Buchholz-Kämpen [German: Buchholz-Kämpen] is a city-district of Witten-Herbede, which is a part of the City of Witten, (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). Buchholz-Kaempen is placed about 12 kilometres southeast of the city.

Sprockhövel is a town in the district of Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Stiepel is a southern district of the City of Bochum in the Ruhr area in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is on the Ruhr River, which is its border to the neighbouring cities of Hattingen and Witten. Stiepel used to be a municipality in the rural district of Bochum, but was integrated into Bochum in 1929. Stiepel is the most affluent part of Bochum. It has an old village church dating from 1008. Originally a Catholic church, it became a Lutheran church in 1610 when the minister broke away from the church and converted to Lutheranism. The church was honored with a stamp commemorating its 1000th anniversary in 2008. Stiepel Priory is located in the town.

Blankenstein Castle (German: Burg Blankenstein) is a castle located on the south side of the river Ruhr in Hattingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.May 12, 1226 Adolf I, Count of the Mark, gave the order to build the castle. He charged Truchsess Ludolf von Bönen with its construction, beginning in 1227. The castle was ready in 1243, but further developed over the course of 200 years by the Counts of the Mark. By 1425, Blankenstein was one of the most important castles in the county. In 1614, shortly before the Thirty Years' War, it was occupied by Spanish troops. From 1637, the castle fell into disrepair so that, in September 1662, Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg ordered its demolition. Only the tower and parts of the curtain wall remained. In 1860, the owner of the ruin, the employer, Gustav vom Stein, began to rebuild the castle and established a factory there. The property has belonged to the city of Bochum since 1922, but the town is looking for an alternative due to the costs. From 1957 to 1959, most of the buildings of the 19th century were pulled down, but some still remain. The tower can still be visited and offers a good view over Bochum and the Kemnader Lake.

Since 1975 the former city of Herbede is a part of the city of Witten (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). As one of the eight boroughs of Witten, it is now called Witten-Herbede. Before the incorporation with Witten in 1975, Herbede was a city in the administrative district Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis. Herbede is placed about 5 kilometres southwest of the city of Witten in the southern Ruhr area in the Ruhr valley and has about 13,100 inhabitants today. Herbede has good bus connections and is served by bus lines 320, 374, 375, SB38, SB67 and at the weekend by night bus NE17. There are direct bus connections to central Witten, Witten-Annen, Witten-Rüdinghausen, Witten-Heven, Ruhr University Bochum, Wetter, Gevelsberg, Ennepetal, Hattingen and Wuppertal.

The Zeche Neuglück & Stettin (Neuglück & Stettin Mine) in Witten-Muttental is a former mine, also known as the Zeche Stettin & Neuglück. It was created in the Stadtforst Mutteltal as a result of the Niemeyersche Karte, where there is now a fire station and is west of today's Berghauser Straße. The Stettin tunnel is now a component of the Bergbauwanderweg Muttental Muttental Mining trail.

Hardenstein Castle (German: Burg Hardenstein) is a ruined castle in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The remains lie east of Herbede on the Ruhr River, surrounded by mountains, and are not easily accessible. Nearby ruins show that the castle was once part of an important mining centre, probably dating to the Middle Ages; the earliest records, from the 16th century, support this. The castle features in the legend of the Nibelungs.The castle's association with mining led to a legend that King Goldemar, a dwarf or kobold, dwelled there. One version of the story, recorded by Thomas Keightley in 1850, says that King Goldemar lived with Neveling von Hardenberg at the castle. For three years, he brought the inhabitants good luck until a curious man tried to see his footprints by casting tares and ashes about. Goldemar cut the man up, roasted his body, boiled his head and legs, and ate him. He was gone the next day, vowing through a note that the house would be as unlucky as it had been lucky while he lived there.

Stiepel Priory is a Cistercian monastery in Stiepel in Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It was founded in 1988 at the instigation of Franz Hengsbach, first Bishop of the Diocese of the Ruhr. It is a dependent house of Heiligenkreuz Abbey in Austria. The priory church is also a place of pilgrimage to the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is taken care of by the monks and the local parish.

Wannenbach (also: Pferdebach) is a small river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows into the Ruhr near Witten.
