San Gorgonio River

The San Gorgonio Pass wind farm is a wind farm that stretches from the eastern slope of the San Gorgonio Pass, near Cabazon, to North Palm Springs, on the western end of the Coachella Valley, in Riverside County, California. Flanked by Mount San Gorgonio and the Transverse Ranges to the North, and Mount San Jacinto and the Peninsular Ranges to the South, the San Gorgonio Pass is a transitional zone from a Mediterranean climate west of the pass, to a Desert climate east of the pass. This makes the pass area one of the most consistently windy places in the United States.Development of the wind farm began in the 1980s. It is one of three major wind farms in California, along with those at Altamont and the Tehachapi passes.

Bonnie Bell is an unincorporated community in Riverside County, California. It lies at an elevation of 1683 feet (513 m).Bonnie Bell is located 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Interstate 10 on Whitewater Canyon Road beside the Whitewater River. The community sits where the most eastern end of the San Gorgonio Pass meets the most northwestern end of the Coachella Valley, 9.5 miles (15.3 km) northwest of Palm Springs.

Snow Creek, also known as Snow Creek Village, is a small unincorporated community in Riverside County, California. It is located roughly northwest of Palm Springs, on the western edge of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, and roughly southeast of the San Gorgonio Pass. It is named after nearby Snow Creek.The community consists of less than 40 dwellings, with a single 2-mile road connecting it to California State Route 111.

The Nude Bowl was a popular skateboarding locale from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. The name comes from the fact that the site was once a naturist resort named "Desert Gardens Ranch."It is outside Desert Hot Springs, California and consists of an abandoned kidney bean shaped swimming pool and a few foundations of buildings that used to surround the area. There is no paved road to the Nude Bowl. Initially, the Nude Bowl was merely a skateboarding party location, but by the 1990s, large parties and violence became commonplace there. After numerous complaints about guns and fighting around the Nude Bowl, the police filled it in with dirt. Skateboarders returned, removed the dirt, and repaired the bowl. After a few months, the police broke up the concrete and buried the remains of the bowl, but recently the pool was dug up and repaired and is now intact.

Whitewater (formerly, White Water) is a census-designated place in Riverside County, California. It is directly off Interstate 10 halfway between North Palm Springs and Cabazon on the way from Palm Springs to Los Angeles. It is known as the site of the San Gorgonio Pass Wind Farm. Whitewater is famous for its recently renovated trout farm in the canyon of the Whitewater River.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway in Palm Springs, California, is the largest rotating aerial tramway in the world. It was opened in September 1963 as a way of getting from the floor of the Coachella Valley to near the top of San Jacinto Peak and was constructed in rugged Chino Canyon. Before its construction, the only way to the top of the mountain was to hike hours from Idyllwild. The rotating cars were added in 2000.

Chino Canyon is a 5.5-mile-long (8.9 km) desert canyon in Riverside County, California, United States. It is one of the steepest canyons in North America, dropping from over 8,500 feet (2,600 m) at the south rim to less than 2,700 feet (820 m) on the valley floor in less than a mile. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway was built in the canyon in 1963 to quickly transport people from the valley floor to the top of the mountain. The canyon is located in the northern end of the San Jacinto Mountains at the northwestern end of the Coachella Valley. Its associated stream is a tributary of the Whitewater River. In 1942, Chino Canyon was the site of a mid-air collision between American Airlines Flight 28 and a U.S. Army Air Force bomber.

American Airlines Flight 28 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight that crashed on October 23, 1942, in Chino Canyon near Palm Springs, California, United States, after being struck by a United States Army Air Forces B-34 bomber. The B-34 suffered only minor damage, and landed safely at the Army Airport of the Sixth Ferrying Command, Palm Springs.All nine passengers and three crewmembers on board the twin-engine DC-3 perished in the crash and subsequent fire; neither of the two Army pilots aboard the B-34 was injured. The army pilot was later tried on manslaughter charges, but was found not guilty by a court martial trial board.Casualties in the crash included Academy Award-winning Hollywood composer Ralph Rainger, who had written a number of hit songs including "I Wished on the Moon," "June in January," "Blue Hawaii," "Love in Bloom" (Jack Benny's signature song), and "Thanks for the Memory" (Bob Hope's signature song).

The 2016 I-10 tour bus crash was a vehicle accident that occurred on Interstate 10 (I-10) in California on October 23, 2016, when a tour bus slammed into the back of a semi-trailer truck. The crash killed 13 and injured 30 others.

Palm Springs station is a train station in the Garnet community of Palm Springs, California, United States, served by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system. The Sunset Limited and the Texas Eagle, combined, provide a thrice-weekly service in each direction. This is not a full-service station. The station comprises a single platform and an open-air shelter with a roof. It was built in 1999, and the property is owned by the City of Palm Springs. No services are offered at this unmanned station. The station is approximately 7 miles (11 km) north of Palm Springs, and there are no connecting transportation services between the station and downtown except for taxi cabs and app-based ride services. Greyhound Lines also has a stop (no ticketing) at the station.The station was temporarily closed in May 2021 when desert sandstorms caused sand drifts near the station, making it unsafe for passengers. The station reopened on August 28, 2021.

The Tramway Gas Station is a landmark former Enco service station in Palm Springs, California, United States, so named because of its location at the foot of Tramway Road, the lone road leading to the base of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. It was intended to be the first Palm Springs building visitors saw when approaching the city from the north via California State Route 111. The building, with its distinctive, cantilevered, wedge-shaped canopy (referred to as a hyperbolic paraboloid on a historic marker mounted on the building) was built in 1965 and designed by Albert Frey and Robson C. Chambers. It is considered to be a prime example of modernist architecture. The station had closed by the mid-1990s, and its fate was in doubt until its purchase by a private interest, who erected a wall around the property and converted it into an art gallery. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. It is now operated by the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism as the Palm Springs Visitor Center.

North Palm Springs is an unincorporated community in Riverside County, California, United States. North Palm Springs is located at the intersection of Dillon Road and North Indian Canyon Drive near the northern border of Palm Springs, south of Interstate 10. In the 1950s and early 1960s, North Palm Springs hosted several businesses including a shoe repair shop, coin laundry, two bars that served burgers and other basic fare (one of which is still open under a new name), a Chinese restaurant, and a gas station that was connected to a restaurant and bar. There was one very small general store-type market. The nearest elementary school was in Desert Hot Springs (K-6), and junior high and high schools were in Palm Springs.An estimated 2,000 residents lived in North Palm Springs in the 2010 Census.Historically, it was the base of the Mission Creek Band of Cahuilla with a former Indian Reservation located northwest of the town.
