Bennett House (Franklin, Tennessee)

Winstead House is a historic Italianate house in Franklin, Tennessee built c.1870 that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 together with 3.7 acres (1.5 ha) of land. It is also a contributing property in the Franklin Historic District. It was built by William O'Neal Perkins on the foundation of a former house, the McNutt House, which burned c.1865. Perkins used brick and stone materials from a building on the court square, Public Office, which he had bought and demolished. It is a two-story, five bay house. Its foundation, water table, and quoins are stone; the brick walls are laid in American common bond. It has a massive ornate cornice supported by heavy paired brackets.It was owned by Asa Hickman Jewell, II and his wife, Margaret Loring Jewell. It is now the administration building for the O'More College of Design.

O’More College of Design was a private college in Franklin, Tennessee. In February 2018, it merged with Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee to become the O'More School of Design at Belmont University. Information regarding the programs that were a part of the O'More College of Design can be found here: www.belmont.edu/design It was founded as O'More School of Interior Architecture and Design in 1970 in the historic district of Franklin. It awarded the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Graphic Design, and Interior Design. It had an enrollment of about 200 students and was accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.

The Williamson County Courthouse in Franklin, Tennessee is a historic courthouse. It is a contributing building in the Franklin Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The courthouse was built in 1858 and is the third one to serve the county. It is Greek Revival in style and 65 by 90 feet (20 m × 27 m) in plan. Its portico has four Doric columns which were cast at a nearby foundry.It was damaged in an 1871 tornado but was restored.In 1888, a 23-year-old African-American suspect, Amos Miller, was lynched: hanged from the balcony of the courthouse after being taken by a mob from the courtroom before his trial was completed. On the grounds of the courthouse is a Confederate Monument, which is separately listed on the National Register. A statue, March to Freedom was also installed outside.

Franklin Historic District is a historic district in Franklin, Tennessee that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. It was created to preserve historic commercial and residential architecture in a 16-block area of the original, downtown Franklin around the north, west, and south of the town square.: 8 The 140-acre (57 ha) area of the 1972-listed district includes two properties separately listed on the National Register, Winstead House and the Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 7 (which is also a U.S. National Historic Landmark). Architectural styles include Gothic Revival and Federal. When listed, the district included 211 contributing buildings and 65 non-contributing buildings, on an area of 140 acres (57 ha).The boundaries of the district were increased in 1988 to add a 5.2-acre (2.1 ha) area. The increased area included 12 contributing buildings, one contributing structure and four non-contributing buildings, in architectural styles including Greek Revival, Italianate, and T-plan. The district was further increased in 2000 to add a 2.6-acre (1.1 ha) area including Queen Anne and Colonial Revival architecture. This increase included nine contributing buildings and two non-contributing buildings.It includes the Williamson County Courthouse.The Franklin historic district is one of five National Register historic districts in the city of Franklin. Four of these, including the Franklin historic district, are also designated as local historic districts by city ordinance, making them subject to design review. Franklin has seven local historic districts.The first increase added a one-block area which includes 12 houses.The second increase added nine contributing buildings.

The Confederate Monument, also known as Chip, or Our Confederate Soldiers, is located on the grounds of the Williamson County Courthouse in the county seat - Franklin, Tennessee, United States. Installed in 1899, it is an Italian marble statue portraying a single Confederate soldier atop a tall column and base. The Battle of Franklin took place here during the American Civil War, and was won by the Union.

The Masonic Hall of Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 7 is a historic Gothic revival building on South 2nd Avenue in Franklin, Tennessee. Constructed in 1823, it is the oldest public building in Franklin. It is nationally significant as the site of negotiations leading to the Treaty of Franklin, the first Indian removal treaty agreed after passage of the 1830 Indian Removal Act. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1973. It continues to serve the local Masonic lodge.

Lewisburg Avenue Historic District is a 28-acre (11 ha) historic district in Franklin, Tennessee that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 . It includes Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals, Bungalow/Craftsman, and Late Victorian architecture.When listed, the district included 34 contributing buildings and three contributing structures. Also included were six non-contributing buildings, one non-contributing structure,.The property was covered in a 1988 study of Williamson County historical resources.

The Rainey House is a one-and-a-half-story brick home in Franklin, Tennessee that dates from 1839. It was built in the original 15 blocks of the city of Franklin and was standing during the American Civil War Battle of Franklin. Like many structures standing at the time, it was used as a field hospital during and after the battle. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. The house is listed as being one of the least-altered historic properties in Franklin. It was originally built by Robert Rainey who operated a store across the street from the City of Franklin Railroad Depot. While the depot is no longer in service, the train line across the street from the house is still active. It has also been known as The Bob Rainey House.A bridge across the Harpeth River located on the other side of the railroad tracks from the house leads to Pinkerton Park where there is a short hike up to Fort Granger, a Union Fort used during the Civil War. When listed the property included two contributing buildings on an area of 9.9 acres (4.0 ha).The house has Greek Revival details.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church is a historic church in Franklin, Tennessee, that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. In 1988, a National Register study of Williamson County historical resources described it as "one of the finest remaining" Gothic Revival style churches in middle Tennessee. The building was completed in 1834. It is included in the Hincheyville Historic District, also listed on the National Register. St. Paul's is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee, in fact the diocese's (and state's) oldest congregation.

The Lotz House (Lotz rhymes with “boats") is a two-story frame house built in 1858 in the central Tennessee town of Franklin. The house is significant for being in the epicenter of the Battle of Franklin in the American Civil War in 1864.

The Second Battle of Franklin was fought on November 30, 1864, in Franklin, Tennessee, as part of the Franklin–Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War. It was one of the worst disasters of the war for the Confederate States Army. Confederate Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood's Army of Tennessee conducted numerous frontal assaults against fortified positions occupied by the Union forces under Maj. Gen. John Schofield and was unable to prevent Schofield from executing a planned, orderly withdrawal to Nashville. The Confederate assault of six infantry divisions containing eighteen brigades with 100 regiments numbering almost 20,000 men, sometimes called the "Pickett's Charge of the West", resulted in devastating losses to the men and the leadership of the Army of Tennessee—fourteen Confederate generals (six killed, seven wounded, and one captured) and 55 regimental commanders were casualties. After its defeat against Maj. Gen. George H. Thomas in the subsequent Battle of Nashville, the Army of Tennessee retreated with barely half the men with which it had begun the short offensive, and was effectively destroyed as a fighting force for the remainder of the war. The 1864 Battle of Franklin was the second military action in the vicinity; a battle in 1863 was a minor action associated with a reconnaissance in force by Confederate cavalry leader Maj. Gen. Earl Van Dorn on April 10.
