Davidson College

Davidson College Arboretum is located on Davidson College's 600-acre campus in Davidson, North Carolina. The campus was designated a national arboretum in 1986, but the origins of the arboretum stretch to 1855, when “a few ladies of Davidson College” proposed landscape remodeling to the board of trustees. Students organized tree plantings in 1861; then in 1869, the faculty sent a proposal to the Board of Trustees recommending that the campus "represent in time the forest growth of the State, and if possible, the general botany of the region." Over the next century, grounds supervisors and landscape architects populated the college's campus with exotic and indigenous flora of North Carolina's Piedmont region. In 1982, President Emeritus Samuel R. Spencer Jr. received a letter from the director of the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C., Henry Cathey, urging him to use the grounds as a working arboretum. The letter was accompanied by a check from the estate of Edwin Latimer Douglass, one of whose life interests had been forestry. The college applied funding from the Douglass estate to take aerial photos and draw up topographical maps. In 1986, the college became a full-fledged arboretum. Since then, students and college staff have contributed to the continuing project of labeling and caring for the trees on campus. Some 3,000 woody trees and shrubs have been labeled. The arboretum is open to the public.

Philanthropic Hall, Davidson College is a historic school building located on the campus of Davidson College at Davidson, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built in 1849–1850, and is a two-story, temple-form brick structure three bays wide and three bays long in the Greek Revival style. The front facade features a prostyle tetrastyle Doric order pedimented portico supported by four massive stuccoed brick columns. The building faces Eumenean Hall across the original quadrangle of Davidson College. It was converted to office use in 1956.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Davidson is a suburban town located in Iredell and Mecklenburg counties, North Carolina, United States, on the banks of Lake Norman. It is a suburb in the Charlotte metropolitan area. The population was 10,944 at the 2010 census, and in 2019 the estimated population was 13,054. The town was founded in 1837 with the establishment of the Presbyterian Davidson College, named for Brigadier General William Lee Davidson, a local Revolutionary War hero. The land for Davidson College came from Davidson's estate, a large portion of which was donated by his son.

Richardson Stadium is a stadium in Davidson, North Carolina. It is home to the Davidson Wildcats football, lacrosse, and track and field teams. The stadium incorporates both Stephen B. Smith Field and Irwin Belk Track. Richardson Stadium has a capacity for 6,000 people.

Chairman Blake House is a historic private home located at Davidson, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built about 1860, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, five-bay, double pile Greek Revival style frame dwelling with a one-story rear ell. It has steep side gable roof, four brick interior chimneys, and weatherboard sheathing. It features porches on the front and rear facades supported by Tuscan order columns. It was moved to its present location in October 2000. It was the home of Professor John Rennie Blake (1825–1900), who is believed to have occupied the house throughout his tenure at Davidson College, 1861–1885. Today, the home is privately owned.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

John M. Belk Arena is a 5,295-seat multi-purpose arena, located on the campus of Davidson College, in Davidson, North Carolina, United States. It is named for Davidson alumnus and benefactor John M. Belk (1920–2007), class of 1943. As the centerpiece of the Baker Sports Complex, it is home to the Davidson Wildcats men's and women's basketball teams, the Davidson Wildcats wrestling team, and the women's volleyball team. The playing surface is named McKillop Court in honor of former men's basketball coach Bob McKillop, who has coached the most victories in the school's history.Bob Dylan performed at the arena during his 2006 North American Tour on May 2, 2006.

T. Henry Wilson Jr. Field is a baseball venue located in Davidson, North Carolina, United States. It is home to the Davidson Wildcats baseball team, a member of the Division I Atlantic-10 Conference. It has a capacity of 700 spectators.The field opened in 1967 as Wildcat Park, with the first game being held on March 19, 1967. On March 19, 2005, the venue was renamed after T. Henry Wilson Jr., class of 1951. Wilson played both baseball and football at Davidson, and a donation by his family made significant renovations to the field possible.In 2003, lights were installed at the facility, allowing the first night games to be played at then-Wildcat Park. In 2005, after a donation from the Wilson family, new bleachers, infield, concession stands, and a press box were added. In 2009, an indoor practice facility outside the field was completed.

Davidson Historic District is a national historic district located at Davidson, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 394 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, and 2 contributing structures in the central business district and surrounding residential neighborhoods of Davidson and campus of Davidson College. It was developed after 1837 and includes notable examples of Italianate, Greek Revival, and Gothic Revival style architecture. Located in the district are the separately listed Eumenean Hall and Philanthropic Hall. Other notable buildings include the Maxwell Chambers Building, Jackson Row (1928), Helper Hotel (1848), Johnston Grocery Store (1912), Southern Railway Depot (1897), Linden Cotton Factory (1890), Delburg Cotton Mills (1908), Davidson United Methodist Church (1908), Davidson College Presbyterian Church (1951), and Carnegie Library (1909).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Community School of Davidson (CSD) is a public charter school located in Davidson, North Carolina. Their mascot is the Spartans. The school was founded by Joy Warner, the current Executive Director, and opened in 2001 as Children's Community School and adopted its current name in 2009. The school's founding principles center around The Basic School, and research done by Dr. Ernest Boyer. The school operates an elementary school, middle school, and high school on two separate campuses. Grades kindergarten through 7th "loop" with their teachers for 2 years. With both campuses combined, the student body is approximately 1,300 pupils, with about 100 per grade level. Each year, the random lottery that selects new families to attend CSD leaves over 3,000 students on the wait list for entry. When CSD originally started under the name Children's Community School in 2001, it was a secular private school out of Lake Norman Baptist Church in Huntersville, North Carolina. The school originally had only one kindergarten class, but it expanded by one grade over its first three years. In its fourth year, it became a charter school. With the school now having around 60 students, the directors decided that a new building was needed to accommodate the larger number of students, so they purchased the former Elox manufacturing facility in Davidson, NC. That building now houses the kindergarten through 7th grades, while the 8th through 12th grades reside about 1 mile up the road in a newer space. In the high school building, the 8th grade resides in a separate wing from the high school grades. CSD is known for its inclusion exceptional children's program, integration of the arts and its commitment to service. Students are engaged in service beginning in kindergarten and expand their service with a service-learning program called Practicum in 8th grade where there are 6–8 students in each group. They continue in high school by participating in service Fridays through the advisory program made up of small groups of 12–14 students per teacher. The arts program at CSD is an integral part of the curriculum. Students are exposed to a variety of arts classes, and many high school students choose a concentration for their 4 years. The theater program is notable for always having a show in rehearsal, performing 4 times yearly even through the summer months. The sports program and boosters are currently raising funds to build a Sports Complex for outdoor sports teams. The high school teams have won multiple state championships including 2 in women's soccer, 4 in women's volleyball, and women's cross country. The school also has multiple state Wells Fargo Cup wins noting a culmination of points among all school sports.

Woodlawn School is a private independent school in Mooresville, North Carolina in Iredell County, north of Davidson, North Carolina. Founded in 2002, it has 227 students in grades Pre-K through 12. The Head of School is Holly Honeycutt, who joined Woodlawn's staff in 2015. Woodlawn was accredited in 2009 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Southern Association of Independent Schools and was re-accredited in 2014.
