The Hundred of Macclesfield is a cadastral division of the County of Hindmarsh in South Australia. It lies in the Adelaide Hills and straddles the South Eastern Freeway. It is named after the Earl of Macclesfield while the aboriginal name used for the area covered by the hundred is reported to be Kangowirranilla, meaning 'place for kangaroos and water'. Within its bounds are the localities of Blakiston, Flaxley, Littlehampton, Macclesfield, Totness, parts of Bugle Ranges, Echunga, Gemmells, Green Hills Range, Meadows, Mount Barker, Mount Barker Junction, Mount Barker Summit, Nairne, Paris Creek, Strathalbyn and Wistow.

Wistow is a small town, just outside Mount Barker, on Wellington Road. It is a town formed around the intersection of Wellington Road (Mount Barker to Wellington) and Long Valley Road (Wistow to Strathalbyn) It was home to a general store (closed) which is now a bakery/cafe with a Post Office agency, a hall and a church. It has a cricket ground on the top of a hill. The Wistow Cricket Club, known as the Echidnas, has played on the hill since the early 1900s, and is one of the strongest clubs in the Alexandra and Eastern Hills Cricket Association. The Echidnas have won five A Grade premierships since the Association was established in 1982 (1993/1994, 1999/2000, 2002/2003, 2004/2005 and 2007/2008). The Wistow Community Association is an active community group that once ran the Wistow Country Market every 3rd Saturday (now discontinued), has frequent social events and publishes a regular newsletter. The Wistow Community Hall, owned by the Association, is leased out to a variety of sporting, social and environmental groups.

Gemmells is a locality in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. It lies between Mount Barker and Strathalbyn, both by road and on the Victor Harbor railway line. Gemmells was named for Thomas Gemmell, an early farmer and pastoralist in the area.

Macclesfield is a small town on the upper reaches of the River Angas in the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia. In the 2016 census, Macclesfield had a population of 832 while the 2016 Census showed an increase to 958. Macclesfield is in the District Council of Mount Barker local government area's South Ward. As of 2015, the elected representative members in the South Ward were Roger Irvine and Greg Morrison. The town is also in the state electorate of Heysen and the federal Division of Mayo.

Flaxley is a small settlement in the Adelaide Hills located 39 km south-east of the centre of the city of Adelaide in South Australia. It is situated in-between the larger towns of Echunga, Macclesfield and Meadows. It is based near the property "Battunga" meaning "rolling hills" in Aboriginal vocabulary. The property was purchased by English settler Robert Davenport in 1843. After Robert died in 1896, the property remained in the Davenport family until 1914 when it was purchased by Professor William Lowrie, agriculturalist and Principal of Roseworthy Agricultural College, South Australia. Professor Lowrie was able to carry out much important research at Battunga, including work on the use of super-phosphate on South Australian farms.The first church in Flaxley was built on the property which also served as a school. A Methodist church (which is now Uniting) was built in 1874. From 1899 to 1943 it was also used as a school.Although small, Flaxley is a historically important link in the regions history. It has a church, tennis club and a community hall. The name is taken from the village Flaxley in Gloucestershire. Flaxley is part of the Battunga Country region in the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges.

Mount Barker High School is a public high school located in the Adelaide Hills, 34 kilometres east of Adelaide. It was founded in 1908, celebrating its centenary in 2008.

The Laratinga Wetlands, constructed in 1999, is a wetland located in Mount Barker, South Australia. It is named after the Aboriginal Peramangk peoples' name for the Mount Barker Creek, "Laratinga".The wetlands occupy an area of 16.7 hectares (41 acres), of which 10.7 hectares (26 acres) is underwater.

St Francis de Sales College is a Reception to Year 12 Catholic co-educational school located in Mount Barker, South Australia.

The SteamRanger Heritage Railway is a historic train society in South Australia running trains on the Victor Harbor railway line. It is the only group regularly operating broad gauge steam locomotives in South Australia. It is run by volunteers of the South Australian Division of the Australian Railway Historical Society.

Mount Barker railway station is a preserved railway station in South Australia on the Victor Harbor line, formerly operated by South Australian Railways and its successor, Australian National. With only broad gauge track running through the station, it has been disconnected from the Adelaide metropolitan network since the standardisation of the Adelaide-Wolseley line in 1995. It is still used by SteamRanger, a heritage train operator between Mount Barker and Victor Harbor.

Mount Barker is a city in South Australia. Located approximately 33 kilometres (21 miles) from the Adelaide city centre, it is home to 16,629 residents. It is the seat of the District Council of Mount Barker, the largest town in the Adelaide Hills, and one of the fastest-growing areas in the state. Mount Barker lies at the base of a local eponymous peak called the Mount Barker summit. It is 50 kilometres from the Murray River. Mount Barker was traditionally a farming area, and many of the lots just outside the town area are farming lots, although some of them have been replaced with new subdivisions in recent times.

Mount Barker was an electoral district of the House of Assembly in the Australian state of South Australia from 1857 to 1902.Mount Barker was also the name of one of the sixteen districts in the unicameral South Australian Legislative Council, which existed from July 1851 to February 1857; John Baker was the elected representative.The town of Mount Barker is currently represented by the safe Liberal seat of Kavel.
