Patroklos (Greek: Πάτροκλος) or Gaidouronisi (Γαϊδουρονήσι, "donkey island") is a small, private island located in the Saronic Gulf, Greece. It is situated about 65 km from Athens and 3 km from Sounion and is part of the Attica region. In ancient times, the island was known as Patroklou Charax (Πατρόκλου χάραξ, meaning "Camp of Patroclus") or Patroklou Nesos (Πατρόκλου νῆσος, meaning "Island of Patroclus"), after the Ptolemaic admiral Patroclus, who established a fortified base there during the Chremonidean War. In the late Middle Ages, the island was notorious as a haven for pirates. The Byzantine emperor John VIII Palaiologos was nearly captured by Catalan pirates in December 1437, when his ship sought shelter from a storm on the island during his journey to the Council of Ferrara. On 12 February 1944, SS Oria sank in a storm on the south east rocks of Patroklos island with 4,074 killed, mostly Italian military internees. It was also the island at the heart of the Israeli political scandal known as the "Greek island affair". The island is operated under Greek administration but is owned by the Prince Obolensky, Arnaud Henry Salas-Perez.

SS Oria was a Norwegian steamer that sank on 12 February 1944, causing the death of some 4,095 Italian prisoners of war, 21 Greeks and 15 Germans. It was one of the worst maritime disasters in history, and the worst maritime disaster caused by the sinking of a single ship in the Mediterranean Sea.

Palaia Fokaia (Greek: Παλαιά Φώκαια, meaning Old Phocaea and pronounced Palea Fokea) is a former community and a seaside town in East Attica, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Saronikos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 22.944 km2. Its population was 3,025 at the 2021 census. Currently, Palaia Fokaia includes the settlements of: Thymari - Agia Fotini, Katafygi and the settlement of the Agricultural Bank of Greece.

Legrena (Greek: Λεγρενά) is a coastal village in East Attica in southern Greece on the coast of the Attica peninsula. It is part of the municipality Lavreotiki. It lies along Greek National Road 91, to the west of Sounion. It contains an extensive beach and bay of the same name. The European Public Law Center is located in the vicinity.

Anaphlystus or Anaphlystos (Ancient Greek: Ἀνάφλυστος) was a coastal (paralia) deme of ancient Athens, belonging to the Antiochis phyle, on the west coast of Attica, opposite the island of Eleussa, and a little north of the promontory of Sunium, between that promontory and that of Astypalaea. It bordered on Aegilia to the west, to Atene in the south-east and to Amphitrope to the east. To the northwest, it was separated from Phrearrhioi by the Astike Hodos. It was a place of some importance. It had ten representatives in the Boule. Xenophon recommended the erection of a fortress here for the protection of the mines of Sunium. Strabo speaks of a paneium (Πανεῖον), or Grotto of Pan, in the neighbourhood of Anaphlystus. It was situated at a site called Agios Georgios (St. George), close to the modern settlement of Anavyssos, on the Athens Riviera.

Anavyssos (Greek: Ανάβυσσος) is a town and a former municipality in East Attica, Greece located in the Athens Riviera. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Saronikos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 14.478 km2. At the 2021 census it had 6,180 inhabitants. It is situated near the Saronic Gulf coast, at the foot of Olympos hill (487 m). It is 2 km north of Palaia Fokaia, 4 km east of Saronida, 10 km west of Lavrio and 34 km southeast of Athens city centre. The Greek National Road 91 (Athens - Sounion) passes south of the town, along the coast. Anavyssos is located in the area of ancient Attica's demos of Anaflystos (Ανάφλυστος), which has shown significant archaeological findings like Kroisos Kouros that is exhibited in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. The contemporary settlement was originally a village founded by Greek refugees who resettled there after fleeing from various areas of Asia Minor after the Asia Minor Campaign. Anavyssos is the place where Elias Venezis, one of the most important Greek novelists of the 20th century located his 1939 novel 'Tranquility' (Γαλήνη). Today Anavyssos is a major coastal resort of Attica famous for water-sports, the town sees its population tripled during the summer months. In addition to the main part of the town, Anavyssos includes a number of satellite settlements such as Ag. Nikolaos, Mavro Lithari, Paralia Anavyssou, Lakka, Alykes etc.

Besa (Ancient Greek: Βῆσα) was a deme of ancient Athens, situated in the mining district, midway between Anaphlystus and Thoricus, and 300 stadia from Athens main city. Xenophon recommended the erection of a fortress at Besa, which would thus connect the two fortresses situated respectively at Anaphlystus and Thoricus. The site of Besa is located near the modern Synterina.

Amphitrope (Greek: Ἀμφιτρόπη) was a minor coastal (paralia) deme of ancient Attica, belonging to the Antiochis tribe (phyle), with two representatives in the Boule. It was situated in the valley of Legrena, between mount Baphi to the west and mount Spitharopussi to the east, close to the modern settlement of Synterina (Συντερίνα, 37.73°N 23.99°E / 37.73; 23.99), neighboring the demes of Atene to the west, Sounion to the east and Thorikos to the north-east, on the border between the modern Saronikos and Lavreotiki municipalities. It was one of the smaller demes of the Mines of Laurion district, with eight or nine mines. According to Aeschines (Against Timarchus 101), the father of Timarchus had possessions in Amphitrope which he was forced to sell to pay to cover the expenses of the liturgy. The site of Amphitrope is tentatively located at Pousipelia Megalo Peuka.

Agios Konstantinos (Greek: Άγιος Κωνσταντίνος meaning Saint Constantine, before 1954: Καμάριζα - Kamariza) is a village and a former community in East Attica, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it has been part of the municipality Lavreotiki, which is a municipal unit. It was named after Saint Constantine.

The Temple of Poseidon is an ancient Greek temple on Cape Sounion, Greece, dedicated to the god Poseidon. There is evidence of the establishment of sanctuaries on the cape from as early as the 11th century BC. Sounion's most prominent temples, the Temple of Athena and the Temple of Poseidon, are however not believed to have been built until about 700 BC, and their kouroi (freestanding Greek statues of young men) date from about one hundred years later. The material and size of the offerings at the Temple of Poseidon indicate that it was likely frequented by members of the elite and the aristocratic class. The Greeks considered Poseidon to be the "master of the sea". Given the importance to Athens of trade by sea and the significance of its navy in its creation and survival during the fifth century, Poseidon was of a particular relevance and value to the Athenians.

Cape Sounion (Modern Greek: Aκρωτήριο Σούνιο Akrotírio Soúnio [akroˈtirʝo ˈsuɲo]; Ancient Greek: Ἄκρον Σούνιον Άkron Soúnion, latinized Sunium; Venetian: Capo Colonne "Cape of Columns") is the promontory at the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula, 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) south of the town of Lavrio (ancient Thoricus), and 69.5 km (43.1 miles) southeast of Athens in the Athens Riviera. It is part of Lavreotiki municipality, East Attica, Greece. Cape Sounion is noted for its Temple of Poseidon, one of the major monuments of the Golden Age of Athens. Its remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the Aegean sea.

Laureotic Olympus (named for the region of Laurium, also Όλυμπος Αττικής "Attic Olympus", Σκόρδι) is a hill in Attica, just north of Anavyssos, in Saronikos municipality, East Attica, Greece. At a height of 487 m is one of the three major elevations of southern Attica, alongside mounts Panio and Merenda (Myrrhinous). Attic Olympus is the place of origin of the white marble used in the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion. It is also notable as the site of an early Christian basilica, known as the Basilica of Laureotic Olympos, established before AD 559, a three-aisled church with double narthex and baptistery, decorated with sculpted marble and a mosaic floor.
