Chatham Township is a suburban township located in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 10,983, its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 531 (+5.1%) from the 10,452 recorded at the 2010 census, which in turn had reflected an increase of 366 (+3.6%) from the 10,086 counted at the 2000 census. The long-established hamlet of Green Village (also within Harding Township) is located in Chatham Township. The presence of the Chatham station along the Morris and Essex Lines in neighboring Chatham Borough proved a vital role in population increases in Chatham Township, which began to be developed for residential use due to its easy commute to nearby Manhattan.New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Chatham Township first in the state in its 2008 rankings of the "Best Places to Live" in New Jersey.The township has been one of the state's highest-income communities. Based on data from the 2013–2017 American Community Survey, township residents had a median household income of $176,364, ranked 3rd in the state among municipalities with more than 10,000 residents, more than double the statewide median of $76,475. In March 2018, Bloomberg ranked Chatham as the 64th highest-income place in the United States and as having the 8th-highest income in New Jersey.In 2012, Forbes.com listed Chatham as 375th in its listing of "America's Most Expensive ZIP Codes", with a median home price of $776,703.

The Mount Vernon School, also known as the Chatham Red Brick Schoolhouse, is a historic school building located at 24 Southern Boulevard in the Long Hill section of Chatham Township in Morris County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 7, 2022, for its significance in education, politics/government, and social history from 1860 to 1970.

New Providence High School is a comprehensive public high school in the borough of New Providence, in Union County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as the lone secondary school in the New Providence School District, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades. New Providence High School opened on September 8, 1958, with its first graduating class on June 23, 1960. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1965 and received probationary accreditation in 2012. The school opened on September 8, 1958, and had its first graduating class of seniors in June 1960.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 657 students and 61.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.7:1. The Summit Speech School is a year-round educational institution based in New Providence, Union County, New Jersey, United States, which assists children in northern and central New Jersey who have difficulty hearing. The school uses an approach which has been described variously as an oral-option or auditory-oral or auditory-aural method, in the sense that the program helps children "to listen and talk without the use of sign language". The school receives funding from various sources, including the Junior League of Summit and the State of New Jersey. It hosts benefits to raise funds. According to a report in 2010, fund-raising is on-going and ranges from $800,000 to $1 million a year. It has been assisted in the past by volunteers. An introduction to music had been provided by renowned educator Capitola Dickerson for thirty years.

As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 13,650, an increase of 1,479 (+12.2%) from the 2010 census count of 12,171, which in turn reflected increase of 264 (+2.2%) from the 11,907 counted in the 2000 census.The borough is home to much of the Murray Hill neighborhood with the remainder lying in neighboring Berkeley Heights. Service on the NJ Transit is available at the New Providence and Murray Hill stations. More than 9% of New Providence's land is publicly-owned and protected parkland.

The school is accredited by the New Jersey Department of Education.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,266 students and 105.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.1:1. There were 13 students (1.0% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 4 (0.3% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Chatham Township High School (CTHS) was a public high school that existed from 1962 through 1988, located on Lafayette Avenue in Chatham Township, in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. CTHS had as its mascot the Gladiator. The school became defunct when the township and Chatham Borough merged their independent school systems to create the School District of the Chathams. The current Chatham High School shared by both municipalities occupies the building that had been used by Chatham Township High School. Voters in Chatham Township approved the building of a high school in September 1960, with a referendum to spend $1,750,000 in a bond offering passing by a 4-1 margin and completion expected in time for the 1962–63 school year.The school, which opened to students in September 1962 for grades seven through nine under the supervision of principal Benjamin Diest, was formally dedicated in December of that year.

The Nathaniel Smith House is located in Berkeley Heights, Union County, New Jersey, United States. The Colonial home was built c. 1740 and added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 28, 1989.Frederick and Lois Best owned and restored the house from 1945 to 1995. It remains a private home today.

Murray Hill is a New Jersey Transit station along the Gladstone Branch of the Morris and Essex Lines in the Murray Hill section of New Providence, in Union County, New Jersey, United States. It is located on Foley Place, between Floral Avenue and Southgate Road.

Passaic River Parkway, often called Passaic River Park, is a linear park along the banks of the Passaic River in Union County, New Jersey. It is one of the three "emerald necklaces" in the Union County Park System, the others being Rahway River Parkway and Elizabeth River Parkway.The parkland comprises 298 non-contiguous acres along the river (travelling downstream) in Berkeley Heights, New Providence, and Summit. Plans for a park were conceived as early as 1909. The Parkway was conceived in the 1920s when the county park system was being developed, following the design of the Olmsted Brothers, sons of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. Much of the land along the Passaic was acquired in the 1960s. The Passaic River Parkway lies in the valley of the Passaic River (the drainage basin of Second Watchung Mountain) in northwestern Union County, where the river creates the borders with Somerset and Morris Counties. There are also parks and nature areas in the riparian floodplain across the river in Watchung, Warren Township, Long Hill Township and Chatham. The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is just west of the river. Many of the crossings of the river in the park are late 19th century or early 20th century bridges.
