Smithton, Highland

Resaurie is a village, that lies between Culloden and Westhill in Inverness-shire, Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland.

The Barn Church is a parish church of the Church of Scotland at Culloden, in the Presbytery of Inverness. Although the congregation is relatively young, and only received full status as a parish church in its own right in the late 1980s, the building is of considerable historical interest. It was originally built as a tithe barn for the estate of Culloden House, and in 1746 it was used by the Jacobite army as accommodation on the night before the Battle of Culloden. During the 19th century it was used as a blacksmith's workshop, before being taken over by the East Church of Inverness as a mission station in the early 20th century. When it was granted the status of a church extension charge in the 1970s, the congregation erected a new church called "the New Barn" (designed with architectural "barn metaphors") which is joined to the old building; the historic building (the "Old Barn") today serves as the church hall. Interesting architectural features of the Old Barn include the slit windows for defensive purposes and the parallel doors which can create a wind tunnel required for winnowing. The Church serves the Culloden, Balloch, Smithton, Westhill and Cradlehall areas on the outskirts of Inverness. On Friday, 14 November 2014, the new minister, the Rev. Mike Robertson, was ordained and inducted. The previous minister, the Rev. Jim Robertson, had served for about 20 years.

Culloden ( ; from Scottish Gaelic Cùl Lodain, "back of the small pond"; modern Gaelic Cùil Lodair) is the name of a village three miles (five kilometres) east of Inverness, Scotland and the surrounding area. 3 mi (5 km) east of the village is Drumossie Moor, site of the Battle of Culloden.

Cradlehall was originally the name given to the hall built by Major William Caulfield, later known as Cradlehall Farmhouse.Today it is a residential area in the east of Inverness, Scotland. In addition to housing, Cradlehall has a business park and a number of small businesses. The area was expanded recently with the development of Kessock View.

Allanfearn (, Scottish Gaelic: An t-Àilean Feàrna) is a small settlement, it lies 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Inverness, Inverness-shire, Scotland, within the Scottish council area of Highland.

Westhill (Gaelic: Cnoc Shuas) is a commuter village on the eastern outskirts of the city of Inverness, in the Highland council area of Scotland. It is about 3 miles (4.8 km) from the city centre, between Cradlehall and Culloden, to the south of the Moray Firth. The historic Culloden Battlefield lies 2 miles (3.2 km) away, to the east.

Allanfearn was a railway station located near Culloden, outside Inverness, Highland, Scotland. It was initially named Culloden when opened, but was renamed to Allanfearn in November 1898, to avoid confusion with the station at Culloden Moor on the newly opened direct line from Inverness to Aviemore.

Culloden Academy (Scottish Gaelic: Acadamaidh Cùil Lodair) is a non-denominational secondary school in Culloden, Highland, Scotland. The present enrollment is 1,117 pupils. The catchment area includes Balloch, Croy, Smithton, Cradlehall and Ardersier in the east of Inverness.

The Drumossie Hotel is an art deco resort and conference centre two kilometers south east of Inverness.

The Inverness Campus is an area in Inverness, Scotland. 5.5 hectares of the site have been designated as an enterprise area for life sciences by the Scottish Government. This designation is intended to encourage research and development in the field of life sciences, by providing incentives to locate at the site.The enterprise area is part of a larger site, over 200 acres, which will house Inverness College, Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), the University of the Highlands and Islands, a health science centre and sports and other community facilities. The purpose built research hub will provide space for up to 30 staff and researchers, allowing better collaboration.The Highland Science Academy will be located on the site, a collaboration formed by Highland Council, employers and public bodies. The academy will be aimed towards assisting young people to gain the necessary skills to work in the energy, engineering and life sciences sectors.

Milton of Leys (Scottish Gaelic: Baile Muilinn an Leigheis, meaning "Mill-Farm of Medicine" ) is an area of the city of Inverness in the Highland council area of Scotland. It lies on high ground overlooking the Moray Firth, 3 miles (5 km) southeast of the city centre, to the west of the A9 road. Since the 1990s, Milton of Leys has developed largely as a residential settlement. Construction of a local primary school began in June 2010, opening in August 2011. Previously, pupils attended nearby Inshes Primary. Housing development has continued throughout the 21st century, with Milton of Leys being one of the city's fastest growing areas.

Inshes (, Scottish Gaelic: Na h-Innseagan, pronounced [nə ˈhĩːʃəxən]) is a small residential area in the east of Inverness, Scotland. Inverness is the capital of the Highlands and is one of the fastest-growing cities in Europe. Some parts of Inshes were built a few decades ago, but most of it was built after 2003. A few houses are still being constructed and not yet finished. The houses are made by Barrat and Tulloch Homes, which are quite popular and expensive in Britain. A majority of the houses are semi-detached but some are detached. There are also a few flats in Inshes.
