East Sydney is a small inner-city locality in Sydney, Australia. It is situated immediately east of the Sydney central business district, adjacent to Hyde Park. East Sydney is a locality within the suburbs of Woolloomooloo and Darlinghurst and is in the City of Sydney. The locality is of predominantly residential and also includes education, media, commercial, and significant cafes and restaurants. It contains a number of institutions of significance including the Australian Museum, Sydney Grammar School, MTV and a residence of the St Vincent de Paul Society. The locality has a distinctive history, transitioning through periods of high regard to ill-repute. The locality is contained within the NSW Office of Heritage & Environment "East Sydney and Darlinghurst Conservation Area". As of 2015, it continues to evolve as one of the last inner-city locations within Sydney to be gentrified.

Beppi's Italian Restaurant is an Australian restaurant that was established on 12 July 1956 in Sydney, specializing in Italian cuisine and founded by Italian-born, chef Beppi Polese and his wife Norma who owned and ran the establishment with their family, including son Marc Polese. The restaurant is world famous having served Prime Minister's, Hollywood stars, rock royalty and the elite.

The Australian Museum is a heritage-listed museum at 1 William Street, Sydney central business district, New South Wales, Australia. It is the oldest museum in Australia, and the fifth oldest natural history museum in the world, with an international reputation in the fields of natural history and anthropology. It was first conceived and developed along the contemporary European model of an encyclopedic warehouse of cultural and natural history and features collections of vertebrate and invertebrate zoology, as well as mineralogy, palaeontology and anthropology. Apart from exhibitions, the museum is also involved in Indigenous studies research and community programs. In the museum's early years, collecting was its main priority, and specimens were commonly traded with British and other European institutions. The scientific stature of the museum was established under the curatorship of Gerard Krefft, himself a published scientist. The museum is located at the corner of William Street and College Street in the Sydney central business district, in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, and was originally known as the Colonial Museum or Sydney Museum. The museum was renamed in June 1836 by a sub-committee meeting, when it was resolved during an argument that it should be renamed the "Australian Museum". The Australian Museum building and its collection was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. The museum is mentioned in the poem William Street by notable Australian poet Henry Lawson. Its current CEO and Executive Director is Kim McKay .

Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) is a not-for-profit national youth theatre company located in Woolloomooloo, New South Wales, Australia. It was founded in 1964 by Eleanor Witcombe.

Sydney Grammar School (SGS, known colloquially as Grammar) is an independent, fee-paying, non-denominational day school for boys, located in Sydney, Australia. Incorporated in 1854 by Act of Parliament and opened in 1857, the school claims to offer a "classical" or "grammar" school education thought of as liberal, humane, pre-vocational pedagogy.As of 2006, Sydney Grammar School had an enrolment of approximately 1,841 students from kindergarten to Year 12, over three campuses. The two preparatory schools (K to 6), are located at Edgecliff in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, and St Ives, on the Upper North Shore. The historic College Street campus caters for students from Forms I to VI (Years 7–12), and is in Darlinghurst. The school is affiliated with the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA), the Junior School Heads Association of Australia (JSHAA), the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference, and is a founding member of the Athletic Association of the Great Public Schools of New South Wales (AAGPS).As of 2019, it ranked the 3rd most expensive school in Australia with an average annual school fee of $36,615 per student.

The Avery Building was the headquarters of the New South Wales Police Force, Australia from the 1970s until 2004, when a new headquarters building was opened at Parramatta in conjunction with police executive offices located in Elizabeth Street, Sydney. The Avery Building was named after long-serving Police Commissioner John Keith Avery, who led the organisation from 1984 to 1991, after his retirement. The building is a tall white structure, about 20 stories tall, located on College Street, Darlinghurst overlooking Hyde Park. The library at the New South Wales Police College has been named The J.K. Avery Resource Centre in recognition of former Commissioner Avery. Since the New South Wales Police vacated the Avery Building it remained vacant for several years. In May 2007 it was announced that it would be converted into apartments. The development application was approved by the City of Sydney Council in December 2007 - DA 2007/1548. The building will contain 87 residences in a mix of 1, 2, and 3+ bedroom apartments, and is being marketed as "The Residence, Hyde Park".The architect of the redesign is Scott Carver Architects. The development was featured in the March 2009 edition of Belle magazine.

William House is a mixed residential and commercial heritage building, located on William Street in Darlinghurst, New South Wales.The property is located on the former site of George Farm, a 70-acre grant made to John Palmer in 1794. William House was designed by architect Percy Gordon Craig, and constructed circa 1928, following the demolition of existing buildings on the southern side of William Street for road widening. The first major tenant was a branch of Cheney's Australia, a company founded by Sydney Albert Cheney, seller of Austin and Morris cars and an associate of William Morris, 1st Viscount Nuffield. In 1927, Morris established Morris (NSW) Pty Ltd to coordinate the sale of Morris cars in Australia; and by 1930 the company had become the principle tenant in William House. Yorks Motors was set up in Williams House as the sole New South Wales distributor of Plymouth and Chrysler cars in 1932.A public artwork, entitled Gadigal Mural, reaches over 25 metres long and 17 meters high across the back of William House on Barnett Lane. The mural was initiated by the Australian Design Centre, designed by Sydney artist Jason Wing, and produced in consultation with the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council.

Whitlam Square, a road junction located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, constitutes an important intersection of major streets in the south-eastern portion of the city's central business district. The square is named in honour of Gough Whitlam, the Prime Minister of Australia from 1972-75.Streets intersecting at Whitlam Square include Oxford Street, Liverpool Street, College Street and Wentworth Avenue. The south-east corner of Hyde Park is located at the square, with the HMAS Sydney I - SMS Emden Memorial, consisting of a 105-millimetre (4.1 in) gun from the German light cruiser SMS Emden, facing into the square.Holdsworthy Gallery is identified at times as being at the Whitlam Square end of Liverpool Street.The Sydney YMCA also identified as located at the square.

A bronze statue of the British explorer Captain James Cook stands in Hyde Park, Sydney, Australia. Designed by Thomas Woolner and unveiled in 1879, the statue is larger than life and depicts Cook holding a telescope in his left hand with his right hand extended towards the sky.

HMAS Sydney I - SMS Emden Memorial is a heritage-listed former foreign naval ship gun and now war memorial and war trophy located in Hyde Park, on the corner of Liverpool and College Streets in the Sydney central business district, in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by City of Sydney and built from 1917 by Messrs Loveridge and Hudson, Redfern. It is also known as HMAS Sydney 1 - SMS Emden Memorial (moveable heritage item) and Emden Gun. The property is owned by City of Sydney. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 27 February 2015.

GA Zink and Sons Building is a heritage-listed retail building at 56 Oxford Street in the inner city Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.
