Mansion House, Kawau Island

The Pumphouse ruins on Kawau Island, New Zealand, belong to the copper mine established in 1844. The mine had ongoing problems, including legal, mismanagement, and flooding. To address the latter issue, a pumphouse was built in 1854. The ruins were registered by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (now called Heritage New Zealand) on 23 June 1983 with registration number 9. The ruins have a category I listing.

The Smelting House ruins on Kawau Island, New Zealand, belong to the copper mine established in 1844. As there were problems with combustion of the copper ore during the sea voyage to Wales or Australia, tenders were called in 1848 for the erection of a copper mine smelter. The Auckland architect Walter Robertson designed a simple building completely built of Waitematā sandstone. Opened in July 1849, it was New Zealand's first smelting house. The smelter was no longer functioning in September 1855, and shortly after that, the mine closed altogether.After the Battle of Rangiriri, which was part of the Invasion of the Waikato, the building briefly housed the 183 Māori prisoners taken in that battle. Guarded by just six wardens, they escaped in September 1864 and eventually returned to the Waikato.The smelter site was purchased as a reserve in 1977. The ruins were registered by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (now called Heritage New Zealand) on 24 November 1983 with registration number 10. The ruins have a category I listing. As of 2015, about 50% of the walls remain standing on three sides of the building. The site can be visited by boat only.

Takangaroa Island (formerly known as Goat Island) is one of the two Mayne Islands located near Kawau Island, in New Zealand's Hauraki Gulf. It is approximately 6 hectares (15 acres) in size.Its name is Māori, and means "The Long Casting of the Net". Nearby Rabbit Island is known as Takangariki, "The Short Casting of the Net", and two rocky reefs between them are considered to be the buoys of the net.The island was known as Goat Island until 1971, when the name was legally changed to the Māori name in order to prevent confusion with the popular marine reserve.During the late 19th century, it was owned by George Grey, the former Governor-General of New Zealand. The island is now privately owned, and is a wildlife sanctuary, meaning that no dogs, cats or guns are allowed.

Kawau Island is in the Hauraki Gulf, close to the north-eastern coast of the North Island of New Zealand. At its closest point it lies 1.4 km (0.87 mi) off the coast of the Northland Peninsula, just south of Tāwharanui Peninsula, and about 8 km (5.0 mi) by sea journey from Sandspit Wharf, and shelters Kawau Bay to the north-east of Warkworth. It is 40 km (25 mi) north of Auckland. Mansion House in the Kawau Island Historic Reserve is an important historic tourist attraction. Almost every property on the Island relies on direct access to the sea. There are only two short roads serving settlements at Schoolhouse Bay and South Cove, and most residents have private wharves for access to their front door steps. The island is named after the Māori word for the shag (cormorant) bird.A regular ferry service operates to the island from Sandspit Wharf on the mainland, as do water taxi services.

Scandrett Regional Park is a regional park located on the north east tip of the Mahurangi Peninsula, north of the city of Auckland, New Zealand. It encompasses Mullet Point and includes regenerating coastal forest, rocky headlands that protrude into Kawau Bay, Scandretts Bay beach and a precinct of historic farm buildings. The people of Auckland own the park through the Auckland Council.

Tāwharanui Regional Park is a regional park on the Tāwharanui Peninsula in the Auckland Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located in Rodney, east of Warkworth and north of Auckland.

Tāwharanui Peninsula is a finger of land projecting into the Hauraki Gulf from the east coast of the much larger North Auckland Peninsula of New Zealand. It separates Ōmaha Bay to the north from Kawau Bay and Kawau Island to the south. The nearest sizable town is Warkworth. Tāwharanui Regional Park covers 588 hectares of the peninsula's land and Tāwharanui Marine Reserve covers the northern coastal sea. Both are administered by Auckland Council which also owns the regional park. Geologically the peninsula consists of Waitemata Sandstone on top of folded and uplifted greywacke.Tāwharanui Marine Park was established offshore of the peninsula in 1981 as New Zealand's first Marine Protected Area. The marine park was replaced by Tāwharanui Marine Reserve in September 2011.North Island brown kiwi was reintroduced into the area.

Mahurangi Peninsula is a landform in the Rodney Local Board Area in the Auckland Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located between two bodies of water: the Mahurangi Harbour and Kawau Bay.

Baddeleys Beach and Campbells Beach are a contiguous settlement on adjacent beaches on the southern side of Tāwharanui Peninsula in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. The beaches are on Millon Bay, which is a part of Kawau Bay.The land around Millon Bay was originally covered by kauri and other native trees, which were the focus for logging by early European settlers. Once the land was cleared it was used for dairy farming by the Baddeley and Campbell families. In the mid-1960s, with farming proving financially marginal, blocks were sold off for the building of baches. These subsequently were upgraded to or replaced by permanent dwellings.Baddeleys Beach Reserve and Campbells Beach Reserve give public access to the beaches at each end of the settlement and provide basic amenities.

Buckleton Beach is a small settlement on the southern side of Tāwharanui Peninsula in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. The beach is on Wanns Bay, which is a part of Kawau Bay. A property developer, Mr J G Buckleton, bought the land in 1954 and subdivided it in 1957. Omaio is a garden covering 7.3 hectares (18 acres) near Buckleton Beach, developed since 2005 and named as being of International Significance by the New Zealand Gardens Trust.

Tāwharanui Marine Reserve is a marine reserve covering an area of 394 hectares (970 acres) in the Hauraki Gulf, offshore from the Tāwharanui Peninsula in the Auckland Region of New Zealand's North Island. It was established in 2011 and is administered by the Department of Conservation.

Algies Bay is a northern coastal suburb of Auckland, in New Zealand. It is on the Mahurangi Peninsula about 68 kilometres (by road) north of the city centre. Highfield Garden Reserve is an area of public land just north of Algies Bay. Until 1985, it was a privately owned flower-growing and orchard business, which also had donkeys. The owners gifted it to the public, and it now has gardens, walks, fruit trees, and a donkey sanctuary.Scandrett Regional Park and Mahurangi Regional Park East are south of Algies Bay.
