Krasny Bor transmitter is a large facility for longwave, mediumwave and shortwave broadcasting at Krasny Bor near Saint Petersburg, Russia. Krasny Bor transmitter was established in 1961 and belongs to the most powerful broadcasting stations in the world. It uses four mast radiators and several shortwave antennas. The tallest of these mast radiators is a 271.5 metres high guyed mast, which is equipped with a cage antenna and used for longwave broadcasting. It was built in 2002 as replacement for a 257.5 metres tall guyed mast, destroyed at a helicopter collision, which killed 6 people, on November 5, 2001. Further, there is a 257 metres tall mast radiator, which is insulated against ground and equipped with a cage antenna for medium wave broadcasting, a 106 metres tall steel tube mast radiator carrying several cage antennas in multiple levels and a 93 metres tall guyed mast radiator. Broadcasting from Krasny Bor was discontinued on January 1, 2013.

The Battle of Krasny Bor was part of the Soviet offensive Operation Polyarnaya Zvezda in the Eastern Front of World War II. It called for a pincer attack near Leningrad to build on the success of Operation Iskra and completely lift the siege of Leningrad, in the process encircling a substantial part of the German 18th Army. The offensive near the town of Krasny Bor formed the western arm of the pincer. The Soviet offensive began on Wednesday, 10 February 1943, and produced noticeable gains on the first day but rapidly became a stalemate. The strong defense by the Spanish Blue Division and the German SS Polizei Division gave the German forces time to reinforce their positions. By February 13, the Soviet forces had ceased their offensive in this sector.

The Tosna (Russian: То́сна) is a northward river in Luzhsky, Tosnensky, and Kirovsky Districts of Leningrad Oblast, Russia, as well as in the city of Saint Petersburg. It is a left tributary of the Neva. The towns of Tosno, Nikolskoye, and Otradnoye, as well as the urban-type settlement of Ulyanovka are along it. Its length is 121 kilometres (75 mi). Its drainage basin covers 1,640 square kilometres (630 sq mi) which mainly has northward flowing streams. Its main tributary is the Yeglinka which is on the left bank.The source is in swamps south of the settlement of Radofinnikovo. The river flows north, enters Tosnensky District, passes the town of Tosno, and essentially enters the suburbs of Saint Petersburg. There, it flows through Ulyanovka and Nikolskoye. In this area, limestone rocks occasionally form the banks. In particular, Sablinskiye Caves, disused quarries, are by the river. A stretch of Tosna between Nikolskoye and Otradnoye serves as a border between the city of Saint Petersburg (west) and Leningrad Oblast (east). The mouth/confluence abuts the west of Otradnoye, a town.

Imeni Sverdlova (Russian: и́мени Свердло́ва) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Vsevolozhsky District of Leningrad Oblast, Russia, located on the right bank of the Neva River, southeast of the center of Saint Petersburg and opposite to Ust-Izhora. Telmana (Russian: Тельмана) is a rural locality (a logging depot settlement) in Tosnensky District of Leningrad Oblast, Russia, located almost adjacent to the municipal city of Kolpino on the territory of the federal city of St. Petersburg. Population: 8,757 (2010 Census); 5,807 (2002 Census).With the expansion of Kolpino, Kolpino buildings are increasingly pushing into the borders of Telmana.

Kolpino railway station (Russian: станция Колпино) is a railway station located in self-named city, Kolpinsky District of Saint Petersburg, Russia. It is 24 km down-line from Moskovsky railway station and is situated between Sankt-Peterburg-Moskovsky-Sortirovochny (Obukhovo team tracks) and Sablino on the Saint Petersburg — Moscow line. The station hosts suburban trains from Saint-Petersburg, Malaya Vishera, Shapki and Veliky Novgorod. Electric trains Lastochka ES1, ED4M, ET2M and ER2T make a passenger trips from Kolpino. Long-distance trains have not stop at Kolpino station. The station is approximately 1,2 km from the town center.

The Middle Neva Shipbuilding Plant (Russian: Средне-Невский судостроительный завод, romanized: Sredne-Nevskiy sudostroitelnyy zavod) was founded before the end of the 19th century in Saint Petersburg, Russia. In 1917 it employed 17,000 people. It established a branch in Nikolaev in the early years of the 20th century to assemble ships which had been built in St. Petersburg and transported to the Black Sea. It is part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation.
