Tinnakill Castle

The Garryhinch ambush was a surprise attack on the Garda Síochána by the Provisional IRA on 16 October 1976. A bomb planted by the IRA in a farmhouse at Garryhinch on the County Laois-County Offaly border in Ireland was detonated. Garda Michael Clerkin was killed in the blast, and four other Gardaí at the scene were badly wounded. The incident was one of the few occasions during The Troubles when police officers in Ireland were deliberately targeted.

The River Triogue (Irish: An Trióg) is a river that flows through the county of Laois in Ireland. It is a tributary of the River Barrow. It has its source in the Cullenagh Hills, south of Portlaoise. It enters the town of Portlaoise from the south, passing under Main Street and flows north before joining the River Barrow at Clonterry north east of Mountmellick.

Emo GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in Emo, County Laois, Ireland.

Emo (from the Irish: Ioma, meaning 'bed or resting-place') is a village in County Laois, Ireland. It is located near Portlaoise on the R422 regional road just off the M7 Dublin–Limerick motorway.

Emo Court, located near the village of Emo in County Laois, Ireland, is a large neo-classical mansion. Architectural features of the building include sash-style windows, pavilions, a balustrade, a hipped roof, and large dome. It was designed by the architect James Gandon in 1790 for John Dawson, the first Earl of Portarlington. It is one of the few houses to have been designed by Gandon. Other buildings by Gandon include the Custom House and Kings Inns in Dublin. While construction commenced in the 1790s, the first Earl died in 1798, and work was not completed until the tenure of the third Earl of Portarlington in the 1860s. Passing through several owners through the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the house and gardens were taken into ownership by the Irish state in the 1990s. Now managed by the Office of Public Works, the estate is open to visitors.

Sarsfields LFC Laois is a Ladies' Gaelic Football Association club based in Mountmellick in County Laois. It fields teams in Ladies' football from juvenile up to adult. At adult level, the club fields football teams at Senior and Junior grades. The club colours are blue and amber. Sarsfields uses the same crest as Mountmellick GAA.

Mountmellick GAA (Irish: Cumann Luthchleas Gael Móinteach Milic) is a Gaelic Athletic Association Gaelic Football and Hurling club in the town of Mountmellick in County Laois, Ireland. Neighbouring clubs are The Rock, Kilcavan, Ballyfin and Rosenallis. At adult level, the club is a dual football and hurling club. Mountmellick field football teams at Intermediate and junior B. They field hurling teams at Intermediate and Junior B. They are the only hurling club in the Mountmellick parish.

It has its source at Brisha in the Slieve Bloom Mountains, west of Ballyfin. It enters the town of Mountmellick from the west, passing under the Portlaoise Road and Sarsfield Street and flows north before joining the River Barrow at Strahard north of Mountmellick.

Clonygowan (also Cloneygowan) (Irish: Cluain na nGamhan, meaning 'pasture of the calves') is a village in County Offaly, Ireland, on the R420 regional road between Tullamore to Portarlington road. As of the 2016 census, it had a population of 198 people. The main village centre is built around a central green.

Portarlington, historically called Cooletoodera (from Irish: Cúil an tSúdaire, meaning 'nook of the tanner'), is a town on the border of County Laois and County Offaly, Ireland. The River Barrow forms the border. The town was recorded in the 2016 census as having a population of 8,368.
