The population was 55,310 as of the 2010 census, making it the second most populous township in Montgomery County (following Lower Merion Township). Abington Township is one of Montgomery County's oldest communities, dating back to before 1700 and being incorporated in 1704. It is home to some of the county's oldest transportation routes, industries and churches. Many of these older business and transportation centers were the forerunners of modern Abington. Abington contains the Willow Grove Park Mall, several small businesses, and a few of Montgomery County's largest employers.

Rydal is an unincorporated community in Abington Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Rydal is mainly residential except for one large shopping area. The Abington campus of Pennsylvania State University is located in Rydal. The Rydal train station was a stop on the Reading Railroad line beginning in the late 19th century and now is part of the SEPTA Regional Rail system on the West Trenton Line. Old York Road Historical Society (OYRHS) maintains an archive of the history of the area. It reported that the Rydal Train Station was originally called "Benezet." However, the station and the area was renamed after Rydal and Keswick in the United Kingdom.

Penn State Abington is a commonwealth campus of the Pennsylvania State University and it is located in Abington, Pennsylvania. The campus is set on 45 acres (180,000 m2) of wooded land. The roughly 4000 undergraduate students (full-time and part-time students combined) are taught by a full-time staff of over 150 professors and teaching assistants. Several degree options are available at Penn State Abington. Students may start any of 160 Penn State baccalaureate programs at the Abington campus and complete them at another Penn State campus, including the main University Park campus. Two associate degree programs, 19 baccalaureate degree programs, and several continuing education programs designed for adult students are also available. The athletics program has been granted full NCAA Division III status.

Rydal station is a station along the SEPTA West Trenton Line to Ewing, New Jersey. It is located at Susquehanna Road and Old Valley Road in the Rydal neighborhood of Abington Township, Pennsylvania. In FY 2013, Rydal station had a weekday average of 147 boardings and 138 alightings. The station has off-street parking and now houses a post office. Rydal station was originally built in 1888 by the Reading Railroad, and is located on the north side of the tracks off of Susquehanna Road. An open sheltered shed can be found on Washington Lane, and the intersection of Washington Lane and Susquehanna Road can be found east of the shed beneath an 11'6" bridge under the tracks.

Bethayres is an unincorporated community in Lower Moreland Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is named for Elizabeth Ayres, who lived at 2410 Huntingdon Pike, in a house now owned by Huntingdon Valley Presbyterian Church. As an unincorporated place, it is served by the Huntingdon Valley post office; for this reason, it is often said to be a section of Huntingdon Valley.Bethayres has a station on the SEPTA West Trenton Regional Rail line, providing access to Philadelphia and New Jersey.

Hollywood is an unincorporated community in the southern portion of Abington Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is well known for its collection of Southern California-style homes. The 174-home neighborhood got its start when a builder from California, Gustav Weber, filed plans to build a small subdivision in 1928. The homes were built in pastel colors with flat roofs, similar to Spanish-style homes in the Los Angeles area. Streets were named Los Angeles, San Diego, Pasadena and San Gabriel.However, one of Weber's problems was that the neighborhood landscaping and hardscaping features were not built to cope with the Northeastern winters. Plants native to Southern California and Moravian tile sidewalks were included in his plans. The plants died in the cold. The tile cracked and was replaced by concrete. As a result, modifications were made to the area after it was built. The neighborhood was never finished according to Weber's plans. Possible reasons ranged from the 1929 stock market crash to an unfaithful wife. A local developer finished the development in the 1940s. The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has listed the area as eligible for national registry. As a result, residents can apply for federal grants to maintain the historical character of the neighborhood.

Huntingdon Valley station is a former SEPTA Regional Rail station in Lower Moreland Township, Pennsylvania. It was located on Terwood Road near Old Welsh Road (PA 63) and served the Fox Chase/Newtown Line. SEPTA closed the station in 1983, and the shelter was subsequently demolished.

Walnut Hill station is a defunct SEPTA Regional Rail station in Abington Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Located on Moredon Road, it served the Fox Chase/Newtown Line. SEPTA closed the station in 1983.

The Huntingdon Valley Country Club is a golf, tennis and swim club located in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Philadelphia. In addition to a golf course, the club offers banquet and dining facilities. The course resides on 170 acres (0.69 km2), and is ranked as the #9 golf course in Pennsylvania and #3 course in the Philadelphia area by Golf Digest (2013–2014 rankings by state). The golf course is rated as #79 best classic course in America by Golfweek Magazine (2013).

Bethayres station is a SEPTA Regional Rail station in Bethayres, Pennsylvania. It is located at Station Avenue and Old Welsh Road and serves the West Trenton Line to Ewing, New Jersey. Bethayres station was originally built in 1876 by the Reading Railroad. The station has off-street parking and a ticket office. There is also a handicapped-accessible platform. In FY 2013, Bethyares station had a weekday average of 578 boardings and 553 alightings. Bethayres is the last boarding stop for AM peak service express trains to Philadelphia and the first discharge stop for PM peak service express trains from Philadelphia.
