The Walter Elwood Museum is a museum of local history in Amsterdam, New York. The museum is currently located in at 100 Church Street in the former Noteworthy Complex and historic Sanford & Sons Carpet Mills building. The museum was founded in 1939 by Walter Elwood, a local history teacher, who began collecting local artifacts in the 1930s. The museum features interactive exhibits of local history, including area industry and textile mills, politics, the Victorian era and natural history. Collections include buttons, objects crafted by the Mohawk, hand-made doll clothes, glass teaching slides, political buttons, and fossils and shells. The museum has been housed in several locations in Amsterdam over time, including the Fifth Ward School, then the Guy Park Avenue School, and then the Guy Park Manor in 2009. In 2011, damage from Hurricane Irene forced the museum to close until a new home could be found. The museum opened in its current location in 2013.

Green Hill Cemetery is a historic rural cemetery located at Amsterdam in Montgomery County, New York. It was established in 1858. Unitarian Minister Amory Dwight Mayo delivered the dedication address, which explained the role that cemeteries played in creating a "Christian Republic." It encompasses 14,860 individual interments marked by imposing mausolea, elaborate monuments, family plots, decorative markers, and simple stones. It includes four contributing structures: Church Street entrance gate, upper pedestrian gate and path, receiving vault, and Sanford mausoleum. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Greene Mansion is a historic home located at 92 Market Street in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York. It was built in 1881 as a residence for Henry Eckford Greene, who died two months after it was completed and never lived in it. Henry Greene was one of two sons of William Kimball Greene, who founded the Greene Knitting Mills, the first carpet factory in Amsterdam. The Greene family built a number of beautiful houses on Market Street, of which the Greene Mansion is one.The mansion is a large two story, irregular brick building with a steeply pitched slate roof and attic gables. It features an oriel window, covered wooden balconies, and porches.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Amsterdam Free Library, located at 28 Church Street in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York was built from 1902 to 1903 and was designed by Albert W. Fuller in the Beaux-Arts style. It is a Carnegie library, the building of which was funded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, who contributed $25,000. The library was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.

Saint Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church Complex is a historic Roman Catholic church complex at 42, 46, 50 Cornell Street, and 73 Reid Street in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York. The complex consists of four contributing buildings: St. Stanislaus Church – 50-52 Cornell St., established 1894, built 1897, designed by Edward W. Loth, enlarged 1912; St. Stanislaus School – 42-44 Cornell St., founded 1897, built 1905–1906, designed by C. B. Machold, closed 2011; Felician Sisters convent – 46 Cornell Street, built 1934, now the Saint John Paul II Parish Center; and rectory – 73 Reid Street, built 1940–41, Georgian style.The church is a T-shaped brick building on a foundation of cut limestone. A transept was added in 1912. It features an engaged bell tower with pyramidal roof and finials.The complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The US Post Office-Amsterdam is a historic post office building located at 12-16 Church Street in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York. It was built in 1935–1936, and was designed by Louis A. Simon, the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department in the Colonial Revival style. It consists of a 2+1⁄2-story, symmetrically massed brick building with 1-story side wings and a large rear wing in the Colonial Revival style. The interior features a pair of 1939 murals by Henry Schnakenberg (1892–1970).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Temple of Israel is an historic former Reform Jewish congregation and synagogue located at 81⁄2 Mohawk Place in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York, in the United States. Rededicated as Templo Esperanza de Israel, the building has been used as a church since 2008.

The Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook is a public pedestrian bridge in the City of Amsterdam, New York, connecting Riverlink Park on the north shore of the Mohawk River to Bridge Street on the south shore. The bridge is 30 feet wide and spans 511 feet (156 m) over the river.Construction on the bridge began in June 2014 and it was opened to the public in August 2016. It features numerous trees and flower plantings, as well as local historical and cultural information engraved into the decking and on plaques along the railings. It is the first bridge spanning over water to include live trees planted on its surface.The primary source of funding for the project was $16.5 million allocated in the Rebuild and Renew New York Transportation Bond Act of 2005. An additional $1.65 million for artistic elements and other amenities was provided by grants from New York State.The opening of the bridge was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 31, 2016. New York Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, Congressman Paul Tonko, State Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, Montgomery County Executive Matthew Ossenfort, Amsterdam Mayor Michael Villa, and New York State Canal Corporation directors William Finch and Brian Stratton, were speakers at the ceremony.The bridge, which won the 2016 Engineering Project of the Year from the Capital District Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers, a 2016 Merit Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects, a Great Places in Upstate NY: Public Spaces Award from The American Planning Association and recognized in September 2019 as one of 13 "Great Places" awarded by the American Planning Federation (APA). is maintained by the City of Amsterdam and the New York State Canal Corporation.

Amsterdam is a city in Montgomery County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 18,219. The city is named after Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The City of Amsterdam is surrounded on the northern, eastern and western sides by the town of Amsterdam. The city developed on both sides of the Mohawk River, with the majority located on the north bank. The Port Jackson area on the south side is also part of the city.

Chalmers Knitting Mills was a historic factory building located at Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York. It was built in 1913 and expanded in 1916. The original section was a four-story, brick building. The 1916 addition was a seven-story, steel frame and reinforced concrete building with concrete block. The addition was set at a near-right angle to the original section, giving the building an L-shaped footprint. The mill produced undergarments and remained in operation under the Chalmers name until the founders' death in 1959.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.The city of Amsterdam was awarded a $1.4 million Restore New York state grant to demolish the factory, which was razed in 2011. The state Department of Environmental Conservation provided $1.9 million to clean up the contamination.
