Southwold Earthworks

RCAF Station Fingal was a Second World War British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) air station located near Fingal, Ontario, Canada. It was operated and administered by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Fingal hosted No. 4 Bomber and Gunnery School (No. 4 B&GS), which trained bomb aimers and air gunners. The school opened on 25 November 1940 and closed 17 February 1945. Aircraft used included the Fairey Battle, Northrop Nomad, Westland Lysander, Bristol Bolingbroke and Avro Anson. When 4 B&GS closed, its fleet of aircraft consisted of 34 Avro Anson Mark I, 29 Bristol Bolingbroke Mark IVT, and 1 North American Harvard II. Bombing ranges were located near Melbourne, Frome, Tempo, and Dutton. A bombing range was also located on Lake Erie. A marine unit was based in Port Stanley. The area is now a wildlife preserve called the "Fingal Wildlife Management Area". Wildlife habitat has been restored and area has been set aside for agricultural demonstration purposes. Interpretive trails with signage have been installed.

Port Talbot was the name of a community located west of Port Stanley, about one hour's drive south from London, Ontario, Canada, where Talbot Creek flows into Lake Erie. The village was the original commercial nucleus for the settlement which developed on 5,000 acres (20 km2) of land granted to Thomas Talbot in 1800 by the Crown along the northwestern shore of Lake Erie. The settlement was one of the most prosperous of its time in Upper Canada, noted for its good roads, with Talbot keeping out land speculators and securing hard-working settlers. Talbot's authoritarian control of the settlers led to conflicts with the Executive Council of Upper Canada and a reduction in his powers. As a result of invading American forces during the War of 1812, the community was burned in 1814 in a series of raids and was never rebuilt. The site was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1923.

Iona is an unincorporated area in Dunwich County, Elgin County, Ontario, Canada.

Talbot Creek is a watercourse in Elgin County, Ontario, Canada, that drains into Lake Erie. It was first settled in 1803.

Iona Station is a hamlet located on the border of Dutton-Dunwich and Southwold townships, in Elgin County, Ontario, Canada. The "station" in the name was on the Canada Southern Railroad owned by the Michigan Central Railroad, later by the New York Central Railroad. The Canadian economist John Kenneth Galbraith (1908–2006) was born in Iona Station.The Iona Station General store (which is closed now) was operated by D.J. McBride and was taken over by his son, Arthur. At the same time a blacksmith shop on the east side of the townline was operated by Harold "Boots" Dundas. During the early years, the children of the community went to S.S.#6 Dunwich – a one-room school house, located on the southwest corner of Shakleton Road and Iona Line. The school house has since been demolished and replaced by a private residence. The farmhouse and barn of Wayne Kellestine, convicted in the 2006 Shedden Massacre, is located nearby.

Fingal is a small community near the north shore of Lake Erie 12 km southwest of St. Thomas, Ontario, located within the township of Southwold in Elgin County. Located in Fingal is the historic RCAF Station Fingal, which was a major centre for air force training during World War II. Now named the Fingal Wildlife Management Area its 724 acres are now a protected natural area. The Southwold Township office and the Fingal Presbyterian Church are also located in Fingal, as well as the local businesses; Stan's Total Tire, Summit Food Distribution, Fingal Farm Supply Ltd and Advantage Farm Equipment. Fingal, Ontario is well known for its world-class Holstein breeding programs. The community was named for Fingal, a county formed from within County Dublin in Ireland.

Dutton/Dunwich is a municipality located in western Elgin County in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. The municipality was formed in 1998 through an amalgamation of the Village of Dutton and former Township of Dunwich. It includes the Hamlets of Wallacetown, Duttona Beach, and the western parts of both Iona and Iona Station. It is bisected both by Highway 401 and by the rail lines of the Penn Central Railroad and the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway.Dutton/Dunwich has a large farming community involving a variety of agricultural methods. The region is primarily made up of inhabitants of English ancestry, with minorities of Scottish, Portuguese, and Dutch heritage.

Dutton is a community in the Township of Dutton/Dunwich, Elgin County, Ontario, Canada. Dutton is located 30 kilometres (19 mi) southwest of St. Thomas. Originally part of Dunwich Township, Dutton was originally called Bennettville, then Lisgar. When the Canada Southern Railway was built in 1872, the station was named Dutton Station after the railway's civil engineer. It was shortened to Dutton in 1881 and incorporated as a separate municipality a few years later. In 1998, as part of county-wide municipal restructuring, the Village of Dutton was reamalgamated with Dunwich to form Dutton-Dunwich.

The Green Lane landfill is a landfill in Southwold, Ontario, Canada, southwest of London. It is owned and operated by the City of Toronto as Toronto’s main landfill, located 200 kilometres (120 mi) west of the city. It operates a leachate collection system and an on-site leachate treatment plant. Green Lane also has an extensive landfill gas collection system. This gas is roughly 50 percent methane and 50 percent carbon dioxide, along with traces of other gases. The gas is collected and directed to the flaring system that allows for release into the air.

Kettle Creek is a creek in Elgin County in southwestern Ontario, Canada that empties into Lake Erie at Port Stanley. It drains an area of 520 square kilometres (200 sq mi). Dodd Creek is the major tributary.Kettle Creek flows through parts of London, Ontario and St. Thomas, Ontario. Most of the watershed is used for agriculture. During dry summers, water shortages can be experienced. Kettle Creek adds a significant amount of phosphorus to Lake Erie.Some of Ontario's rare remaining stands of Carolinian Forest are in the Kettle Creek watershed.
