Derby High School is a public secondary education school for grades 9–12, it is located at 75 Chatfield Street in Derby. It is the only public secondary education school in Derby and is one of five public schools in the city. The current school building was built in 1967, and up until 2010 housed Derby Middle and High Schools together. In 2010, Derby Middle School was completed across the street from the high school.

Harcourt Wood Memorial Library (also known as the Derby Public Library) is a historic public library at 313 Elizabeth Street in Derby, Connecticut. Built in 1902, it is a fine local example of Colonial Revival architecture, funded by the local streetcar railway owner. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Derby is a city in New Haven County, Connecticut, United States, approximately 8 miles west-northwest of New Haven. It is located in southwest Connecticut at the confluence of the Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers. It borders the cities of Ansonia to the north and Shelton to the southwest, and the towns of Orange to the south, Seymour to the northwest, and Woodbridge to the east. The population was 12,325 at the 2020 census. It is the smallest city in Connecticut by area, at 5.3 square miles.Derby was settled in 1642 as an Indian trading post under the name Paugasset. It was named after Derby, England, in 1675. It included what are now Ansonia, Seymour, Oxford, and parts of Beacon Falls. Derby is home to the first electric trolley system in New England, only the second in the United States. It is also home to the first electric locomotive in U.S. history to be built and successfully used commercially for hauling freight. The locomotive, built in 1888, is still kept in running condition by the Shore Line Trolley Museum.

Ansonia station is a commuter rail station on the Waterbury Branch of the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line, located in Ansonia, Connecticut.

The U.S. Post Office-Ansonia Main, also known as the Ansonia Main Post Office, is located at 237 Main Street in Ansonia, Connecticut. Designed by Oscar Wenderoth and completed in 1914, it is one of the more architecturally sophisticated buildings in Ansonia's central business district. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The John I. Howe House is a historic house at 213 Caroline Street in Derby, Connecticut. Built in 1845, it is a distinctive example of Greek Revival architecture executed in granite, built for John Ireland Howe of the Howe Pin Company. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Upper Main Street Historic District encompasses a collection of mainly late-19th-century commercial buildings on Main Street in downtown Ansonia, Connecticut. Extending south from Maple Street, the district exemplifies the rapid commercial growth of the city at that time. Its most prominent feature is the Ansonia Opera House, built 1870. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Birmingham Green Historic District is located in central Derby, Connecticut just north of the central business district. Also known as the Derby Green Historic District, the district consists of the Green and the buildings surrounding it on the east, north, and west sides. A total of 10 buildings, 3 of which are churches, and 4 monuments encompass the district. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000 as a good example of privately organized 19th century urban planning.

Osbornedale State Park is a public recreation area occupying 417 acres (169 ha) on the east bank of the Housatonic River primarily in the town of Derby, Connecticut, with a small portion in Ansonia. The state park includes the historic Osborne Homestead, the Kellogg Environmental Center, and an extensive system of hiking trails. The park is managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The Sterling Opera House is located in Derby, Connecticut, at 112 Elizabeth Street, across from the Derby Green. The building is located within the Birmingham Green Historic District which comprises a total of 10 buildings, 3 of which are churches, and 4 monuments. The building was constructed in 1889 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 8, 1968, making it the first building in Connecticut to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Sterling Opera House served multiple municipal purposes as a city hall and police station as well as an opera house when it opened on April 2, 1889. It is named for Charles A. Sterling, founder the former Derby-based Sterling Piano Company Following the closing of the public entertainment portion of the building in 1945 the city continued to use the building as a city hall and police station until 1965.

The General David Humphreys House is a historic house museum at 37 Elm Street in Ansonia, Connecticut. Built in the 1690s, it was the birthplace of the American Revolutionary War Colonel David Humphreys. It is now owned by the Derby Historical Society, and serves as its headquarters. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

The Ansonia Library is the public library serving Ansonia, Connecticut. It is located at 53 South Cliff, in an architecturally distinguished Richardsonian Romanesque building designed by Connecticut architect George Keller and completed in 1892 as a gift from Caroline Phelps Stokes. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 23, 1985.
