Alexander Hamilton High School (Brooklyn)

Paul Robeson High School for Business and Technology is a high school in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, New York City, New York. It is a part of the New York City Department of Education. The school is named for Paul Robeson, a singer and civil rights activist. Paul Robeson High School for Business and Technology was opened in the building formerly called Alexander Hamilton Technical and Vocational High School named after chief staff aide to General George Washington, one of the most influential interpreters and promoters of the U.S. Constitution, the founder of the nation's financial system as the first Secretary of the Treasury of the United States. In February 1984, Alexander Hamilton Technical and Vocational High School shut its doors. Then the school reopened in the fall of 1985 with a new name—Paul Robeson High School for Business and Technology. The school, designed by Charles Snyder in the Beaux-Arts style was originally opened in 1905 as Commercial High School and housed three murals by the artist A.J. Bogdanove: Commerce, Ancient and Modern (1918) on either side of the proscenium arch of the Auditorium (removed in 1999, restored and relocated to Tottenville High School in Staten Island) and Education (1924) in the front lobby currently draped over by a mural of Paul Robeson. The school was closed in 2011 due to failing ratings and has been reopened as Pathways to Technology High School.The controversial closure of the school in 2011 was the inspiration for a series of student protests culminating in a walkout on May 1, 2012. This led to the creation of the Paul Robeson Freedom School, co-founded by graduates of the school along with education advocates Justin Wedes and Rodney Deas.

Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) is a New York City public high school that opened in September 2011. It was developed through a partnership between IBM, City University of New York - City Tech, and the New York City Department of Education. The school focuses on post-secondary Information Technology. In grades 9-14, students undertake "hollege" - a program combining high school and two years of college. The current principal is Rashid Davis. The school is located in the same building as Paul Robeson High School, in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Interfaith Medical Center is a hospital located in Brooklyn, New York. With facilities in Crown Heights, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and Prospect Heights, it is a full-service non-profit community hospital that has 287 beds and serves more than 11,000 inpatients each year. It also has more than 200,000 outpatient visits and services and 50,000 emergency department visits annually. Interfaith is also a teaching hospital, with four graduate medical education residency programs, and fellowship programs in Pulmonary Medicine, Cardiology and Gastroenterology. Interfaith continues to serve as a safety-net hospital for its surrounding community since it emerged from bankruptcy in 2014.In addition to its main campus at 1545 Atlantic Avenue, Interfaith has other buildings which house specialists who provide care and offer community education and physician referrals to several other areas in Central Brooklyn. The largest is the Bishop Orris G. Walker, Jr. Healthcare Center, located at 528 Prospect Place and serving Prospect Heights and Crown Heights. The Bishop Orris G. Walker Center houses most outpatient specialties along with an internal medicine clinic and Atlantic Urgent Care.

The Howard Colored Orphan Asylum was one of the few orphanages to be led by and for African Americans. It was located on Troy Avenue and Dean Street in Weeksville, a historically black settlement in what is now Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York City. The asylum gradually deteriorated due to lack of funding, and closed in 1918 after an incident involving burst water pipes, which resulted in two students contracting frostbite and having their feet amputated.

Albany–Sumner Avenues was a station on the demolished BMT Fulton Street Line. It had 2 tracks and 2 side platforms. It was served by trains of the BMT Fulton Street Line. The station was opened on May 30, 1888, and had connections to the Sumner Avenue Line streetcars. Eastbound trains stopped at Albany Avenue, while westbound trains stopped at Sumner Avenue (now Marcus Garvey Boulevard). The next stop to the east was Troy Avenue. The next stop to the west was Tompkins Avenue. During 1912 and 1924, the Dual Contracts program installed a third track on the Fulton El between Nostrand Avenue and the new Hinsdale Street station. Albany-Sumner Avenues stations were closed during that time. In 1936 the Independent Subway System built an underground Fulton Street subway station at Kingston–Throop Avenues between here and the nearby Brooklyn–Tompkins Avenues Station. The el station became obsolete.

The Kingston–Throop Avenues station is a local station on the IND Fulton Street Line of the New York City Subway. Located on Fulton Street between Kingston and Throop Avenues in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, it is served by the C train at all times except nights, when the A train takes over service.

Brower Park is a municipal park in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York City. It is located between Brooklyn Avenue to the west and Kingston Avenue to the east, and between St. Marks Avenue to the north and Park Place to the south. The T-shaped park encompasses roughly 4 acres (1.6 ha) and shares a square block with the Brooklyn Children's Museum and P.S. 289 George V Brower.

The Brooklyn Children's Museum is a children's museum in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 1899, it is the first children's museum in the United States – and according to some, the first one worldwide. It is unusual in its location in what is predominantly a residential area. Housed in a multi-level underground gallery, the museum underwent an expansion and renovation to double its space, reopened on September 20, 2008, and became the first green museum in New York City.

Brooklyn Home for Consumptives (previously, Garfield Memorial Home; later, Brooklyn Thoracic Hospital and Brooklyn Hospital; currently, Brooklyn Hospital Center) was an American sanatorium located in Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 1881 as an almshouse, it was a purely benevolent and non-sectarian institution. It had two sections, one of which was attended by homoeopathic physicians and the other by allopathic practitioners, who treated the patients according to their choice. The home went through several changes before becoming the Brooklyn Hospital Center.

Shortly before midnight on September 11, 2001, Henryk Siwiak (1955–2001), a Polish immigrant, was fatally shot on a street in the Bedford–Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, where he had mistakenly gone in order to start a new job. He was able to make it to the door of a nearby house before he collapsed. The homicide remains unsolved; Siwiak has been described as "the last person killed in New York on 9/11", although his death was unrelated to the terror attacks earlier that day.The initial investigation into the crime may have been hampered, police believe, by the diversion of law enforcement resources in the city in the wake of that day's terrorist attacks, which ultimately killed almost 3,000 people. Since Siwiak was not robbed, wore camouflage clothing and spoke poor English with a heavy accent, detectives have speculated that his killer may have thought he had something to do with the attacks. Siwiak's homicide is the only one recorded in New York City on September 11, 2001, since the city does not include the deaths from the attacks in its official crime statistics.

Chevra Ahavas Yisroel (Hebrew: חברה אהבת ישראל), abbreviated as CAY, is an Orthodox Jewish congregation and synagogue located at 306 Albany Avenue, Crown Heights, in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, in the United States. The congregation is associated with the Chabad Hasidic movement.

The Church of Our Lady of Victory is a Black Catholic parish in the Diocese of Brooklyn, located at Throop Avenue and Macdonough Street in New York. The parish was established in 1868.
