The Old Farm, now known as Strawberry Hill/Barmup is located on Strawberry Hill in the suburb of Mira Mar in Albany, Western Australia. It is known as being the first farm in Western Australia.The hill on which the property is situated rises to a height of 72 metres (237 ft) and is a spur of Mount Clarence. The soil is a mixture of clay and gravel with rich black loam on the lower side.The farm was initially established in 1827 as a government farm when the first Europeans settled at King George Sound. Edmund Lockyer, Alexander Collie and John Lawrence Morley selected the site as a government farm. Originally it occupied an area of 622 hectares (1,536 acres) but only 2 hectares (6 acres) remain today. The next three commandants of the settlement, Captain Wakefield, Lieutenant Sleeman and Captain Collet Barker, followed Lockyer's plan of continuing to develop the farm. Alexander Collie was appointed Government Resident of Albany in 1831 and moved into a wattle and daub cottage situated on the farm. He named the property Strawberry Hill after the small plot of strawberries he was cultivating. Collie retired in 1832 and his successor was D. H. Macleod but it was the farm superintendent John Lawrence Morley who handed the property onto Richard Spencer. Spencer was appointed as Government Resident in 1833; he acquired the farm and resided there with his wife, Ann, and his ten children. Spencer arranged for the erection of a granite two-storey building at the rear end of the original wattle and daub structure at a cost of £100. The garden was now well established and producing blood oranges, raspberries, grapes, asparagus, figs and almonds. The first visitors to stay in the new building included Charles Darwin and Captain Robert FitzRoy, of HMS Beagle.The old thatched roof wattle and daub part of the main residence burned down in 1870. A second cottage was built by Charles Miner in the same year.Francis Bird, the Chief Architect of Western Australia, acquired the property in 1889 and changed the name from Strawberry Hill to the Old Farm. His family retained ownership of the farm until the 1950s.The site lay derelict for many years until being purchased by the Federal Government in 1956 and it was then vested in the National Trust of Australia in 1964. Conservation work commenced shortly afterward and it was later opened to the public.

Mira Mar is a northeastern suburb of Albany, Western Australia, between the Albany city centre and Spencer Park in the local government area of the City of Albany. Mira Mar was gazetted as a suburb in 1979.

Albany Senior High School is a comprehensive public co-educational high day school, located in Albany, a regional centre in the Great Southern region, 420 kilometres (261 mi) south-southeast of Perth, Western Australia. The school was established in 1918. The school's catchment area covers most of the City of Albany and in 2015 the school had an enrolment of 1,113 students between Year 7 and Year 12; four percent of whom were Indigenous Australians.

Mount Clarence (Nyungar: Corndarup) is an inner suburb of Albany, Western Australia, between the Albany city centre and Middleton Beach. Its local government area is the City of Albany, and over three-quarters of its land area is either parkland or forest, including Albany's Heritage Park. Mount Clarence was gazetted as a suburb in 1979.

Memorial Park Cemetery also known as Pioneer Cemetery and Old Albany Cemetery is a cemetery located along Middleton Road in the city of Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It was constructed in 1836 and is the first consecrated cemetery in Western Australia, gazetted in 1840 as a public burial ground to provide for the needs of a growing community. It was closed as a public cemetery in 1959, with a few burials being held there until 2000 and ashes placed there until 2009. Most burials now being held at Allambie Park Cemetery. It is thought to be the longest serving public cemetery in Western Australia.The hillside cemetery occupies an area of approximately 2.5 hectares (6 acres) and is divided into demoninational sections containing a total of approximately 5,000 graves. It is composed of two parts, the upper cemetery and the lower cemetery, separated by Middleton Road. Easily accessed by pedestrians the site has a number of mature native and exotic trees and a range of diversity, style and age of memorials and grave fittings on the plots.Classified by the National Trust in 2000, the cemetery was listed on the permanent register of the Heritage Council of Western Australia in 2003.

The Albany Masonic Hall, also known as Plantagenet Lodge, is a heritage listed building located at 58–60 Spencer Street, on the corner of Earl Street, on the south western slopes of Mount Clarence in Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The Albany Lodge, the Lodge of St John, was the first Masonic lodge to erect a hall in Western Australia. It is also the only one still under the English Constitution. The land was bought in 1872 for the sum of £30. The first hall was built on the site in 1873 but was demolished in 1903 to make way for the new hall. The first hall was a tall and narrow building two storeys high. It faced on to Earl St with a door and two sash windows on the ground floor and three windows above. The first meeting was held there in 1873. The foundation stone was laid in July 1903, after the brethren met and marched from Scots Church to the site and then buried a phial containing a brief history of the lodge.The hall is situated on a 2,266 square metres (0.23 ha) block. The building has an elevated position, has elements of a simple Federation Warehouse style, gable roof with freemason symbol on gable, arched windows on façade and emphasised piers with decorative top motifs.

Yakkan Toort / Dog Rock is a large, natural granite outcrop that is located along Middleton Road between Middleton Beach and the centre of Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The rock is a prominent landmark and has the shape of a dog's head when viewed from the western side, leading to the name. Dog rock has become a popular tourist attraction for the area. The Noongar people know the rock as Yacka which means "wild dog tamed"; it is thought to be an ancient territorial boundary marker. Local Aboriginal people will not camp near the rock or shelter beneath it, although the reason is not known.In 1921 the Council proposed demolishing the rock with explosives so as to widen the road. The idea was met with protests and petitions along with an angry exchange during a council meeting resulting in the proposal being quashed.The Royal Automobile Club labelled the rock a danger to traffic in 1938 as it encroached onto the road. The local authorities then painted the distinctive white collar around the base of the rock to make it more visible.In the 1960s, the manager of the local radio station 6VA, suggested that the rock should be moved to the roundabout of Albany Highway, Denmark Road, North Road and Chester Pass Road. He believed that this would make it a more central tourist destination, and that the rock could be cut into slices and moved piece by piece and then rebuilt at the new site. The rock was classified by the National Trust in 1973 and adopted into the municipal inventory in 2001.The feature was dual named in 2021 to Yakkan Toort / Dog Rock.

Stirling Terrace, Albany is a street in the centre of Albany, Western Australia adjoining York Street. As a historic street and part of a historic precinct it has a number of listed heritage buildings that look out over the Albany Harbour, including Argyle House.Stirling Terrace has appeared on maps of the town since 1834 and is named after James Stirling, the first Governor of Western Australia. The 1835 Hillman survey plan established the road as the prime location in the town, with a variety of social, commercial, leisure, institutional and service functions. The town jetty and railway station both had frontage along Stirling Terrace making it a transport hub of the town. The Empire theatre was also built along Stirling Terrace. During the 1870s and 1880s much of the frontage along Stirling Terrace to the east of York Street was filled. John Moir built a store, the Argyll buildings were erected, and a branch of the National Bank (known as Vancouver House) was constructed in 1881. Alexander Moir established Glasgow House and Edinburgh House in 1882, the Union Bank of Australia building (known as Albany House) was built in 1884, followed by the Royal George Hotel in 1885 and then the White Star Hotel. The Commercial Bank building, later a branch of the Western Australian Bank, was built in 1891.The 1897 development of Jubilee Gardens along the slope between the upper and lower terrace made the area created a recreational centre for the area. The Jubilee Bandstand, found within the gardens, was opened in 1898. It was the main street of early Albany and by 1900 four hotels, three banks, three department stores, shipping agencies as well as numerous other small businesses were found along the Terrace.The laying of the foundation stone for the Albany Courthouse was held in 1896, with the building completed and opened in 1898.The London Hotel was built along Stirling Terrace in 1909. It was built on the site of the Chusan Hotel which had stood on the site since 1849 and was rebuilt in 1871.The Empire Buildings were constructed on the corner of Stirling Terrace and York Street in 1912, comprising a 1,000-seat theatre and shops.To the west of the intersection with York Street is the Albany Courthouse. To the east of the intersection, there are a number of heritage properties including the Jubilee Bandstand and Albany Post Office on the southern side of the terrace and the White Star Hotel on the northern side. Like York Street, it was frequently photographed as streetscape representative of the prosperity of the town.

The Eyre Park is a park in Middleton Beach in Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The park is bounded by Adelaide Crescent, Middleton Road and Garden Street. It has large open spaces, lakes, gazebos, barbeques, public toilets, children's play area and a basketball court.The park was designed by Harry Baxter of South Perth who won a competition held by the Albany Municipal Council including a £50 prize. The competition was held in 1946 and Baxter's layout for Eyre Park envisioned most of the area being occupied by an ornamental lake, with provision for gardens and sporting facilities on other portions.The Middleton Beach Progress Association proposed that tennis courts, a bowling and croquet lawns with pavilion be established on a portion of the park.By 1948 work was in progress with sandhills being cleared near the beachfront for parking being used to reclaim land at Eyre Park. Bulldozers also continued clearing land within the park.Play equipment in the park was upgraded in 2016 to include a flying fox, swings, climbing ropes, log rocker, stepping stumps and other items. A bird hide is also planned along the edge of the lake.

The Everett Buildings are a group of heritage listed buildings in Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. They are located on the corner of Stirling Terrace and Spencer Street almost directly opposite the Old Post Office building. The Everett Buildings are part of a group of similar scale two storey buildings that have an asymmetrical facade. The buildings have rendered brick walls and parapet walls above the roof line.The building was originally a single storey with a second storey added on much later. The buildings also have massed informal windows, recessed doors, rendered chimneys with moulded caps and a cantilevered box verandah.In 1936 the buildings were auctioned. They were a grocery, hardware store, drapery, tea-rooms, confectioners and a four bedroom private residence.A drapery in the building that had existed since 1911 nearly burned down in 1938 when a fire started in the building. Volunteers extinguished the fire after establishing a bucket chain. The building was owned by Percy McCarthy at the time.In 2014 a heritage grant was awarded to the Everett Building and other heritage buildings for work such as painting and repairs to facades, brickwork and windows as part of Anzac Centenary commemorations.Albany Backpackers now takes up part of the buildings which was originally Everett's store.

Arglye House is a heritage listed building located at 42-50 Stirling Terrace overlooking Princess Royal Harbour in Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The two-storey building has a rendered brick façade with a hipped corrugated iron roof only just above a parapet wall. A central raised pediment has a bas-relief with the words "Argyle House" inscribed. A single line of arched windows are a feature across the second storey of the building. It was constructed in the 1890s in a style matching the adjacent Edinburgh and Glasgow Houses. The Adelaide Steamship Company occupied the building in 1897, and in 1901 the owner was Elizabeth Dunn. It was awarded a grant of A$28,865 in 2015 to assist with painting, installing a new verandah and windows, and general conservation work.

The Royal George Hotel is a heritage listed building that operates as a hotel in Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It is located along Stirling Terrace, overlooking Princess Royal Harbour adjacent to the White Star Hotel. The three storey building is an example of Victorian Free Classical architecture and is part of a group of commercial buildings with an asymmetrical façade and inter-columnisation. The building has a painted rendered brick facade on the second and third storeys with painted brick below. The roof is concealed by a parapet wall with gables and classical decorative motifs. Street level windows are arched and a cantilevered box verandah provides some shade and cover.The hotel was built in 1885, during the Western Australian goldrush of the 1890s and 1890s when thousands of prospectors arrived in Albany en route to the Kalgoorlie goldfields resulting in a building boom in Albany.The site on which the hotel is found was where Aberdeen House, constructed prior to 1867 and the home of Alexander and Catherine Moir, once stood. Some of the house was later incorporated into the rear of the hotel. The Moir's leased the building to Frederick Watts in the mid-1880s; he then converted it to a hotel. He named it the Railway Hotel after the Great Southern Railway station that had been built just below the site. By 1892 Moir leased the hotel to Charles Bailye, who changed the name to the Royal George Hotel.In 1897 the licensee was Edward Reynolds and the building had five sitting rooms and 22 bedrooms.The Cremorne Gardens were once located behind the hotel. The gardens included an outdoor cinema and a roller skating rink. The gardens have since been demolished.In 1910 work commenced on extensions to the hotel. The top storey was added along with a front balcony with cast iron lacework. The walls were made of tuck-pointed brickwork with stucco bands and sills. The first floor level had 18 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and toilets and a sitting room. The second floor had 13 bedrooms with 2 baths and toilets. The bar facilities took up the ground floor.The balcony has since been removed and replaced with a cantilevered box verandah.Guests had to be evacuated when a fire broke out in one of the rooms in 2005, causing A$35,000 worth of damage.In 2014 a heritage grant was awarded to the Royal George and other heritage buildings for work such as painting and repairs to facades, brickwork and windows as part of Anzac Centenary commemorations.
