Marriotts Ridge High School is a public High School located in Marriottsville, Maryland, United States. It is part of the Howard County Public School System. The school was named after the town of Marriottsville, and the height of its location. The pre-opening name of Marriott's Ridge was later changed to Marriotts Ridge.The school is located in northern Howard County on Maryland Route 99, just east of Maryland Route 32, and north of Interstate 70. It is approximately 15 miles west of Baltimore and 25 miles north of Washington, DC. The school was planned to be built on the grounds of the Alpha Ridge Landfill, but a 3–2 council vote in 2002 redirected the building to a site across from Mount View Middle School. Marriotts Ridge is a mirror image of both Long Reach High School and Reservoir High School. The school borders the districts for Glenelg High School, River Hill High School, Wilde Lake High School, Centennial High School, and Mount Hebron High School. In 2015, U.S. News & World Report ranked Marriotts Ridge as the No. 265 best high school nationwide and No.7 statewide on its list of "America's Best High Schools".

Benson is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States. Benson is located 8 miles (13 km) west of Ellicott City.

Alpha is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States. A postal office operated from 27 February 1884 to 15 June 1915.Alpha is the site of the Mt. View Cemetery. The town between Marriottsville, and Sykesville is not recognized by the name, but is dominated by the controversial Alpha Ridge Landfill. It was home to one of Howard County's earliest bicycle clubs active in 1891.

Wavertree or Howards Resolution is a historic home located in Glenelg, Maryland in Howard County. The estate was first surveyed as "Howard's Second Discovery" by Henry Howard in 1712. It is notable as the family seat of the prominent Iglehart family. Tilgman Iglehart built the federal style stone house in the federal style. Tilgman along with other family members are buried onsite in a family grave. The name Wavertree comes from a later owner, Colonel Leven Gale, who had ancestors in Wavertree, England. As with many pre-colonial buildings of the region, the fieldstone structure was a later addition attached to an older log structure. in 1938, the log structure section was removed from deterioration. The building was acquired in 1973 by Howard County for a park, but was returned to private ownership to Robert Watson by 1974 and Charles R. Miller Jr by 1978. The property is currently surrounded by Benson Branch Park.

Pfefferkorn House and Granary, or Lichendale is a historic slave plantation house located in West Friendship, Maryland near Glenelg, Maryland in Howard County, Maryland, United States. The Lichendale farm is 450 acres combined from the 1837 Walter Brown, 1848 Gerald Hobbs and 1855 Thomas Jenkins farms. The Lichendale mansion was built on the site in 1872 for the Shipley Family. 450 acres of land from "Hobbs Rest", "Poverty Discovered", and "Cumberland" were purchased by Laura Shipley, wife of the late Ethelbert E. Shipley from 1871-1872. The estate was inherited by her daughter Ethel and her husband Milfin Hood who sold the property after the deaths of their two daughters Betty and Carol in 1931. The estate was purchased by the Pfefferkorn family.The Lichendale mansion burned in 1946. A wooden granary built between 1841 and 1868 was relocated in 1972 onto the Northern foundation and clad in grapevine seam brick. The Pfefferkorn house is a five bay wide, two story tall brick structure on a fieldstone foundation.Outbuildings on the site include an 1873 Victorian playhouse, smokehouse, shed and four gable barn. The house and estate are on a 51-acre remainder parcel. The farms of state Senator Robert H. Kittleman inherited by county executive Allan Kittleman, and former county executive Norman E. Moxley's son's estate "Popular Springs Garden Invasion" reside on subdivisions of the original farm, sheltered by the Pfefferkorn Natural Resource Area owned by Howard County.

Howard Lodge is a historic plantation house in north-central Howard County, Maryland. The main house, built around 1750 by Edward Dorsey, son of John Dorsey, is one of the oldest plantation houses in the county. Compared to other houses of the period, the two-story brick and stone structure is larger and its interior finishes better preserved. The surviving plantation property, about 15 acres (6.1 ha), also includes early 19th-century stone outbuildings. Edward Dorsey was given ownership of seven African-American slaves by his father John Dorsey.The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Henryton Heights is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States.

The Shipley House was located in Alpha, Howard County, Maryland, near Marriottsville. The house was among five other buildings supporting a farm in Alpha, Maryland. The 55-acre (22 ha) property was part of a 3,440-acre (1,390 ha) land grant named Woodford patented in 1727. John Taylor acquired the land and 2,707 acres (1,095 ha) of the estate were sold to Phillip Hammond in 1744. In 1777, Charles Hammond bequeathed 1,500 acres (610 ha) of Woodford and his slaves to his son. Nathan Shipley acquired a portion and through inheritance, Joshua H. Shipley acquired 77 acres (31 ha) of the Woodford estate, raising 12 children on-site. The slave plantation harvested tobacco and grain crops. The frame farm house was constructed in 1830. Outbuildings included a wellhouse (1900), a frame shed (1835), and a bank barn (1884). John and Mary O'Mara farmed and maintained the property as Sunnyside Farm, raising hoses and cattle until sale in 1979. The farm was purchased by Howard County in 1979 as possible expansion space for the controversial Alpha Ridge Landfill project. The county boarded up the properties without maintenance. In August 1992, the firm of Goodwin and Associates determined that the deterioration that occurred in twelve years of ownership by Howard County negated any effort to preserve the property. The land was converted to the Alpha Ridge Community Park in 1994, demolishing the Shipley House and outbuildings to replace them with a complex of revenue generating ball fields and facilities.

Ivory is an unincorporated community located at the northwest tip of Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is located between modern Glenelg and West Friendship.

Located Glenelg, Maryland in Howard County, Maryland, United States, Howard County Hunt Club. The property was part of 148 acres of land grants "Dorsey's Grove" and "Benjamin's Addition" owned by Billingslea purchased by John W.H. Cullam of Baltimore in 1858 while slavery was still in wide use in the area. It was later considered located in the town of Isaacsville, Maryland. In 1882 it was owned by Joeseph Hobbs Peddicord and resold to Nicholas A Selby. Selby sold off 103 acres to Louis A and Helen Lambert. In 1897 the land was sold again to Josephine B. and Issac H. Iglehart. William T. Iglehart purchased the property in 1900. A wood framed, L-shaped house was built onsite. The Howard County Hunt Club relocated from the Burliegh Manor tenant house and purchased the historic house and 102 acre grounds in 1931 for Fox hunting, meetings, operations, kennels and horse ring. A three by four bay wooden barn was also onsite. A Corn crib was lost to fire in the 1970s. The club relocated in 1997.The Howard County Public School System demolished the historic residence to construct Tridelphia Ridge Elementary school and adjacent Folly Quarter Middle School.

The Shrine of St. Anthony is a Roman Catholic shrine honoring St. Anthony of Padua. The shrine is located within the St. Joseph Cupertino Friary in Ellicott City, Maryland, USA. The shrine is a ministry of the Conventual Franciscan Friars, Our Lady of the Angels Province, USA. The friary covers 20,194 sq ft (1,876.1 m2) on 320 acres (1.3 km2; 0.50 sq mi) of hills and woodland. The chapel which houses the relic of St. Anthony is open to the public during published visiting hours. Mass is offered at noon daily throughout the year. The shrine also offers the Sacrament of Reconciliation, spiritual direction, and days of prayer. For prayer and solitude the grounds around the friary offers seven trails and a Lourdes grotto. In 2010 an outdoor shrine to St. Maximilian Kolbe was added to the garden. It features a statue of Maximilian Kolbe that was blessed by Pope John Paul II on the day Maximilian Kolbe was canonized. The historic Manor House is open to the public during posted hours on the Sundays in October until the first Sunday of November. It features two heritage rooms and a traveling art exhibit. In 2008 it displayed watercolor paintings by Fr. Gerry Waterman, OFM Conv. and poetry by Fr. Gary Johnson, OFM Conv. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
