Petra Nova

The W.A. Parish Generating Station is a 3.65-gigawatt (3,653 MW), dual-fired power plant located near Thompsons, Texas. The station occupies a 4,664-acre site near Smithers Lake southwest of Houston in Fort Bend County and consists of two four-unit plants; one natural gas and the other coal (2,697 MW). With a total installed capacity of 3,653 MW, it is the second largest conventional power station in the US, and supplies about fifteen percent of the energy in the Houston area. NRG Energy owns and operates the plant.The Powder River Basin supplies three 115-car trainloads worth of low-sulfur coal to units 5-8 or 36,000 tons daily.Completed in January 2017, the post-combustion Petra Nova Carbon Capture Project became largest installed on an existing power plant in the world. The system pumped 1.6 million tons of filtered carbon dioxide (CO2) from unit 8 to the West Ranch Oil Field 82 miles away in Jackson County. Overall as the system was powered by natural gas it was expected to have a net effect of not releasing 785,000 tons of carbon annually. The system cost approximately $1 billion, but was idled in 2020 due to the low price of oil during the COVID-19 pandemic.Adjacent to Parish Station is the natural gas Brazos Valley Power Plant owned by Calpine Energy which opened in 2003.

Smithers Lake is an artificial impoundment in Fort Bend County, Texas, collecting water from Dry Creek. It is located south of the Brazos River, nine miles (14 km) southeast of Richmond, and is completely within the city limits of Thompsons. The project is owned and operated by NRG Energy as the cooling-water supply for the WA Parish Generating Station. It was previously owned by the Houston Lighting and Power Company. Construction was started on August 22, 1956, and was completed on July 1, 1957. Water had already been impounded in a small lake, and the date for beginning of impoundment in the new lake was October 15, 1957.

Thompsons is a town in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States, within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The population was 246 at the 2010 census.

Texas's 22nd congressional district of the United States House of Representatives covers a largely suburban southwestern portion of the Greater Houston metropolitan area. The district includes most of Fort Bend County, including most of the cities of Sugar Land, Rosenberg, Needville and the county seat of Richmond as well as the county's share of the largely unincorporated Greater Katy area west of Houston. In addition, the district also contains portions of northern Brazoria County, including most of Pearland and Alvin and all of Wharton and Matagorda counties, as well as a small portion of western Harris County centered on most of that county's share of the Greater Katy area. The district is represented by Republican Troy Nehls, who was elected in 2020 over two-time challenger Democrat Sri Preston Kulkarni. From 2009-2021 Texas's 22nd Congressional District was represented by Peter Graham Olson(Pete Olson). From 1985 until 2006 the district was represented by former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and before that, former Congressman and three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul briefly in 1976 and again from 1979 to 1985. The Cook Partisan Voting Index, which derives its data from the two most recent presidential elections, gave the district a 10-point Republican lean compared to the national average until its 2021 review, when it was lowered to 4-points.

Booth is a small unincorporated community in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. It is located along Farm to Market Road 2759 and the BNSF Railway southeast of Richmond, Texas. There are number of houses, an RV-park, a restaurant, a landscaping business and a historical marker in the area.

George Ranch High School is a secondary school located in unincorporated Fort Bend County, Texas, United States, south of Richmond. The school is part of the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. The school was established in fall 2010 with the intent of relieving the student populations at the other high schools in LCISD. George Ranch High School has approximately 2700 students. It serves: portions of Rosenberg, unincorporated portions of Fort Bend County, the LCISD portion of Sugar Land (including Greatwood), Thompsons, and the communities of Crabb, and Canyon Gate.The school's address is 8181 FM 762, Richmond, TX 77469, adjacent to Reading Junior High School. They won the 5A/D1 State Football Championship on December 18, 2015, defeating Lake Ridge High School 56–0. Clubs like TSA (Technology Student Association) also are very popular in this school as repeated TSA national appearances are very common.

Greatwood is a neighborhood within the city of Sugar Land in the state of Texas. It was formerly a census-designated place located in Fort Bend County. The population was 11,538 at the 2010 census, up from 6,640 at the 2000 census. It was annexed into the City of Sugar Land on December 12, 2017.

Crabb is a small unincorporated community in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. Crabb is located along Farm to Market Road 762 and the BNSF Railroad southeast of Richmond, Texas. The Crabb road sign is located west of the intersection of Crabb River Road and Farm to Market Road 2759 and FM 762. The Zion Hill Baptist Church, a Fort Bend County Road and Bridge facility, the Brazos Village and Brazos Gardens subdivisions, several businesses and an abandoned grain elevator are in the area.

William P. Clements High School, more commonly known as Clements High School, is a public high school in First Colony and Sugar Land within the U.S. state of Texas that is named after former Texas governor Bill Clements and is a part of the Fort Bend Independent School District. The school serves most of First Colony and a portion of Telfair. It previously served sections of Riverstone until district rezoning prior to the 2014-2015 school year. Clements High School has been recognized by Texas Monthly magazine in its list of the top high schools in the state of Texas. In US News magazine's 2018 ranking of United States high schools, Clements was ranked 446th out of 27,000 high schools nationwide. In 2010 and 2011, Clements High School was rated Exemplary.

Fort Bend County Libraries is a public library system serving the county of Fort Bend, Texas. The main library, the George Memorial Library, is located in Richmond, Texas.

The Smart Financial Centre, is a concert hall located off U.S. Highway 59 in Sugar Land, Texas, 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Houston. It is owned by the City of Sugar Land and is the only indoor live performance venue of its kind in the Greater Houston area.
