Esopus Island

The George Rymph House is a historic house located on Albany Post Road (U.S. Route 9) in Hyde Park, New York, United States. It is a stone house built during the 1760s by a recent German immigrant. In 1993, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.It is one of the few remaining pre-Revolutionary houses in Hyde Park, the oldest stone house, and second-oldest house overall in the town. The Rymph family retained ownership of the house until selling it in the early 20th century to the Dominican Fathers who owned most of the surrounding property at the time. Several renovations, including a stucco exterior, have modified the original appearance.It served as a cottage for the camp's caretaker until the early 21st century, when the land conservation organization Scenic Hudson bought the property. The house has been vacant since then. Scenic Hudson has been trying to sell or lease the house to a party interested in restoring and preserving it.

Cumming-Parker House is a historic estate located at Esopus in Ulster County, New York. It is a two-story, wood-frame house. It was built about 1836 and enlarged about 1875. It features a gallery along all four sides. Also on the property are a boat house, two-seat privy, summer house, and the remains of a large ice house.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

Esopus is a hamlet located in the town of Esopus, in Ulster County, New York. It is located south of Ulster Park on route 9W. Esopus is within the Kingston metro area. The name Esopus comes from the name of the Native American tribe who lived in the area.

Esopus ( eh-SOHP-əs) is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 9,548 at the 2020 census. The town was named after the local indigenous tribe and means "small river" in English. They were one of the Lenape (Delaware) bands, belonging to a people who ranged from western Connecticut through lower New York, western Long Island, and parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania along the Delaware River. The town is on the west bank of the Hudson River south of the city of Kingston. Its center is in Port Ewen. US Route 9W passes along the eastern side of the town.

Mount St. Alphonsus Seminary (later Mount St. Alphonsus Retreat Center), located in Esopus, New York, was an American Roman Catholic seminary founded in 1907 by the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, more commonly known as the Redemptorist Fathers and Brothers. It operated as a seminary until 1985, after which it became a center for meetings and spiritual retreats for the people of the Hudson Valley in New York. In 2012, the Mount St. Alphonsus Retreat Center was purchased by the Bruderhof Anabaptists who renamed the building as The Mount Community and started The Mount Academy, a parochial school, at the premises. A daily meal is shared by the Bruderhof members of The Mount Community who worship together several times throughout the week, living together as a Christian intentional community.

Col. Oliver Hazard Payne Estate is a historic 60-acre (24 ha) estate, also known as Omega and Wiltwick, located on the west bank of the Hudson River at Esopus in Ulster County, New York, United States. The estate features a 42,000-square-foot (3,900 m2) Beaux Arts-style Mediterranean palazzo with an open courtyard. It was designed in 1905 for Col. Oliver Hazard Payne by the architect Thomas Hastings of the firm of Carrère and Hastings, who also designed the New York Public Library and the Henry Clay Frick House. The estate is currently owned by Marist College and operated as the Raymond A. Rich Institute for Leadership Development.

Holy Cross Monastery is located on US 9W in West Park, New York, United States. It is the mother house of the Order of the Holy Cross, an Anglican religious order inspired by the Benedictine tradition. The building, designed in a combination of Mission/Spanish Revival and Tudorbethan styles by architects Ralph Adams Cram and Henry Vaughan, both known for their religious buildings, began construction in 1902 and was dedicated two years later. It sits on a 26-acre (11 ha) site overlooking the Hudson River and the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, which is just across from it in Hyde Park. The monastery dominates the view westward from the mansion grounds. In addition to the motherhouse, facilities include two guesthouses, the Monastic Church of St. Augustine, and the Monastic Enclosure. It is available for individual and group retreats. Madeleine L'Engle, author of A Wrinkle in Time, ran a retreat in conjunction with a writers' workshop every January for much of her life. The monks also sell incense, perfume and operate the Monk's Cell, a book and gift shop on the property. In keeping with the order's devotion to progressive social causes, they kept a peace vigil on Saturdays during the Iraq War.It was the first house established in the order by its founder, The Rev. James Otis Sargent Huntington. It was created 20 years after he founded The Order of the Holy Cross, after the order used interim homes in New York City and Maryland. He is buried in the church on the grounds. Today it serves as the order's house of formation, where new initiates begin their training. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

The John Hendricks House and Dutch Barn is located along Old Post Road in Staatsburg, New York. It is a late-18th-century stone house that once served as an inn along the Albany Post Road. A Dutch barn on the property also dates to that era. It underwent a number of renovations and additions in the Picturesque mode in the 19th century. The house was restored to its original appearance in the late 20th century. In 1984 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Vanderbilt Lane Historic District is a small area along the street of the same name, just east of US 9 in Hyde Park, New York, United States. It was used for the farm functions of the nearby estate of Walter Langdon and, later, Frederick Vanderbilt. Most of its buildings date to the turn of the 19th century, with one remaining from the 1830s. Many of its buildings and infrastructure remain intact. It is one of only two estate farm complexes on the east side of the Hudson that has not been razed and redeveloped. In 1993 it was recognized as a historic district and added to the National Register of Historic Places.

St. James Episcopal Church is a parish church of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, located at 4526 Albany Post Road (U.S. Route 9) in Hyde Park, New York, across the street from the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. The church is associated with Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, whose family estate is located 2.7 miles south of the church. Roosevelt served in the vestry and as senior warden of the church, even during his presidency, and he, his wife Eleanor, and their family regularly attended service there whenever they were in Hyde Park.

Riverby was the estate of the American naturalist John Burroughs (1837–1921), who wrote and created a genre of naturalist essays. It is located above the west bank of the Hudson River, in the town of West Park, in Ulster County, New York. Burroughs built the main house and a separate study, where he did much of his most influential writing. The property was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1968. It is private property, still partially held by the Burroughs family, and is not open to the public.

Poppletown Farmhouse is a historic home located at Esopus in Ulster County, New York. It is a compact, two story rectangular stone house with a side facing gable roof built about 1800.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
