All Hallows' School Buildings

All Hallows' School (AHS) is a Catholic day school for girls, located in Fortitude Valley, close to the central business district of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Founded in 1861, the school is a day school, having had a boarding school attached to it for many years. It follows in the tradition of the Irish Sisters of Mercy, and caters for more than 1,550 girls from Years five to twelve. The school was the first permanent home of the Sisters of Mercy in Queensland, and is the oldest surviving secondary school in Brisbane.All Hallows' is a member of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA), the Alliance of Girls' Schools Australia, the Australasian Mercy Secondary Schools Association, and the Catholic Secondary Schoolgirls' Sports Association.The school's motto is in French, Dieu et Devoir (English: "God and Duty"). This motto was formulated in 1911, 50 years after the school opened. The French language was chosen for the motto on the basis of the strong French influence in the school's early years.Many of the All Hallows' School Buildings have been listed on the Queensland Heritage Register.In the 2017 NAPLAN Year 9 test, All Hallows' was ranked in the top 10 Queensland secondary schools.

The Mercy Heritage Centre Brisbane was a social history museum which is now closed and will re-open in June 2019 as Adderton: house & heart of mercy.

Ann Street runs parallel to Adelaide Street and is the northernmost street in the Brisbane CBD in Queensland, Australia. The street is named for Anne, Queen of Great Britain, as part of the CBD street naming series of female British royalty. It is a major thoroughfare, linking as a four-lane one-way street the suburb of Fortitude Valley in the northeast with the Riverside Expressway in the southwest; house numbers run the opposite direction. Parks and buildings along Ann Street include the State Law Building, Central Railway Station, Brisbane City Hall, King George Square, King George Central, and also ANZAC Square and the Shrine of Remembrance (both of which commemorate Australia's and New Zealand's war dead). The now demolished Canberra Hotel (1929–1987) was located on the corner of Ann and Edward Streets. Each year, on Anzac Day (25 April), a dawn memorial service is held at the Shrine of Remembrance, with wreaths being laid around the eternal flame in memory of those who died in conflict. There is also a memorial service held each year on Armistice Day (11 November) and wreaths are again laid at the eternal flame. The shrine was dedicated on Armistice Day in 1930. King George Square busway station has entrances from King George Square and is accessible from Ann Street. Ann Street is home to several historic Brisbane churches including St John's Cathedral, Ann Street Church of Christ and St Andrew's Uniting Church. Access to some facilities of All Saints Anglican Church is from Ann Street.

Austral Motors Building is a heritage-listed former automobile showroom at 95 Boundary Street, Fortitude Valley, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Lange Leopold Powell and George Gerald Hutton and built from 1923 to 1925 by Blair Cunningham. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 11 April 2005.

Queensland Brewery Company is a heritage-listed office building and warehouse at 501 Ann Street, Fortitude Valley, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by H. S. Macdonald for the Queensland Brewery Company and built from 1940 to 1942. It is also known as Credit Union Australia Building and RACQ Building. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.

Holy Name Cathedral was a planned but never-built Roman Catholic cathedral for the city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Designed by Hennessy, Hennessy & Co, initially in an English Baroque style inspired by St Paul's in London, it was intended to have been the largest church building of any Christian denomination in the Southern Hemisphere. James Duhig, the Archbishop of Brisbane, was the chief proponent of the project. First designed in 1925, building began in 1927 and in the 1930s services were held in the crypt chapel on the site, the only part to be built. No further construction took place, and with Duhig's death in 1965 the project lost its impetus, but was not formally abandoned until the 1970s. The archdiocese sold the site to property developers in 1985, the crypt was demolished and an apartment complex was built on the site. Today the perimeter wall along Ann Street and part of Gotha Street are all that remain, and were heritage-listed in 1992.

Centenary Place is a heritage-listed park at 85 Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is also known by some as Centenary Park even though this is not the name it was given at the ceremonial dedication. It was designed by Henry Moore. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 6 August 2007.

Soleil Meriton is a luxurious residential skyscraper located at 495 Adelaide Street, Brisbane, Australia. Construction began in early 2009, with the building officially ready in 2011. At 243 metres (797 ft), it was Queensland's capital city -Brisbane's tallest building until 2013 when Infinity Tower (249 metres (817 ft)) overtook it. A 68 floor building, it contains 25 floors of serviced apartments and 43 floors of private residential apartments. In total there are 464 apartments. There is no penthouse in the building. The serviced apartments, which includes 50 apartments in the top nine levels, are owned by Meriton.It is situated on a relatively small 1,500-square-metre (16,000 sq ft) corner site with rear access from Arch Lane. The slender building houses 10 levels of carpark which required one of the biggest excavations in Brisbane's history. Retail space for cafes and restaurants is provided across three levels.The first building design for the site was rejected by the Brisbane City Council. This design was described as appalling and raised traffic congestion impacts. In late June 2008 a new design was submitted to the council and approved. The building was officially opened by former Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh and Meriton boss, Harry Triguboff on 20 September 2011 but it was completed in early 2012. Starting at the first floor tenants began moving in as floors were completed.

Skyline Apartments is a skyscraper in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia located in the CBD residential precinct known as Petrie Bight. Upon completion it was the third tallest residential building in Brisbane.The 2,631 m2 site was formerly home to the 4BC Radio Studios, and is located on the Brisbane River in close proximity to the Story Bridge. The upper levels of the tower boast spectaculars views down both reaches of the Brisbane River. The building contains 192 residential apartments, including two 2-level penthouse apartments. It is designed by Brisbane-based nettletontribe architects. Uniquely for a CBD building, the complex also includes tennis court as well as a gym, steam room and heated pool.

Chinatown is a precinct in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, Australia. It is centered on Chinatown Mall, a pedestrian street which occupies all of Duncan Street. The Mall runs parallel to Brunswick Street Mall, and connects Wickham Street and Ann Street. The precinct is the location of Chinese restaurants and shops, and is the venue for events including Chinese New Year and Valley Fiesta. Street signs in the area are written in both English and Chinese. It is also home to many restaurants offering Chinese, Korean, Indonesian, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese cuisines. Its pan-Asian nature is also emphasized through the hosting of many Asian festivals including the annual Indian festival, Diwali.Chinatown's popularity with Chinese Australians has declined in the past two decades, and Sunnybank is instead seen as the hub of Chinese culture in Brisbane.

"Democracy Manifest" (also known as "Succulent Chinese Meal", amongst other names) is an October 1991 Australian news segment video by reporter Chris Reason. The Guardian, in 2019, called it "perhaps the pre-eminent Australian meme of the past 10 years". YouTube has several postings of the video with more than a million views each. The video shows a man being arrested by Australian police at a Chinese restaurant. As the police forcibly detain him, he remarks in a loud and stentorian tone, "Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest!", "What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?", "Get your hand off my penis!", and after an aborted attempt by a police officer to headlock him, "I see that you know your judo well." The video was made on 11 October 1991, but it was not uploaded to the Internet until 2009. A mystery developed about who the man was and what the incident involved, with theories centring on Hungarian chess player Paul Charles Dozsa, known for his dine-and-dash exploits. In 2020, an Australian man, later identified as Jack Karlson, appeared in a music video by Australian punk rock band The Chats and revealed himself as the man in the now-viral 1991 video. Karlson, who had been a serial prison escapee, was arrested for credit card fraud by the Queensland Police Service.

The TC Beirne Department Store is a heritage-listed former department store at 28 Duncan Street, Fortitude Valley, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Robin Dods and built in 1902. Further extensions were made through to 1938 to the designs of Dods and Hennessey & Hennessey. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 12 December 2003.
