, Tennessee, Savannah, Tennessee, and Trenton, Tennessee. It is also home to four sports teams: Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Baseball, and Softball.

West Tennessee School For the Deaf (WTSD) is a public state-operated elementary school serving deaf students ages two through thirteen. It is an agency of the Division of Special Schools of the Tennessee State Department of Education. It is located in Jackson, Tennessee. As of 2005 the school has about 60 students, who originate from West Tennessee.

Liberty Technology Magnet High School is a public magnet high school located in Jackson, Tennessee. It opened to students in August 2003. It is a part of the Jackson-Madison County School System.

The Ballpark at Jackson is a 6,000-seat minor league baseball stadium in Jackson, Tennessee, United States. It opened in 1998. The Ballpark at Jackson was built by the municipal government of Jackson, Tennessee, and was the home of the Jackson Generals, formerly of the Southern League from 1998 to 2020. The stadium is northeast of downtown Jackson and is visible from Interstate 40. It also hosts other events, including Pro Wrestling for the USA Championship Wrestling company.

Rothrock Stadium is a stadium in Jackson, Tennessee. It is primarily used for American football, and is the home field of Lane College. Built in the 1930s, it originally served as the home field of the Union University Bulldogs, until Union ended its football program in the early 1950s. Rothrock has also served as the home field for Jackson High School (later Jackson Central-Merry High School). The location is also referred to as Lane Field.

Jackson Central-Merry Middle and High School also known as (JCMMS, JCMHS, JCM 6-12 or JCM) is both a middle school and high school located in Jackson, Tennessee, United States. The school was active as a high school from 1970 to 2016, during which time it was once the largest in West Tennessee outside Memphis. The school was renovated and reopened as a middle and high school on September 20, 2021.

Madison Academic Magnet High School is a public high school in the Jackson Madison County School System located on Lambuth Boulevard and formerly located on Allen Avenue, in Jackson, Tennessee. The former building was erected in 1928 as Jackson High School and underwent extensive renovations during the summer of 2003. The school was started in the autumn of 2003, replacing the former west campus of Jackson Central-Merry High School. The new building was constructed in late 2020 and opened in January 2022. The school has a graduating class of fewer than 125 students and does not offer special education classes. It is ranked #15 in Best High Schools in Tennessee according to U.S. News & World Report.The principal of Madison Academic is Chad Guthrie. The school's course offerings are honors and college-prep courses. Although students do apply for admission, no academic criteria influences selection, as selection is through a lottery system. Once enrolled, students must maintain a C average to remain at the school.

Jackson is a city in and the county seat of Madison County, Tennessee, United States. Located 70 miles (110 km) east of Memphis, it is a regional center of trade for West Tennessee. Its total population was 68,205 as of the 2020 United States census. Jackson is the primary city of the Jackson, Tennessee metropolitan area, which is included in the Jackson-Humboldt, Tennessee combined statistical area. Jackson is Madison County's largest city, and the second-largest city in West Tennessee after Memphis. It is home to the Tennessee Supreme Court's courthouse for West Tennessee, as Jackson was the major city in the west when the court was established in 1834. In the antebellum era, Jackson was the market city for an agricultural area based on cultivation of cotton, the major commodity crop. Beginning in 1851, the city became a hub of railroad systems ultimately connecting to major markets in the north and south, as well as east and west. This was key to its development, attracting trade and many workers on the railroads in the late 19th century with the construction of railroads after the American Civil War. Through the 1960s, the city was served by 15 passenger trains daily, but industry restructuring reduced such service and caused the loss of jobs. The economy has adjusted to new businesses, with major manufacturing in the area.
