Barrington High School (Rhode Island)

Barrington is a suburban, residential town in Bristol County, Rhode Island, United States, located approximately 7 miles (11 km) southeast of Providence. It was founded by Congregationalist separatists from Swansea, Massachusetts, and incorporated in 1717.Barrington was ceded from Massachusetts to Rhode Island and merged into Warren in 1747, and in 1770 made into a separate town by the Rhode Island legislature. It was a sparsely developed, agricultural community until the arrival of brickmaking companies in the 1850s, which employed large numbers of French-Canadians and Italians. The construction of a railroad to Providence in 1855 further contributed to suburban development, attracting residents of neighboring urban areas and contributing to the development of manufacturing industries. The post-World War II baby boom increased suburbanization trends, resulting in a large population increase. Schools were constructed throughout the 1950s to accommodate this population. Three Barrington schools are National Blue Ribbon Schools, and its high school was at its highest, ranked No. 189 in the United States by Newsweek in 2019. Money noted the appeal of Barrington's high test scores and relative affordability, naming it one of the best places to live in the United States. Historical sites provide examples of architectural and suburban development during various stages of the town's history, including the Allen-West House, Barrington Civic Center Historic District, and O'Bannon Mill. Nine sites in Barrington are listed under the National Register of Historic Places. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 17,153.

St. Andrew's School (founded in 1893) is a nondenominational boarding and day school located on a 100-acre (0.40 km2) campus in Barrington, Rhode Island, serving co-educational grades 6-12 and postgraduate (PG).

Barrington Christian Academy (BCA) is private Christian school in Barrington, Rhode Island, United States. The school started in the 1979–1980 school year by the neighboring Barrington Baptist Church and was made into an elementary and middle school containing grades K-8. From 1984–1986, the school incorporated a high school. Due to budget issues, the high school was discontinued and the school was left with grades K-8. At the beginning of the 2005 school year, the BCA board began to discuss the possibility of re-establishing the high school. The following year, a freshmen class of eleven students enrolled. Presently, the high school has been established for over 8 years. During the 2007–2008 school year, the building underwent major construction to add an addition to be used primarily for the high school classes and to provide enhanced teacher workspaces and a counseling office. The addition contains four classrooms, a science lab, a conference room, a music room, and a new library to be enjoyed by the entire school. The Barrington Christian Academy is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the New England Association of Schools & Colleges. During 2007, BCA also gained permission to receive I20's from foreign students.

Barrington Civic Center Historic District is a historic district in Barrington, Rhode Island on County Road. The district, which consists of the Barrington Town Hall, Leander R. Peck School and Prince's Hill Cemetery, is located on Prince's Hill near the center of Barrington. In 1728, Prince's Hill Cemetery was purchased and later expanded to its present size by 1898. The 1+1⁄2-story Barrington Town Hall was completed in 1888 and originally served as the seat of the town's government, library and high school. With the completion of the Leander R. Peck School in 1917, the high school moved into the adjacent building and the library used its space. The two-story Elizabethan Revival style Peck School is designed with a T-shaped plan and features a stairway to access the main entrance on the second story. The Peck School was later used by the fifth and sixth-grade elementary students before becoming the public library. Also located within the district is Wood's Pond. The Barrington Civic Center Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and serves as a historically significant example of civic and natural environment planning of the late nineteenth century.

Barrington Preservation Society is a museum and preservation society in Barrington, Rhode Island. The BPS was founded in 1885 as the “Barrington Historic Antiquarian Society” and renamed the “Barrington Preservation Society” in 1965. The society is dedicated to telling the history of the Town of Barrington, Rhode Island through its museum and events.

The Barrington River is a tidal extension of Runnins River in the U.S. states of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. It flows approximately 6 km (4 mi). There are no dams along the river's length.

Barrington College was a four-year Christian liberal arts college located in Barrington, Rhode Island. It is no longer in operation.

Rhode Island Country Club (RICC) is a private country club located in Barrington, Rhode Island. It includes a golf course designed in 1911 by Donald Ross and overlooks the Narrangansett Bay near the intersection of Nayatt Road and Middle Highway. Each June the country club hosts the CVS Caremark Charity Classic, hosted by club member and PGA Tour player Brad Faxon.

Belton Court (also known as Ferrin Hall, Barrington College, Gibson Memorial Building, and Peck Mansion) is a historic estate on Middle Highway in Barrington, Rhode Island. The mansion was built for Frederick Stanhope Peck, a businessman, socialite, and Rhode Island political figure. Later in the twentieth century, the mansion and surrounding property served as the campus for Barrington College and the Zion Bible Institute. At its peak, Belton Court served as the mansion for the 800-acre Peck estate. Encompassing roughly 55,000 square feet, the mansion was constructed over the course of thirty years from 1905 to 1928. The initial 1905 segment (the current eastern wing) was designed by Martin & Hall, an esteemed Providence architectural firm. The expansive 1927–1928 north and west additions were designed by George Frederic Hall, that firm's successor.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Since 2011, Belton Court and the surrounding structures have been predominately vacant.

The CVS Health Charity Classic is a professional golf tournament. It is contested annually as a one-day, three-person team event. Each team is made up of one player from each of three Tours: PGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions, and LPGA Tour. The top two scores at each hole for the team count towards the team's final score. It is held at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, Rhode Island. It is an unofficial event on the PGA Tour and was first played in 1999. The original format was a two-man team event, involving players solely from the PGA Tour. However, since 2017, it has become a three-person team event, with players from PGA Tour Champions and LPGA Tour joining up with a PGA Tour player to form each team. Rhode Island natives Brad Faxon and Billy Andrade serve as hosts.

Haines Memorial State Park is public recreation area in the town of Barrington on the northeastern side of Narragansett Bay, six miles (9.7 km) south of East Providence, Rhode Island. The state park offers picnicking, play fields, fishing and boating facilities, and is a stop on the East Bay Bike Path.

St. Matthew's Episcopal Church is a historic Episcopal church located at 5 Chapel Road in Barrington, Rhode Island. It is an active parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island. The congregation began as a mission in 1880, and was established as a parish in 1883, under the guidance of Rev. William Merrick Chapin. The church building was designed by William R. Walker & Son, and built in 1891. It is an eclectic mix of Queen Anne and Gothic Revival style. The attached parish hall was built in 1893. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
