New Milford is a borough in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 16,923, an increase of 582 (+3.6%) from the 2010 census count of 16,341, which in turn reflected a decline of 59 (−0.4%) from the 16,400 counted in the 2000 census.New Milford was authorized to be incorporated as a borough on March 11, 1922, from what remained of Palisades Township, subject to approval in a referendum (which took place on April 18, 1922). With the creation of New Milford, Palisades Township (which had been created in 1871) was dissolved. The borough is believed to have been named for Milford, Pennsylvania.

District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

New Milford High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grade from New Milford in Bergen County, United States, operating as the lone secondary school of the New Milford School District. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1964.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 611 students and 50.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.2:1. There were 49 students (8.0% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 17 (2.8% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The Acquackanonk were a Lenape group whose territory was on the Passaic River in northern New Jersey. They spoke the same dialect (Unami) and shared the same totem (turtle) as the neighboring Hackensack, Tappan and Rumachenanck (later called the Haverstraw). It may mean a place in a rapid stream where fishing is done with a net. Alternatively, at the lamprey stream from contemporary axkwaakahnung (spellings include Achquakanonk, Acquackanonk) Lastly it may mean where gum blocks were made for pounding corn.Ackquekenon was spelling used by European explorer Jasper Danckaerts in 1679. Part of the territory which they inhabited came into the possession of the Surveyor General of New Netherland Jacques Cortelyou, some "12,000 morgens at Aquackanonk on the Passaic, purchased by himself and associates of the Indians." A deed for the land (for Hans Didereck and others) is dated March 25, 1676. It was first settled in 1678 by Dutch traders, who in 1693 formed a Dutch Reformed congregation.Acquackanonk Township was incorporated in 1693. It was located in the northern part of Essex County, New Jersey. In 1837, Passaic County was created, incorporating this township and some portions of both Bergen County and Essex County. When formed, the township included parts of present-day Clifton, Paterson and Passaic.

Jacobus Demarest House is located in New Milford, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The house was built in 1765 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 17, 1978. The historical marker at the property states: The earliest part of this house, one of the oldest in the county, was built on land purchased in 1677 by David Demarest Sr., founder of the Huguenot Colony in Bergen County. His grandson Jacobus, born 1681, lived here until his death in 1763. Jacobus’ son John completed the house in 1765. It remained in the family until 1850. An architectural feature surviving from its early days is its unbroken gambrel roof.

Palisades Township was a township that existed in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The township was in existence from 1871 to 1922. On March 22, 1871, Hackensack Township was divided into three parts that were incorporated as townships by the New Jersey Legislature, each stretching from the Hudson River on the east to the Hackensack River in the west: The northernmost portion was Palisades Township; The center strip was Englewood Township; and, The southernmost portion became Ridgefield Township.The new Township was quickly subdivided. The implementation by the New Jersey Legislature of a new Borough Act served to encourage the creation of new municipalities, most formed from portions of two (or more) Townships. Palisades Township survived for a half century after this new legislation, and the case of "Boroughitis" it fomented. In 1894, five boroughs were created from within Palisades Township (and portions of other townships, as indicated): Tenafly (January 24, 1894), Delford (March 8, 1894, now Oradell; also included portions of Harrington Township), Cresskill (May 11, 1894), Bergenfield (June 26, 1894, also created from portions of Englewood Township) and Schraalenburgh (July 20, 1894, changed name to Dumont in 1928; also included portions of Harrington Township). On May 10, 1895, Englewood Cliffs was created from sections of both Englewood Township and Palisades Township. Demarest was formed on April 8, 1903, from portions of both Palisades and Harrington Townships.On March 7, 1898, portions of the Borough of Schraalenburgh were annexed to the township.On March 11, 1922, New Milford was formed from the remaining portions of Palisades Township. With the creation of the Borough of New Milford, Palisades Township was dissolved.

Art Center of Northern New Jersey is a fine arts school and gallery offering art classes to the general public. It was founded in 1956, and is located on the premises of the old Lutheran Church in New Milford, New Jersey, United States. The Art Center took over the building after the current Lutheran Church St Matthew's received its new home across the road. The facility caters to adult and children wishing to get schooled in fine art. In addition to painting and photo studios the center can boast that it is the only place in the area which has a stone sculpture studio' with pneumatic equipment." It also has a fully equipped printmaking studio supported by two Charles Brand presses, darkroom and high-intensity light table for photo-based platemaking.The Art Center offers a full year-round program. Classes are taught by skilled professionals in drawing, painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media), photography, print making, and sculpture in stone and wood. Instructors monitor and teach life drawing and painting sessions. The facility sponsors four affiliate groups of artists: painters, sculptors, watercolorists, and print makers. The Center's gallery program hosts local and national level exhibits on its premises in the Marcella Geltman Gallery.

The New Milford Plant of the Hackensack Water Company was a water treatment and pumping plant located on Van Buskirk Island, an artificially created island in the Hackensack River, in Oradell, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The site was purchased in 1881 by the Hackensack Water Company, which developed it for water supply use. The facility was built between 1881 and 1911, and it includes a brick pumping station from 1882, a tall filtration tower, and huge underground infrastructure. The Hackensack Water Company was merged into United Water in the 1980s; the successor today is Suez North America.
