The King of Clubs was a famous Whig conversation club, founded in 1798. In contrast to its mainly Tory forerunner The Club (established by Samuel Johnson, Edmund Burke and Sir Joshua Reynolds), it was a predominantly Whig fraternity of some of the most brilliant minds of the day. The club met at the Crown and Anchor on Arundel Street off the Strand, in London.

The Anacreontic Society was a popular gentlemen's club of amateur musicians in London founded in the mid-18th century. These barristers, doctors, and other professional men named their club after the Greek court poet Anacreon, who lived in the 6th century B.C. and whose poems, "anacreontics", were used to entertain patrons in Teos and Athens. Dubbed "the convivial bard of Greece", Anacreon's songs often celebrated women, wine, and entertaining. While the society's membership, one observer noted, was dedicated to "wit, harmony, and the god of wine", their primary goal (beyond companionship and talk) was to promote an interest in music. The society presented regular concerts of music, and included among their guests such important musicians as Joseph Haydn, who was the special guest at their concert in January 1791. There is also evidence of an Anacreontic Society having existed at St Andrews University in the late 18th century in much the same vein as the Anacreontic Society of London. However, due to the club's informal nature, detailed accounts of the group are sparse. The collection of the Irish Anacreontic Society, active in Dublin from 1740 to 1865, is among the special collections of the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

Arundel Street is a street in the City of Westminster, London, that runs from Strand in the north to Temple Place in the south. It is on land once occupied by Arundel House and its gardens.

The Crown and Anchor, also written Crown & Anchor and earlier known as The Crown, was a public house in Arundel Street, off The Strand in London, England, famous for meetings of political (particularly the early 19th-century Radicals) and various other groups. It is no longer in existence.The first tavern built on the site sometime before 1710 accommodated the Academy of Vocal Music and the Royal Society. George Frideric Handel premiered his first oratorio, Esther, here in 1732, a significant moment in British musical life as it was the first oratorio in English (rather than the usual Italian). Samuel Johnson and James Boswell dined here during the 18th century. A second tavern was built in 1790, and both this and its earlier incarnation may have been called The Crown. Its rooms were large and able to accommodate 2,500 people, leading to its use as a venue for political meetings, particularly by the Radicals, including John Cam Hobhouse and Charles James Fox. One meeting was addressed by the Irish leader and MP in the United Kingdom Parliament, Daniel O'Connell. On 11 November 1823, George Birkbeck made a speech at the Crown and Anchor, attended by over 2000 people including Jeremy Bentham, Hobhouse and Henry Brougham, at which he proposed the foundation of an institution dedicated to educating the working-class inhabitants of London. This meeting led to the foundation of London Mechanics' Institute on 2 December 1823, which would go on to become Birkbeck, University of London.The Association for Preserving Liberty and Property against Republicans and Levellers, founded by John Reeves in 1792, were known as the Crown and Anchor Society or Association.During the late 20th century, the site housed offices and a branch of HSBC Bank. It is today a residential development, 190 Strand, incorporating groundfloor retail units.

Milford Lane is a narrow street in the City of Westminster that runs from Strand in the north to a brief walkway section leading to Temple Place in the south. It is joined by Little Essex Street and Essex Street on its eastern side. Maltravers Street once joined the lane to Arundel Street, but ceased to exist when building work at 190 Strand was completed.

The Cheshire Cheese is a public house at 5 Little Essex Street, London WC2, on the corner with Milford Lane. It is a grade II listed building, rebuilt in 1928 by Nowell Parr on the site of an earlier pub, for the Style & Winch Brewery. There has been a tavern on this site since the 16th century.

St Clement Danes is an Anglican church in the City of Westminster, London. It is situated outside the Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand. Although the first church on the site was reputedly founded in the 9th century by the Danes, the current building was completed in 1682 by Sir Christopher Wren. Wren's building was gutted during the Blitz and not restored until 1958, when it was adapted to its current function as the central church of the Royal Air Force. The church is sometimes claimed to be the one featured in the nursery rhyme "Oranges and Lemons" and the bells do indeed play that tune. However, St Clement's Eastcheap, in the City of London, also claims to be the church from the rhyme. St Clement Danes is known as one of the two 'Island Churches', the other being St Mary-le-Strand.

Arundel House was a London town-house or palace located between the Strand and the River Thames, near the Church of St Clement Danes.

The Gladstone Memorial on the Strand, London is a bronze sculpture of the British statesman, created by Hamo Thornycroft between 1899-1905. The statue was erected as the national memorial to Gladstone and shows him in the robes of the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The figure stands on a plinth surrounded by allegorical figures depicting four of the Virtues, Courage, Brotherhood, Education and Aspiration. The memorial is a Grade II listed structure.

Howard Street was in the Liberty of the Savoy between Westminster and the City of London; it ran from Surrey Street in the west to Arundel Street in the east, and was crossed only by Norfolk Street. It was demolished in the 1970s.

domobaal is an art gallery in John Street in Holborn in central London. It was established in 2000 in a Georgian townhouse, a former head office of a firm of lawyers, left largely unrestored. The gallery specialises in contemporary painting, sculpture, film and artists publications, having hosted over 200 exhibitions by artists including Ansel Krut, Lothar Götz, Neil Zakiewicz, David Gates, Neil Gall, Stuart Brisley, Sharon Kivland, Nicky Hirst, Haris Epaminonda, Marcel Dinahet, Maud Cotter, Alice Wilson, Emma Talbot, Ailbhe Ní Bhriain and Walter Swennen among many others.

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a British research institute (or think tank) in the area of international affairs. Since 1997 its headquarters have been Arundel House in London, England. The 2017 Global Go To Think Tank Index ranked IISS as the tenth-best think tank worldwide and the second-best Defence and National Security think tank globally, while Transparify ranked it third-largest UK think tank by expenditure, but gave it its lowest rating, "deceptive", on funding transparency.
