Calvià Vila

Calvià (locally [kəlviˈa]) is a municipality on the island of Majorca, part of the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. It is located in the southwestern part of the island of Majorca, between the Serra de Tramuntana and the Serra de Na Burguesa. The municipal seat is the town of Calvià Vila.Calvià has an approximate area of 145 km2 (56 sq mi). It is bordered on the north by the municipalities of Puigpunyent and Estellencs, Palma de Mallorca (Palma), the island's capital to the east, Andratx to the west and to the south by the Mediterranean Sea. According to the 2008 census, the municipality had a population of 50,777 inhabitants, of whom 18,046 were foreigners. Today, it is the second most populated area of the entire archipelago Balearic after Palma, and also an area that has the largest number of tourists in the islands. Its population is scattered around the different urban centers created as a result of tourism development and twentieth century urbanization. The historical epic that marked the most important local culture and traditions regarding the rest of Mallorca is the landing in Santa Ponça on 10 September 1229 of King James I of Aragon, and the subsequent conquering of Muslims who had invaded in the year 903. Since 1248, Calvià has had its own parochial church, Sante Ihoannes Caviano. Despite the popularity and use of the official shield locally, the municipality has no flag.

Es Capdellà (translation from Catalan: "at the end of there") is a village in the municipality of Calvià on the island of Majorca, part of the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. Situated on the hill known as the Puig de sa crane at 115 m (377 ft) above sea level, it has an area of 71.81 hectares. The closest neighboring villages are Galilee and Andratx. Es Capdellà is a residential area of various nationalities (about 80 by the year 2009). It has a population of approximately 1,000 inhabitants.

Galatzó is a settlement in the municipality of Calvià on the island of Majorca, part of the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. It is located in Pillo and neighbors Santa Ponsa, Paguera, and Son Ferrer. Construction began in the late 1970s. It was a project of the cooperative Pablo Iglesias who took the initiative for social housing in the municipality. It has schools, a sports hall, a bowling club, and other forms of entertainment. The most famous landmark is the mill of Santa Ponsa, located next to the roundabout junction of the Palma-Andratx and Santa Ponsa, Calvià. The mill was restored in a project created by a municipal school workshop. Galatzó has a registered population of 1598 inhabitants.

The Mallorca Golf Open was a professional golf tournament held from 21–24 October 2021 at Golf Santa Ponsa in Mallorca, Spain. Intended as a one-off event, the tournament was the first European Tour played in Mallorca since the Iberdrola Open in 2011. Jeff Winther shot 62 twice en route to a one-shot victory. In August 2022, it was announced that the tournament would return for a second time.

Serra de Na Burguesa (Balearic Catalan pronunciation: [ˈsɛrə ðə nə buɾˈɣəzə], formerly Serra de Portopí or Sierra de Porto Pi, meaning "Port of Pine Mountain") is a well-defined mountain on the island of Majorca, part of the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. It is the southernmost portion of the Serra de Tramuntana range, terminating in the Mediterranean Sea at Bay of Palma. Na Burguesa is located approximately halfway between Santa Ponsa and Palma. The municipality of Calvià is located between Na Burguesa and Serra de Tramuntana.

Palma Nova (Balearic Catalan pronunciation: [ˈpalmə ˈnɔvə]; "New Palma") is a town on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca, in the municipality of Calvià. Palma Nova was one of the first purpose-built tourist destinations on the island, catering for all tastes. The town is frequented by a range of socio-economic groups due to the proximity with both the city of Palma and the resort of Magaluf. Palma Nova Beach is seven kilometers (4.3 mi) from Calvià, situated between Punta Nadala and es Carregador, on the Spanish Balearic island of Majorca. Besides Palmanova beach, other names by which the beach is known include "Playa de Palma Nova", and "Platja de Palma Nova". The Palma Nova sea front has three beaches: Torrenova, Es Carregador, and Palma Nova. The beach has had an extension of 500 meters (1,600 ft) and has needed an artificial regeneration to achieve the current aspect of fine and white sand, as well as its dimensions.

The 2009 Palma Nova bombing occurred on July 30, 2009, when a limpet bomb went off outside a Civil Guard barracks in the town of Palma Nova, Majorca, Spain. The bomb was placed under a patrol car and two Civil Guard officers died as a result of the explosion. A second device was found under another Civil Guard vehicle at nearby barracks and safely exploded by police. On August 9, the Basque nationalist and separatist organisation ETA claimed responsibility for the attack, while four other bombs exploded around restaurants and shopping centres in Palma, Majorca, causing no injuries. The bombing was ETA's first attack in Majorca since it tried to kill King Juan Carlos I in the summer of 1995, and its deadliest attack since it killed two Civil Guard officers in Capbreton, France in 2007. The attack came on the eve of the 50th anniversary of ETA's founding, and days before the King's yearly visit to Majorca.

Western Water Park is a water park, located in Magaluf, Mallorca, Spain. The park consists of three areas: Western Land, Indian Town and El Paso. The park has the eleventh-highest slide in the world named The Beast together with El Salto del Diablo (The Devil's Drop) in Aquarama.

Peguera (translation from Catalan: "oven tar"; and the spelling on official road signs) is a tourist town in the municipality of Calvià on the island of Majorca (Mallorca in Spanish and Catalan), part of the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. It has three large beaches and hundreds of hotels, hostels and apartments. The population is approximately 3,988 inhabitants. The town's name refers to the oven tar produced in this area from the pitch of pine tree resin. Paguera, an alternative spelling apparently used locally, is a beach resort in the very southwest of Majorca in Spain. It is part of the municipality of Calvia. There are bus connections from Palma de Mallorca. It is particularly popular with German tourists to the point of being referred to as "Little Germany." A big shopping street goes the length of the resort. It is popular for the hiking routes in the back parts of the location and for Catamaran and boat trips that part from the resort.

The Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park is located in Santa Ponsa in the municipality of Calvià on the island of Majorca, part of the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. Puig de sa Morisca (translation: "Moorish Peak") is a hill, preserved in 2002 as an archaeological park. The park is 35 hectares (85 acres) in size and open to the public. The park contains more than 15 sites and nine architectural elements that are ethnologically interesting. One of these sites, the Son Ferrer tomb, was excavated from 2000 through 2009, a joint project of the University of the Balearic Islands, University of Barcelona, and University of Valencia. In addition, the site features Balearic flora found within a 10 km (6.2 mi) radius.

Magaluf (, Catalan: [məɣəˈluf], Spanish: [maɣaˈluf]) is a major holiday resort on the Spanish island of Majorca, primarily catering to the British, Russian, Irish, German, and Scandinavian package holiday market. Magaluf is in the municipality of Calvià and is situated within a group of towns, primarily Torrenova and Palma Nova. Son Sant Joan Airport – Majorca's main airport – is 24 kilometres (15 mi) from Magaluf.
