The Great River Shakespeare Festival (GRSF) is a professional equity theatre company in Winona, Minnesota, a Mississippi River town in the southeastern part of the state. Starting in 2004, it has produced several simultaneous performances each summer, held at the Winona State University DuFresne Performing Arts Center, with annual audiences of over 10,000. Its 2023 season runs from June 20 to July 30. The festival features many art, music, and other events, such as an annual sonnet contest with entries from around the world. Additionally, Company Conversations, a weekly open-to-the-public talkback with company members, are hosted Sundays at Blooming Grounds Coffee House in downtown Winona. GRSF also offers educational opportunities, especially for youth, including an apprentice/intern production. Youth classes are offered for grades 7-12, titled Shakespeare for Young Actors (SYA), Shakespeare for Young Designers (SYD), and Shakespeare for Young Filmmakers (SYF). SYA began in 2010. Near the end of every season, GRSF company members produce a one-night performance known as Callithump, "a ridiculously fun, boisterous and wildly entertaining" fundraiser and variety show. Typical acts include singing, skits, an auction, and more. Company members who participate in this show are colloquially known as "Thumpians". Before the show, pre-Callithump is held outside the Performing Arts Center; this often includes a dunk tank and other carnival-esque attractions.

The Latsch Building is a historic commercial property in Winona, Minnesota, United States. Once known as the Kupietz Block, it was constructed in stages from 1860 to the 1880s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 (under the misspelled name Kirch/Latch Building) for having local significance in the themes of architecture and commerce. It was nominated for its transitional Gothic Revival/Italianate architecture and its former occupation by the largest of several produce wholesalers that based themselves in Winona to take advantage of the city's river and rail connections.

Merchants National Bank is a bank building in Winona, Minnesota, United States, designed in the Prairie School architectural style. It was built in 1912 and features elaborate terracotta and stained-glass ornamentation. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 for having state-level significance in the themes of architecture and commerce. It was nominated for being the "largest and probably best example" of the 18 Midwestern banks designed by Purcell, Feick & Elmslie, a significant influence on early-20th-century American architecture. It is also a contributing property to the Winona Commercial Historic District.

The Winona Commercial Historic District comprises six downtown blocks along 3rd Street in Winona, Minnesota, United States. It comprises 65 contributing properties mostly built in the 1880s and 1890s. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998 for having local significance in the theme of commerce. It was nominated for reflecting the prosperity of a river and rail town that grew into southeast Minnesota's leading commercial center of the late 19th century.

The East Second Street Commercial Historic District is a small historic district in Winona, Minnesota, United States. It comprises 14 contributing properties mostly built in the late 1860s. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 for its state-level significance in the themes of architecture and commerce. It was nominated for being one of the few surviving remnants of the original business district of a Minnesota river town, and for being a symbol of Winona's swift growth as a lumber and grain trade center.

The Winona and St. Peter Railroad Freight House is a former freight house in Winona, Minnesota, United States. Built from 1882 to 1883, it is the city's last surviving freight facility of the Winona and St. Peter Railroad. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 for having local significance in the theme of transportation. It was nominated as a symbol of the Winona and St. Peter Railroad, which was instrumental in spurring Winona's industry and growth by developing markets along its rail lines across Minnesota and into Dakota Territory. Through mergers and acquisitions, the building continued to serve as a railroad office and freight house until 1961. As of 2017 the west end of the building houses the Jefferson Pub & Grill, which keeps vintage railroad photographs and memorabilia on display.

Winona City Hall is the seat of municipal government for Winona, Minnesota, United States. It was built with federal funding from the Public Works Administration in 1939.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999 for having local significance in the themes of architecture and politics/government. It was nominated as a local example of the massive federal relief efforts of the New Deal and for its exceptional Classical Moderne architecture.The building was designed by the local firm of Boyum, Schubert and Sorensen in 1938. It is partially faced in local travertine stone. Winona City Hall originally included a police station with police garage and jail cells, which were removed when the interior of the building was remodeled in the early 1980s.

The Choate Department Store is a historic commercial building in Winona, Minnesota, United States. It was built in 1881 for Hannibal Choate (1835–1923), an early Winona-based merchant who achieved such regional prominence that he became known as the "merchant prince of southeastern Minnesota". The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 for its local significance in the theme of commerce. It was nominated for its associations with Choate, who pioneered fixed price retail and in-store merchandise displays in the region, and boosted his bottom line by wholesaling to other merchants.In 1998 the store was also included as a contributing property of the Winona Commercial Historic District.

The Grain and Lumber Exchange Building is a historic office building in Winona, Minnesota, United States. It was designed in Renaissance Revival style by the architectural firm of Kees & Colburn and built in 1900. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 for its local significance in the theme of architecture. It was nominated for being among Winona's most architecturally distinctive office buildings from the turn of the 20th century. It is also notable for being designed to the specifications of its first tenants even though they were primarily renters rather than owners.

Central Grade School is an elementary school in Winona, Minnesota, United States. Its building was constructed in 1930, the first of five new facilities built by Winona Public Schools in the early 20th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012 for its local significance in the theme of education. It was nominated for representing the efforts of Winona Public Schools to implement progressive educational reforms such as separated grades, kindergartens, gymnasiums, art and music classrooms, and improved hygiene and fire safety features.

The Winona Savings Bank Building, now the Winona National Bank Historic Downtown Building, is an Egyptian Revival bank building in Winona, Minnesota, United States. It was designed by Chicago-based architect George W. Maher and constructed from 1914 to 1916. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 for having state-level significance in the themes of architecture and commerce. It was nominated for being the largest and best preserved of Minnesota's few early-20th-century Egyptian Revival buildings, and one of Maher's master works in the state.The bank contains on the third floor of it a taxidermy gallery of African wildlife and guns by bank president EL King.

Hope Lutheran High School is a private Lutheran high school located in Winona, Minnesota. It was started by a small board in the summer of 2003. The school's mascot is the patriot. The school opened its doors for the fall of 2003–2004 with a class of seven. Now, the school will graduate its first senior class in 2007. The school has grown to over 40 students and plans to expand into a larger building in the near future.
