The school is located on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, approximately nine miles from Ithaca. Lansing High School has an enrollment of approximately 375 students, with slightly under one hundred students in each graduating class. The school district consists of one high school, one middle school, and one elementary school. Lansing High School's colors are blue and gold, and the school mascot is the bobcat, otherwise known as the Lansing Bobcats.

The area was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.The community is in northern Tompkins County, southeast of the geographic center of the town of Lansing. It is the location of the Lansing Town Hall. New York State Route 34 passes through the community, leading north 30 miles (48 km) to Auburn and south through the village of Lansing 7 miles (11 km) to Ithaca. State Route 34B joins Route 34 briefly in South Lansing but heads east 7 miles (11 km) to Route 38 between Groton and Freeville, while to the west it soon turns and runs parallel to Route 34, rejoining it in Fleming.

Rogues' Harbor Inn, formerly known as the Elm Grove Inn and Central Exchange Hotel, is a historic inn and tavern located in Lansing, New York. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009 and is located on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, approximately eight miles from Ithaca. The building is a three-story brick structure built in the Greek Revival style between 1830 and 1842 by major general Daniel Minier. It's a 40-foot-deep by 80-foot-wide rectangular on a stucco-coated fieldstone foundation with a gable roof. The building features a full-width porch with a roof supported by turned posts. The author Grace Miller White used it as the inspiration for the setting for her novel Judy of Rogue's Harbor, which was made into a film of the same name in 1920.

The Southern Cayuga Lake Intermunicipal Water Commission, commonly known as the Bolton Point Water System or just Bolton Point, is a public water system serving the suburbs and surroundings of Ithaca, New York. The system draws water from Cayuga Lake, and serves the Village of Lansing, the Village of Cayuga Heights, the Town of Ithaca (including Ithaca College), the Town of Lansing, and parts of the Town of Dryden. It is one of three water systems in the Ithaca area, the others being run by the City of Ithaca and Cornell University. The system was created after a drought in the mid-1960s prompted local officials to seek alternatives to the existing, creek-supplied water systems in the area. It opened in 1976.

The mall's currently anchor stores are Target, Regal Cinemas, Best Buy, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Michaels.
