Southern Ontario

The Province of Upper Canada (French: province du Haut-Canada) was a part of British Canada established in 1791 by the Kingdom of Great Britain, to govern the central third of the lands in British North America, formerly part of the Province of Quebec since 1763. Upper Canada included all of modern-day Southern Ontario and all those areas of Northern Ontario in the Pays d'en Haut which had formed part of New France, essentially the watersheds of the Ottawa River or Lakes Huron and Superior, excluding any lands within the watershed of Hudson Bay. The "upper" prefix in the name reflects its geographic position along the Great Lakes, mostly above the headwaters of the Saint Lawrence River, contrasted with Lower Canada (present-day Quebec) to the northeast. Upper Canada was the primary destination of Loyalist refugees and settlers from the United States after the American Revolution, who often were granted land to settle in Upper Canada. Already populated by Indigenous peoples, land for settlement in Upper Canada was made by treaties between the new British government and the Indigenous, exchanging land for one-time payments or annuities. The new province was characterized by its British way of life, including bicameral parliament and separate civil and criminal law, rather than mixed as in Lower Canada or elsewhere in the British Empire. The division was created to ensure the exercise of the same rights and privileges enjoyed by loyal subjects elsewhere in the North American colonies. In 1812, war broke out between Great Britain and the United States, leading to several battles in Upper Canada. The United States attempted to capture Upper Canada, but the war ended with the situation unchanged. The government of the colony came to be dominated by a small group of persons, known as the "Family Compact", who held most of the top positions in the Legislative Council and appointed officials. In 1837, an unsuccessful rebellion attempted to overthrow the undemocratic system. Representative government would be established in the 1840s. Upper Canada existed from its establishment on 26 December 1791 to 10 February 1841, when it was united with adjacent Lower Canada to form the Province of Canada.

Will O' Wind Farm is an equestrian facility in Mono and was official host venue for the cross-country phase of eventing at the 2015 Pan American Games held in Toronto.The facility was opened in 1979 by Ann and Geoff Morgan. The venue has hosted national and international events to FEI Three Star level and has hosted the Ontario Provincial Eventing Championships in on three occasions. Will O' Wind also hosts schooling shows and clinics throughout the summer. For the 2015 Games the venue was bought up to FEI Three-Star standards and seating was located in clusters all over the course.

The Hockley Highlands Inn and Conference Centre, on the East side of 3rd Line Road, Mono, Ontario, south of Dufferin County Road 7 (Hockley Road), opposite the Hockley Valley Resort, is a hotel and conference centre with 5 main buildings on 200 acres (0.81 km2) of forested land sloping towards the Hockley Valley. It has been closed to the public since May 2007.

The Hockley Valley Resort is a ski retreat, 18-hole championship golf course, conference centre and hotel in Mono, Ontario, Canada. It has 15 runs and four ski lifts. The town of Mono also has the Hockley Valley Provincial Nature Reserve. The resort, originally a small hotel along with a ski retreat was purchased by Nancy Adamo in 1985 and, in 1986, it underwent a $250 million revamp into a resort, spa and conference centre. By 2000, it employed 250 staff.The property was previously Hockley Hills Resort. Later, it became Heritage Village Canada, affiliated with Jim Bakker's Heritage USA. Plans were abandoned and it ran independently shortly afterward. Eventually, it became Hockley Valley Resort.

Hockley Valley Provincial Nature Reserve is a nature reserve located on the Niagara Escarpment within the township of Mono, Ontario, Canada. It is managed by Ontario Parks. Approximately 80% of the Cannings Falls Area of Natural and Scientific Interest is within the borders of the park; land acquisitions are planned to encompass it entirely. The Bruce Trail links the reserve to other protected areas of the Niagara Escarpment.

Mono is a town situated in south-central Ontario, Canada, at the south-east corner of Dufferin County. It stretches from Highway 9 along its southern border to Highway 89 along its northern border. Its border to the west is with the Township of Amaranth and in the east, it is bordered by the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio. It was previously known as the Township of Mono. Mono is a rural community in both geography and character. It has a wide variation in topography, being composed of mostly rolling, tree-covered hills. It holds many streams and creeks which form the headwaters of three rivers - the Humber River, Nottawasaga River and Credit River and most of the town is located on high land relative to the rest of Southern Ontario. This leads to its current slogan of 'the heart of the headwaters'. Mono's residents live on farms, rural estates, and in small settlements. Mono Centre, Hockley Village, and Camilla are just some of the small communities which exist within the Town of Mono. Mono's population represents many different backgrounds, including the farming community, local businesses, numerous artists and artisans, commuters to neighboring towns and cities, and weekend escapees from the urban bustle. The origins of the name is believed to be from Sir Peregrine Maitland from Spanish for monkey.

Salem is a Dispersed Rural Community and unincorporated place in the municipality of Mono, Dufferin County in southwestern Ontario, Canada. The community is located at the intersection of 2nd Line EHS and Sideroad 5, 5.3 kilometres (3.3 mi) northeast of the town of Orangeville.

Mono Cliffs Provincial Park lies within the rural town of Mono, in southern Ontario, Canada, along the Bruce Trail. It is part of the Niagara Escarpment Parks System, and the escarpment Biosphere Reserve.

Dufferin—Caledon is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2004. It was created in 2003 from parts of Dufferin—Peel—Wellington—Grey riding. This riding gained a fraction of territory from Vaughan during the 2012 electoral redistribution. After David Tilson's resignation, in March 2019 the Dufferin—Caledon nomination for the Conservative Party in the 2019 election was won by Harzadan Singh Khattra, amid accusations within the party of vote tampering, membership reimbursement, and payments to foreign students to attend, despite their ineligibility within party rules.

Dufferin—Caledon is a provincial electoral district in southwestern Ontario, Canada. It was created for the 2007 provincial election. The entire riding was carved from Dufferin—Peel—Wellington—Grey, and includes all of Dufferin County plus the town of Caledon in Peel Region. The riding also existed from 1987 until 1999 with the same borders, but was known as Dufferin—Peel.

Orangeville/Rosehill Aerodrome (TC LID: COR8) is located adjacent to Orangeville, Ontario Canada.

CIDC-FM (103.5 FM, Z103.5) is a radio station licensed to Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Evanov Communications, the station broadcasts a rhythmic contemporary format targeting the Greater Toronto Area. Its studios are located on Dundas Street West in the Eatonville neighbourhood in the Etobicoke district of Toronto. CIDC has historically been known for having a dance and electronic music-leaning format, and has sponsored electronic music events and co-branded dance music compilations. CIDC held a 2.0 share of the market in Numeris's Spring 2018 ratings.Due to its signal location near Orangeville, the station covers Barrie and Kitchener in addition to rimshotting Downtown Toronto. The station has often marketed itself as a Toronto station, while Evanov made repeated attempts to move or otherwise modify CIDC's signal to better serve the GTA, almost all of which were denied by the CRTC for neglecting its formal city of licence. The CRTC also reprimanded CIDC for not specifically devoting enough on-air community interest programming, news, sports and information specific to Orangeville or Dufferin County, as specified in its original approval.
