The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is a libertarian non-profit free-market-oriented research, education, and outreach think tank founded by Koch Industries executives and directed by Tyler Cowen. It works with policy experts, lobbyists, and government officials to connect academic learning and real-world practice. Taking its name from the Latin word for "market", the center advocates free-market approaches to public policy. During the George W. Bush administration's campaign to reduce government regulation, the Wall Street Journal reported, "14 of the 23 rules the White House chose for its 'hit list' to eliminate or modify were Mercatus entries".According to the 2017 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report (Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program, University of Pennsylvania), Mercatus is number 39 in the "Top Think Tanks in the United States" and number 18 of the "Best University Affiliated Think Tanks". The Koch family has been a major financial supporter of the organization since the mid-1980s. Charles Koch serves on the group's board of directors.

The Schar School of Policy and Government is a constituent college of George Mason University in Arlington, Virginia. Established in 2000 as northern Virginia's first public policy school, the school offers undergraduate degrees in international relations, public policy, public administration, and international security, along with master's and doctoral programs of study, to include specialized fields of study in biodefense and international commerce, as well as executive education programs. While it primarily educates and conducts research in subjects related to politics, government, international affairs, and economics, as well as study of regional issues affecting the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, the school is home to several prominent centers and institutes, including the Michael V. Hayden Center and the Center for Security Policy Studies. The school is also the psephology partner of The Washington Post, collaborating on electoral polling and analysis for the paper since 2016, the two hold an A+ rating for historical accuracy and methodology in polling from FiveThirtyEight.The school's primary campus is in the Virginia Square neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia, with the headquarters in Van Metre Hall. Undergraduate programs offered by the school are primarily held at the university's flagship campus in Fairfax, Virginia, with night school offerings in both Arlington and Fairfax. In 2013, political scientist Mark J. Rozell became Acting Dean, taking over the role in a permanent capacity in 2016. During his tenure the school has averaged 80 faculty and a student body of approximately 2,000. The school completed the 244,000 sq ft academic headquarters, Van Metre Hall, in 2010. In 2020 the school began a $250 million expansion directly adjacent, as part of the Commonwealth of Virginia's bid to locate Amazon HQ2 in the nearby National Landing neighborhood. The Schar School is accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration, and is an affiliate member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA), a global consortium of prominent schools of international affairs. As part of George Mason University, the school is a Very High Research Activity (R1) academic unit in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. It receives approximately $2 million in sponsored funding for academic research annually. The school's budget was $18 million for the 2019–2020 academic year.

The Michael V. Hayden Center for Intelligence, Policy, and International Security (Hayden Center) is a think tank in Arlington, Virginia focused on intelligence and national security policy through shared experiences of senior intelligence service leaders, military officers, elected officials, journalists, and academics. It is housed within the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University.

The Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) is a libertarian non-profit organization that engages with students and professors throughout the United States. IHS offers educational and career programs, holds seminars and on-campus programs for university students, awards scholarships, provides mentoring and research grants for aspiring professors, and sponsors a collection of online videos.Founded by F. A. "Baldy" Harper in 1961, the organization later began an association with George Mason University and in 1985 moved to Fairfax, Virginia. The institute is currently located at 3434 Washington Blvd. on the Arlington campus of George Mason University. It is partially funded by the Koch family foundations and was characterized by the Center for Public Integrity as part of the Koch brothers' "mission to spread their libertarian message".

The Antonin Scalia Law School (previously George Mason University School of Law) is the law school of George Mason University, a public research university in Virginia. It is located in Arlington, Virginia, roughly 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Washington, D.C., and 15 miles (24 km) east-northeast of George Mason University's main campus in Fairfax, Virginia. U.S. News & World Report ranks the school 30th among American law schools, and it is the 3rd-highest-ranked law school in the Washington metropolitan area, behind Georgetown University Law Center and George Washington University Law School. In 2017, the school had 525 students in its J.D., LL.M., JD/MBA, and JD/MPP programs. The median LSAT score among incoming J.D. students in 2020 was 164 and the median GPA was 3.78. The passage rate for first-time takers of the Virginia bar exam in July 2020 was 95%, fifth among Virginia's eight law schools.

The Monroe Courts Historic District is a national historic district located at Arlington County, Virginia. It contains 39 contributing buildings in a residential neighborhood in northern Arlington. They were built in 1938, and consist of four groups of two-story, two-bay, rowhouse dwellings in a vernacular Colonial Revival-style. They were built for a middle-class clientele in a fast-growing commuter suburb of Washington, D.C.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Virginia Square–GMU is a side platformed Washington Metro station in the Virginia Square neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia, United States. The station opened on December 1, 1979, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). The station serves the Orange and Silver Lines. The station serves the Virginia Square neighborhood as well as the Arlington campus of George Mason University (GMU). The station entrance is located at the intersection of Fairfax Drive and North Monroe Street.

Arlington Arts Center also known as AAC, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit contemporary visual arts center based in Arlington (Virginia) and established in 1974.Housed since 1976 in the historic Maury School (formerly the Clarendon School), it presents artworks from regional artists in the mid-Atlantic states. The center is composed of exhibitions, educational programs and subsidized studio spaces and wants to increase awareness and appreciation of, and involvement in, the visual arts in Arlington County VA and the region. At 17,000 square feet, the facility includes 9 exhibitions galleries, working studios for 12 artists and 2 classrooms and is one of the largest non-federal venues for contemporary art in the Washington metropolitan area.

The Clarendon School is a historic school building located in the Virginia Square neighborhood of Arlington County, Virginia. The structure was built in 1910 based on a design by noted Virginia architect Charles M. Robinson. The school was renamed to the Maury School in 1925 to honor Matthew Fontaine Maury (1806-1873), a geographer, and oceanographer known as the “Pathfinder of the Seas.” Born on January 14, 1806, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Maury joined the United States Navy in 1821 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1836. He served as superintendent of the Navy Department's Depot of Charts and Instruments (the United States Naval Observatory) from 1842 to 1855 and from 1858 to 1861.When the American Civil War started in 1861, Maury resigned from the United States Navy to accept a commission as a commander in the Confederate States Navy, and later became Secretary of the Navy for the Confederacy. After the Civil War ended, he lived in England. In 1868, he moved to Lexington, Virginia, where he served as a professor of meteorology at the Virginia Military Institute.The building ceased operating as a school after the 1972–1973 school year. In 1977, the building was converted for use as a studio space for local artists. The Arlington Arts Center, a non-profit organization, has operated the building since that time, offering art classes, educational programs, exhibitions, and studio space.The Arlington County Board designated the building to be a local historic district on April 7, 1984. The National Park Service listed the building on the National Register of Historic Places on December 9, 1999.

The Cherrydale Volunteer Fire House is home to the Cherrydale Volunteer Fire Department in the Cherrydale neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia. Constructed in 1919, it has been a focal point for community attention ever since. The building served as Arlington County Fire Station #3 until a new station opened nearby in July 2011.

Virginia Square is a neighborhood in Arlington County, Virginia. It is centered at the Virginia Square station on the Orange and Silver lines of the Washington Metro subway system, between Clarendon and Ballston. The neighborhood consists of a mix of high-rise apartments, garden apartments, and single-family homes generally dating back to the 1930s. The Virginia Square neighborhood is home to the Arlington campus of George Mason University including its Law School, the Arlington Arts Center, some offices of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and the main branch of the Arlington Public Library. The area's name is derived from the former Virginia Square Shopping Center (now occupied mainly by a major satellite office of the FDIC with a Giant supermarket on part of the property). Among local restaurants, Mario's Pizza has been a landmark since 1957 and El Pollo Rico since 1988.

The Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) provides fire, emergency medical, and allied public safety services for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church in Virginia, USA. It is highly regarded within the profession as an innovator and leader in enhancing the industry. Among its many firsts are the hiring of the first female career firefighter in the world in 1974 and partnering with the United States Public Health Service to develop America's first Metropolitan Medical Strike Team to respond to the consequences of a chemical, biological or radiological terrorist attack.The ACFD operates nine stations and is a signatory to an automatic regional response plan with neighboring Fairfax County as well as the city of Alexandria, and participates in a regional mutual aid pact with the District of Columbia and the Maryland counties of Montgomery and Prince George’s. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, also in Arlington County, fields a fire department as part of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Fire and Rescue Department and works closely with the county's fire service. The 300-plus employees of the Fire Department provide services through a combination of education, prevention and effective response to fire, medical and environmental emergencies. The Arlington County Fire Department holds a Class 2 Rating from the Insurance Services Organization, the second-highest rating given to a Virginia fire department, and one of only three such ratings awarded in the state. This rating helps the local community by bringing lower insurance rates to homeowners and businesses.
