Bear Creek Camp Conservation Area

The Bear Creek Wind Power Project is a wind farm located in Bear Creek Township near Wilkes-Barre in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, USA, with twelve Gamesa 2.0 MW wind turbines that began commercial operation in March 2006. The wind farm has a combined total nameplate capacity of 24 MW, producing about 61.4 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually. Bear Creek usually operates at roughly a 30% capacity factor until the winter months when winds are stronger and it runs near 70 percent capacity.The wind energy facility is located in the Poconos region of Northeastern Pennsylvania, less than 10 miles southeast of Wilkes-Barre near the village of Bear Creek. Construction of the wind farm was made possible by commitments from PPL Energy Plus to purchase the output of the project and leading wind energy customers such as the University of Pennsylvania and PEPCO Energy Services.The wind farm is visible while heading south on the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension.

On May 21, 2000, a British Aerospace BAe-3101 Jetstream 3101 operated by East Coast Aviation Services (known operationally as Executive Airlines) crashed into mountainous terrain in Bear Creek Township, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The plane was carrying 17 professional gamblers returning home from Caesar's Palace Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, along with 2 crew members. It was chartered by Caesar's Palace (New Jersey). All 19 passengers and crews on board were killed on impact. This accident, alongside the accident of Aerocaribe Flight 7831 were the accidents with the most fatalities involving the Jetstream 3101 airliner. An investigation was conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board. It found that while the aircraft was approaching Scranton International Airport, it ran out of fuel. The investigation found that the crews were supposed to refill the aircraft with a total of 180 gallons of fuel. Instead, they refilled with 90 gallons. Although the final report concluded that fuel exhaustion was the cause of the crash, it was not received warmly by some relatives of the victims. Several of them filled lawsuits against Executive Airlines and British Aerospace. Executive Airlines chief executive Michael Peragine questioned the NTSB report, claiming that it dismissed several other factors that might have been beneficial to the investigation.

Seven Tubs Recreation Area is a publicly accessible recreation area located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, and owned by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Continuously flowing glacial meltwater gouged a line of smooth tubs in gritty sandstone over 12,000 years ago. The tubs are potholes formed by the flowing water. The site is part of a 537-acre (2.17 km2) recreation area in the Pennsylvania mountains about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of downtown Wilkes-Barre. The site is popular among hikers for its easy accessibility and beginner-level hiking environment.
