River Triogue

The Rock GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club based just outside the town of Mountmellick in County Laois, Ireland.

The Owenass River (Irish: An Abhainn Easa) is a river that flows through the county of Laois in Ireland. It is a tributary of the River Barrow. It has its source at Brisha in the Slieve Bloom Mountains, west of Ballyfin. It enters the town of Mountmellick from the west, passing under the Portlaoise Road and Sarsfield Street and flows north before joining the River Barrow at Strahard north of Mountmellick.

The Garryhinch ambush was a surprise attack on the Garda Síochána by the Provisional IRA on 16 October 1976. A bomb planted by the IRA in a farmhouse at Garryhinch on the County Laois-County Offaly border in Ireland was detonated. Garda Michael Clerkin was killed in the blast, and four other Gardaí at the scene were badly wounded. The incident was one of the few occasions during The Troubles when police officers in Ireland were deliberately targeted.

Sarsfields LFC Laois is a Ladies' Gaelic Football Association club based in Mountmellick in County Laois. It fields teams in Ladies' football from juvenile up to adult. At adult level, the club fields football teams at Senior and Junior grades. The club colours are blue and amber. Sarsfields uses the same crest as Mountmellick GAA.

Neighbouring clubs are The Rock, Kilcavan, Ballyfin and Rosenallis. At adult level, the club is a dual football and hurling club. Mountmellick field football teams at Intermediate and junior B. They field hurling teams at Intermediate and Junior B. They are the only hurling club in the Mountmellick parish.

Mountmellick Athletic Club is a Laois-based athletics club, affiliated to both Laois Athletics and Athletics Ireland. Founded in 1876, the club is one of the oldest athletic clubs in Ireland.

Mountmellick or Mountmellic (Irish: Móinteach Mílic) is a town in the north of County Laois, Ireland. It lies on the N80 national secondary road and the R422 and R423 regional roads. The town is part of Mountmellick Roman Catholic parish.

Tinnakill Castle (Irish: Tigh na Coille, lit. 'house of the wood'), also known as Tynekill, is a ruined medieval tower house in the parish of Coolbanagher, in the Barony of Portnahinch, County Laois in Ireland. Some sources suggest that the four-storey tower house dates from the mid-15th century and was built by Eoin Carragh MacDonnell (known as "John the Scabbed"), on the site of an earlier castle. Other sources date the structure to the 16th century, noting that it may have been owned by the O'Connor family before becoming a seat of the MacDonnells. Associated with the McDonnell family for some time, the last McDonnell to hold Tinnakill was James McDonnell, from whom the site was seized following his role in the Irish Rebellion of 1641. The tower house subsequently fell into disrepair, with some structural works undertaken to protect the ruin in the 19th century.A sheela na gig figure, removed in later centuries, was originally carved on a limestone window jamb on the building's second floor.

The Anngrove Stud is a horse breeding stud of approximately 350 acres established about 1970 near Mountmellick, County Laois, Ireland.
