Northport Historic District

The Hugh Rowe Thomas Bridge is a six-lane, girder bridge spanning the Black Warrior River along U.S. Route 43 and Alabama State Route 69, connecting downtown Tuscaloosa and Northport in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, that opened in 1974. The bridge is split in Tuscaloosa to accommodate two major, one-way thoroughfares (Lurleen Wallace Boulevard North and South), before joining heading towards Northport. It replaced a lift bridge that was built in 1922 and demolished in 1973. As of 2008, the average daily traffic count for the bridge is approximately 68,400 vehicles. This is one of four vehicular bridges spanning the Black Warrior in Tuscaloosa. The KCS Railroad (formerly the M&O Railroad) trestle crosses the river nearby and is visible from the bridge.The bridge was named in honor of Alabama State Representative Hugh Rowe Thomas who was killed in a car wreck in April 1967 while traveling to Montgomery for a special session. He had been elected in 1966 and was just 33 years old. Thomas was one of three children of famed University of Alabama football coach Frank Thomas and wife Frances Rowe.

The Tuscaloosa Amphitheater is an outdoor amphitheater in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA that is used primarily for music performances. It has a seating capacity of 7,470.The amphitheater is located on Jack Warner Parkway, just beside the Hugh R. Thomas Bridge, only minutes away from the University of Alabama campus and blocks from downtown Tuscaloosa. It is the largest outdoor theater in West Alabama.

Capitol Park on Childress Hill is a park in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on a bluff above the Black Warrior River. It was the site of the Alabama State Capitol from 1826 to 1846, when the capitol was moved to Montgomery. The capitol building was subsequently used for Alabama Central Female College. It burned in 1923. A historical marker in the park commemorates the school's history. The University of Alabama has a collection of papers related to the school. Classical architecture ruins from the building remain.

The Fitch House in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at 3404 Sixth St., was built around 1830. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.It is a two-story two-room deep house with a two-story full-length porch. Its earliest portion, built around 1830, was a frame, two-story, one-room deep side hall and parlor house. It was expanded and modified later, perhaps around 1860 or even as late as around 1880, into its Greek Revival form. There is an "Eastlake-inspired projecting second-floor balcony" which was added around 1880.It is significant in part for its association with master builder and carpenter John S. Fitch, who built and lived in the house.

Tuscaloosa County High School original building was completed in 1926. The first graduating class was summer of 1927. The Principal was Dr. Houston Cole, who later became President of Jacksonville State University. The first student government for the school was organized in 1928. Hiram Darden was the first president. Secretary for that class was Inez Deal. The treasurer was Dan Whitson. Built as a high school for the county, many rural county schools were closed. Due to this school being built, a county wide school busing system was enacted. Students were bused from many miles away in the county to the school. Students came from south, north and west rural sections of the county. Many of them from south Tuscaloosa County were bused across the City of Tuscaloosa to get to County High. During the 1940s, the school building was the high point in local political rallies. Political rallies were held all across the county and only a few days before the election, a big county wide political rally was at County High Alabama’s first female Governor, Lurleen Burns Wallace, was a student. County High was last used in December 2000. A new school about five miles north was completed and all functions of the school were transferred to the new school over the school break.

Christ Episcopal Church is a historic church building in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It was organized on January 7, 1828, by thirteen men who elected the first vestry that night. In the first year, the vestry hired the architect William Nichols to design the building and oversee its construction. The building was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on July 28, 1975.

The Alabama Stage and Screen Hall of Fame was founded in 1998 for the purpose of honoring Alabamians who have made significant contributions to film, television or theatre. The organization is sponsored jointly by Theatre Tuscaloosa and Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The Downtown Tuscaloosa Historic District is a historic district which was first listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The listing included 50 contributing buildings on 27 acres (11 ha), including the historic city hall of Tuscaloosa. It included a total of 91 buildings, with non-contributing buildings and ones deemed marginally contributing. The listing was expanded in 1989 with the addition of 4 acres (1.6 ha) including eight more contributing buildings.The original district was roughly bounded by Fourth St., Twenty-second Ave., Seventh St., and Greensboro Ave. It includes the separately-NRHP-listed Bama Theatre-City Hall Building and City National Bank (1922).

The Bama Theatre is a historic theatre in Tuscaloosa, Alabama that currently serves as the city's performing arts center. Its modern redevelopment is the result of cooperation between the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa and the Tuscaloosa County Parks and Recreation Authority. The three-story brick and limestone building is located at the corner of Sixth Street and Greensboro Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on August 30, 1984. It is also a contributing building in the Downtown Tuscaloosa Historic District, NRHP-listed in 1985.

The City National Bank is an historic building in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It was designed in the Classical Revival Style by William Leslie Welton and was built in 1922. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.It is also a contributing building in the Downtown Tuscaloosa Historic District, NRHP-listed in 1985.
