Loch Slin Castle

Lochslin (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Slinn) is a small hamlet, situated northeast of the fresh water loch, Loch Eye in Tain, Ross-shire, Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland. Originally a loch that dried up, the loch survives in name only. Close to the village is the ancient ruin of Lochslin Castle.

Inver is a small village located on the south east shore of the Inver Bay at the point where the bay opens out into the Dornoch Firth and is in Ross-shire, Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland. Morrich More, the spit of the land to the North-West of Inver, is a military aerial range, with the village being included in the range airspace.

Loch Eye is a shallow freshwater loch, located close to the east coast of Scotland between the Moray Firth, Dornoch Firth and Cromarty Firth. Covering an area of 205 hectares, it is an important site for waterfowl and has been protected since 1986 as a Ramsar Site, a Special Protection Area and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.Loch Eye is nutrient rich, and one of the most important eutrophic lochs north of the Highland boundary fault. It supports internationally important over-wintering populations of waterfowl, in particular whooper swans and Icelandic greylag geese.

Tain Air Weapons Range is a Ministry of Defence air weapons range on the Dornoch Firth near Tain in Scotland. Royal Air Force aircrews from RAF Lossiemouth are trained in air weaponry on the range, along with NATO aircrew.It was previously known as Royal Air Force Tain and Royal Naval Air Station Tain.

Morrich More is an extensive area of dune grassland with wetland communities, on the southern shore of the Dornoch Firth, Scotland. Morrich More lies east of Tain, on the southern shore of the Dornoch Firth, Scotland. Offshore lie extensive areas of intertidal sandflat, including the tidal island of Innis Mhòr and the sand spit Paterson Island (Scottish Gaelic: Innis Bheag) which provide shelter. The area includes the most extensive area (260 hectares (1.0 sq mi)) of salt marsh in the Highlands.

Arboll (Scottish Gaelic: Àrbol) is a place in the parish of Tarbat, Easter Ross, Highland, northern Scotland made up of several scattered farms. It is situated about 10 km (6.2 mi) to the east of Tain and a short distance inland from Dornoch Firth.

Innis Mhòr is a tidal island in the Dornoch Firth of Easter Ross off the east coast of Scotland. It is about 26 hectares (64 acres) in extent and is largely, if not exclusively made up of moving sand dunes. No point on the island is greater than 5 metres (16 ft) above sea level. It has almost certainly never been permanently inhabited. The nearest settlement is Inver to the south, (which is 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) west of Portmahomack) and the town of Tain is 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) to the east. Scotland's north and west coasts have over 700 islands all told. Innis Mhòr is one of the few east coast islands, only 4 of which exceed 20 hectares (49 acres) in size.The extensive tidal Whiteness Sands lie between Innis Mhòr and the Easter Ross coast, with the headland of Rubh' na h-Innse Moire lying to the west of the island. Inland there is the Morrich More, an extensive area of dune grassland with wetland communities, and a grade 1 SSSI, and RAF Tain, a bombing range on an alluvial plain known as the Fendom. The area includes the most extensive area (260 hectares (1.0 sq mi)) of salt marsh in the Highlands. The island is part of the Dornoch Firth National Scenic Area, one of 40 in Scotland.Local birdlife includes important populations of osprey (10 pairs representing about 10% of the UK breeding population), bar-tailed godwit, greylag goose and wigeon and numerous more common species such as curlew, dunlin, oystercatcher and teal.There are no other islands nearby, although a sandy spit to the south is marked as Innis Bheag (meaning "small island") on some maps and is also referred to as Paterson Island.

Fearn railway station is a railway station serving the village of Hill of Fearn in the Highland council area of Scotland, located around 1.3 miles (2.1 km) from the village. It is situated on the Far North Line, 40 miles 60 chains (65.6 km) form Inverness, between Tain and Invergordon, and is also the nearest station to Balintore, Hilton and Shandwick (the Seaboard Villages), Portmahomack and the Nigg Bay area of Easter Ross. ScotRail, who manage the station, operate all services.

Embo (Scottish Gaelic: Eurabol, IPA:[ˈiaɾəpɔɫ̪]) is a village in the Highland Council Area in Scotland and the former postal county of Sutherland, about two miles (three kilometres) north-northeast of Dornoch. On 16 July 1988, Embo declared itself independent from the rest of the United Kingdom for one day. The prime minister was Mr. Donald Ward. This was done to raise funds to convert the unused primary school in the village into a community centre. The village issued its own currency, called the Cuddie. The rate of exchange was two Cuddies to the pound. Cuddies were accepted in the local public house, Grannies Heilan' Hame, in exchange for a measure of Clynelish Malt Whisky. The owners of the distillery, in nearby Brora, sponsored the bid for independence by issuing a commemorative label on 50 cases of Clynelish Malt Whisky – "The Spirit of Free Embo".The Battle of Embo took place in 1245 between Scots and Vikings.Bronze Age remains were excavated to the south of the village in 1956, other burials having previously been discovered in the area. The school in Embo was designed by William Fowler in 1859.Nancy Dorian's research of the local East Sutherland Gaelic dialect showed that in 1964, over 100 of the village's total population of fewer than 300 still actively spoke Gaelic, and that many more had a "smattering" or were perfect passive bilinguals. This percentage even briefly increased during the 1970s with "returners" to the village. Until the end of the 1970s at least, Embo was a bilingual Gaelic and English speaking community. Brora and Golspie had much smaller percentages of Gaelic speakers at that time. As with the entire region of East Sutherland, the end of the 19th century and the collapse of the fishing industry coincided with the decline of Gaelic as the majority language of the people. Embo is informally "twinned" with Kaunakakai on the island of Molokai in Hawaii.Coul Links, an area of sand dunes protected as part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), lies to the north of the village. As of February 2019 a company led by American Todd Warnock is proposing to build a golf course on the links; the Scottish Government has referred the proposal to a planning inquiry, which will determine whether the development is to be permitted.

Tain railway station is an unstaffed railway station serving the area of Tain in the Highland council area of Scotland. The station is on the Far North Line, 44 miles 23 chains (71.3 km) from Inverness, between Fearn and Ardgay. ScotRail, who manage the station, operate all services.

Royal Dornoch Golf Club is a golf club in Dornoch, Sutherland, Scotland. It is generally referred to as Royal Dornoch. The club has two 18-hole courses: the Championship Course and the Struie Course. The older Championship Course is a links course located on the Dornoch Firth. Royal Dornoch has never hosted any of the modern professional tournaments. The British Amateur Championship was held there in 1985 and the Scottish Amateur in 1993, 2000, and 2012. The Women's and Men's Senior Amateur championships will be held at Royal Dornoch in 2022. The Championship Course was ranked No. 3 on the 2007 Golf Digest list of Top 100 International (outside U.S.) courses. David Brice, of Golf International, called it the "king of Scottish links courses".The internationally renowned Championship Course at Royal Dornoch Golf Club was named No. 1 in the world by the online golf reservation service golfscape.

The Tain & District Museum is located in Tain, Ross-shire, Scotland. It is volunteer-run and is open April to October part of the Tain Through Time visitor centre. The museum was established in 1966 and has a collection of silver made in the local area.
