Chatham High School (New Jersey)

Chatham Township High School (CTHS) was a public high school that existed from 1962 through 1988, located on Lafayette Avenue in Chatham Township, in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. CTHS had as its mascot the Gladiator. The school became defunct when the township and Chatham Borough merged their independent school systems to create the School District of the Chathams. The current Chatham High School shared by both municipalities occupies the building that had been used by Chatham Township High School. Voters in Chatham Township approved the building of a high school in September 1960, with a referendum to spend $1,750,000 in a bond offering passing by a 4-1 margin and completion expected in time for the 1962–63 school year.The school, which opened to students in September 1962 for grades seven through nine under the supervision of principal Benjamin Diest, was formally dedicated in December of that year.

The Mount Vernon School, also known as the Chatham Red Brick Schoolhouse, is a historic school building located at 24 Southern Boulevard in the Long Hill section of Chatham Township in Morris County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 7, 2022, for its significance in education, politics/government, and social history from 1860 to 1970.

Saint Patrick School is a Catholic school that was founded in 1872 in Chatham, New Jersey to serve students of the Roman Catholic parish of Saint Patrick Church with pre-kindergarten through eighth grade education. The school is operated under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paterson. Following the recent founding of Corpus Christi Church in Chatham Township the students of that parish also are served, having been served previously within the parish of Saint Patrick (prior to the establishment of the new parish). In 2009, the school was re-accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. As of the 2009-10 school year, the school had an enrollment of 368 students and 31.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 13:1.

Chatham is a railway station in Chatham, New Jersey. A commuter rail station, Chatham receives rail service from statewide provider NJ Transit on its Morristown Line, a branch of the Morris & Essex Lines. Trains on the Morristown Line go to both Hoboken Terminal and New York Penn Station.

Chatham Borough is a borough in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 9,212, an increase of 250 (+2.8%) from the 2010 census count of 8,962, which in turn reflected an increase of 502 (+5.9%) from the 8,460 counted in the 2000 census.The area that is now Chatham has been inhabited by humans for thousands of years. During historic times, Europeans began trading with the Native Americans who farmed, fished, and hunted in the area when it was claimed as part of New Netherlands. The community that now is Chatham was first settled by Europeans in 1710 within Morris Township, in what was then the English Province of New Jersey. The community was settled because the site already was on the path of a well-worn Native American trail, the location of an important crossing of the Passaic River, and being close to a gap in the Watchung Mountains. The residents of the English community changed its name from John Day's Bridge to Chatham, New Jersey in 1773.Chatham's residents were active participants in the American Revolutionary War, which ended in 1783. Chatham Township was formed as a local government in the new state of New Jersey on February 12, 1806, taking its name from this pre-revolutionary village. Initial local government forms were limited while the new state government evolved. The new township governed the village of Chatham that lay within the present-day borough boundaries, along with several other pre-revolutionary, colonial villages and large areas of unsettled lands connecting or adjacent to them. On August 19, 1892, Chatham adopted a new village form of government when it became allowed within townships in the state after the revolution. Shortly thereafter, once it was allowed, the village of Chatham reincorporated for governance as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 1, 1897, returning to complete independence from the surrounding Chatham Township.An early railroad located along the Morris and Essex Lines that had become well established by the start of the Civil War as one of America's first commuter railroads, had a stop at Chatham, which attracted many from nearby Manhattan, 20 miles to the east. It remains a commuter town for residents who work in New York City. Today, Chatham is a pedestrian-friendly community that covers less than 2.5 square miles (6.5 km2), including a central business district and railroad station within approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) from its farthest boundary. The borough is situated in southeastern Morris County bordering both Essex and Union counties along the Passaic River. Northeast of the borough is the upscale Mall at Short Hills located in the Short Hills section of Millburn. In July 2005, CNN/Money and Money magazine ranked Chatham ninth on its annual list of the 100 Best Places to Live in the United States. New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Chatham as its 25th best place to live in its 2008 rankings of the "Best Places To Live" in New Jersey. In 2012, Forbes.com listed Chatham as 375th in its listing of "America's Most Expensive ZIP Codes", with a median home price of $776,703.The borough has been ranked as one of the state's highest-income communities. In March 2018, Bloomberg ranked Chatham as the 64th highest-income place in the United States and as having the 8th-highest income in New Jersey. In the 2013–2017 American Community Survey (ACS) the borough had a median household income of $163,026, ranking 16th in the state. The 2014–2018 ACS showed a median household income of $169,524 in the borough versus $111,316 in the county and $79,363 statewide.

"The Chathams" (CHAT-əm) is a term used in reference to shared services for two neighboring municipalities in Morris County, New Jersey, United States – Chatham Borough and Chatham Township. The two are separate municipalities. The first, a town that was settled in 1710 as a colonial English village in the Province of New Jersey, that in 1773 adopted a name change to "Chatham". There are numerous references to this village as "Chatham, New Jersey" dating from that time. The second, more southern, without a town center, and less densely populated, is the vestige of a regional government that was formed in 1806 as a township, a form of municipal government peculiar to the state of New Jersey. It had jurisdiction over a region including a large area of open space and several villages. One of those, the village of Chatham, dating from 1710, was the source for its name, Chatham Township. Chatham Township shares various joint public services with Chatham Borough: the school district, the library, the municipal court, the medical emergency squad, and recreation program. The New Providence School District is a comprehensive community public school district serving students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade in New Providence in Union County, New Jersey, United States. Students from the unincorporated community of Murray Hill within the borough attend the New Providence school facilities. As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprised of four schools, had an enrollment of 2,420 students and 183.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.2:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

The Dusenberry House is a mid-19th century building located on Main Street in Chatham Borough, Morris County, New Jersey, United States. It is sometimes known as the Presbyterian Parsonage, since it most notable as the home of the Rev. Joseph Meeker Ogden, pastor for 45 years of the Presbyterian church in the town currently named after him. It was also the birthplace of his son, Joseph Wallace Ogden, who founded the brokerage firm J. W. Ogden & Company. In 1979 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is currently used as a store.

The Rolling Knolls Landfill is a landfill located in the Green Village section of Chatham Township in New Jersey. It is bordered on two sides by the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, and was formerly known as Miele's Dump, after owner Robert Miele. The Landfill is notable for being identified by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Superfund site. It was operated as a municipal landfill from the early 1930s until December 1968, during which time it handled municipal solid waste, as well as construction and demolition debris from neighboring communities."According to the EPA's Web site, soil samples collected in 1999 showed levels of metals, phthalates, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) that were above regulation norms. Mercury and PCB releases were also observed in a surface water and sediment sample taken from a portion of the landfill located within the Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge, according to the EPA. Testing also showed "actual contamination of a terrestrial sensitive environment," and indicated potential exposure of nearby residents, the EPA says.

New Providence is a New Jersey Transit station in New Providence, New Jersey along the Gladstone Branch of the Morris and Essex line. The original 1899 station, built by the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad still stands. New Providence station is located across from the intersection of Old Springfield Avenue and Division Avenue. Springfield Avenue was rerouted north of the station in 1931. The former segment of Springfield Avenue on the opposite side of the tracks has been turned into an additional parking lot. The station was originally named West Summit until March 1927, as the borough of New Providence felt there was confusion for not being on railroad timetables. The station was renamed over the opposition of Summit residents.

Madison Masonic Temple is the name of a historic Masonic lodge building. The building, also known as the Old Main Street Church, is located in Madison, Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The building was built in 1824 as the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township, and was purchased by Madison Lodge #93 in 1930. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 17, 2008.
