River Lydden

Pleck is a small hamlet to the south of Marnhull, one of the largest villages in England. It lies close to the River Stour in Dorset. It consists of nine houses. The name ‘Pleck’ is thought to stem from the Saxon word meaning an ‘exposed place’, which is fitting for the hamlet that sits on a hill overlooking the Vale of the Three Dairies. Pleck is a fairly common name in this part of Dorset, one at DT9 and this one.

The River Divelish is a Dorset watercourse of that rises on the north slope of Bulbarrow Hill, near to the source of the Devil's Brook. It is a tributary of the River Stour, which it joins upstream of Sturminster Newton. The Stour, in turn, discharges into the English Channel. Its length is 6 miles (9.7 km).

Marnhull ( MAR-nəl) is a village and civil parish in the county of Dorset in southern England. It lies in the Blackmore Vale, three miles (five kilometres) north of Sturminster Newton. The resort towns of Bournemouth and Weymouth are approximately 30 miles (50 kilometres) south. Marnhull is sited on a low ridge of Corallian limestone above the valley of the River Stour, which forms the northern and western boundaries of the parish. In the 2011 census the parish had 962 dwellings, 905 households and a population of 1,998.

Hinton St Mary is a village and civil parish in Dorset, southern England. It is sited on a low Corallian limestone ridge beside the River Stour, one mile (1.5 kilometres) north of the market town Sturminster Newton. In 2001 the parish had 97 households and a population of 221. In 2013 the estimated population of the parish was 260. In 2021 the estimated population of the parish has decreased to 225. The village includes a parish church, a traditional pub, a manor house, a village hall and a water mill. The church, dedicated to St Peter, has a 15th-century tower. The manor house was once owned by the nuns of Shaftesbury Abbey, and its grounds includes a noted avenue of beech trees. The village has a community garden, the Millennium Garden, which was constructed in 1999 as an episode of the BBC series Charlies Garden Angels, with local people and businesses helping to create it. Cutt Mill, a water mill on the River Stour to the northwest of the village, was burned down in 2003 by vandals. The building remains unused as the structure is now unsafe.

Sturminster Newton High School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Sturminster Newton in the English county of Dorset.

Bagber is a hamlet in the county of Dorset in southern England, situated about 2 miles (3.2 km) west and northwest of Sturminster Newton in the Dorset unitary authority. It consists of Bagber, Lower Bagber and Bagber Common, which all lie within Sturminster Newton civil parish. Chapel Row consists of around 10 houses in total, 6 of them being within 300 metres of the main A357. These six date back to the 19th century with the chapel now being now no. 6. The poet William Barnes was born in Bagber in 1801.

Caundle Brook is a 13.4 miles (21.6 km) tributary of the River Lydden that flows through Blackmore Vale in Dorset, England.Its headwaters rise at the foot of Dogbury Hill near Cosmore. The brook then flows in a northerly direction past the villages of Middlemarsh and Tiley until it collects The Cam and a second tributary that drains Caundle Marsh. Here it turns east, and is then crossed by Cornford Bridge and then the A3030 near Bishop's Caundle. It continues past Rowden Mill south of Stourton Caundle before being crossed by the A357 at Warr Bridge, beyond which it joins the Lydden near Lydlinch.

Sturminster Newton United Football Club is a football club based in Sturminster Newton, Dorset, England, currently playing in the Dorset Premier League. The club is affiliated to the Dorset County Football Association and is a FA Charter Standard Community Club. Currently have 9 youth teams ranging from under 8s to under 16s,playing in the Dorset mini soccer league and Dorset youth league.

Royal Naval Air Station Henstridge (RNAS Henstridge; or HMS Dipper) is a former Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm airbase, located 7 miles (11 km) west of Shaftesbury, in Dorset and 12.4 miles (20 km) east of Yeovil, in Somerset, in South West England. It is home to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

Sturminster Newton is a town and civil parish in the Blackmore Vale area of Dorset, England. It is situated on a low limestone ridge in a meander of the River Stour. The town is at the centre of a large dairy agriculture region, around which the town's economy is built. The larger part of the town (Sturminster) lies on the north side of the river, and includes most shops and services, whilst to the south is the smaller Newton. Between these two areas is a wide flood plain. The town was the home of poet and author William Barnes, and, for part of his life, Thomas Hardy. The town has shops, a primary and secondary school, and a school and college catering for children with Special educational needs. In the 2011 census the town's civil parish had a population of 5,234. A market is held in the town on Mondays. One of the largest cattle markets in England used to be held here, but it was closed in 1998 and now in its place stands a housing estate and a 300-seat community arts centre called The Exchange. The town is part of the historic West Country Carnival circuit. The town also has the nickname of 'the heart of the Blackmore vale' due to its central location within that area.

Sturminster Newton railway station was a station in the town of Sturminster Newton, in the English county of Dorset. It was located on the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway.

Stalbridge railway station was a station in Stalbridge in the county of Dorset, England. It was located on the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. Sited on a single line stretch, the station had a passing loop with a station building on the down side. The goods yard and adjacent level crossing were controlled from a signal box.
