Longiano (Romagnol: Lunzèn) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Forlì-Cesena in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 90 kilometres (56 mi) southeast of Bologna and about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southeast of Forlì. Longiano borders the following municipalities: Borghi, Cesena, Gambettola, Gatteo, Montiano, Roncofreddo, Santarcangelo di Romagna, Savignano sul Rubicone.

As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,573 and an area of 9.3 square kilometres (3.6 sq mi). The municipality of Montiano contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Badia and Montenovo. Montiano borders the following municipalities: Cesena, Longiano, Roncofreddo.

As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 7,252 and an area of 14.1 square kilometres (5.4 sq mi). Gatteo borders the following municipalities: Cesenatico, Gambettola, Longiano, Savignano sul Rubicone.

The phrase "crossing the Rubicon" is an idiom that means "passing a point of no return". Its meaning comes from allusion to the crossing of the river Rubicon from the north by Julius Caesar in early January 49 BC. The exact date is unknown. Scholars usually place it on the night of 10 and 11 January because of the speeds at which messengers could travel at that time. It is often asserted that Caesar's crossing of the river precipitated Caesar's civil war, but Caesar's forces had already crossed into Italy and occupied Ariminum the previous day. The civil war ultimately led to Caesar's becoming dictator for life (dictator perpetuo). Caesar had been appointed to a governorship over a region that ranged from southern Gaul to Illyricum. As his term of governorship ended, the Senate ordered him to disband his army and return to Rome. As it was illegal to bring armies into the northern border of which was marked by the river Rubicon, his crossing the river under arms amounted to insurrection, treason, and a declaration of war on the state. According to some authors, he uttered the phrase iacta alea est ("the die is cast") before crossing.

Sogliano al Rubicone is renowned for the Formaggio di Fossa cheese.

Savignano sul Rubicone (Romagnol: Savgnèn) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Forlì-Cesena in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 90 kilometres (56 mi) southeast of Bologna and about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southeast of Forlì. The comune takes its name from the Rubicon, famous for Julius Caesar's historic crossing. A combination of natural and man-made changes caused the original Rubicon to change course repeatedly. For centuries the exact location of the original river was unknown. In 1991, the Fiumicino, a river which crosses Savignano sul Rubicone, was identified as the most likely location for the original Rubicon. Prior to that the region was called Savignano di Romagna.

San Mauro Pascoli (Romagnol: San Mevar) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Forlì-Cesena in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 100 kilometres (62 mi) southeast of Bologna and about 35 kilometres (22 mi) southeast of Forlì. It is at some 7.5 kilometres (4.7 mi) from the sea, the frazione of San Mauro Mare facing it. The comune was called San Mauro di Romagna until 1932, when its name was changed in honor of the poet Giovanni Pascoli and his beloved sister Maria, who were born here. Famous Italian shoe designers Giuseppe Zanotti and Sergio Rossi were also born there.
