Loughgall ambush

Lakeview Park is a football stadium in Loughgall, Northern Ireland. It is the home ground of Loughgall F.C. The stadium holds approximately 1,300 spectators. As the name suggests, Lakeview Park is adjacent to a lake.

The Battle of the Diamond was a planned confrontation between the Catholic Defenders and the Protestant Peep o' Day Boys that took place on 21 September 1795 near Loughgall, County Armagh, Ireland. The Peep o' Day Boys were the victors, killing some 6 Defenders, with some wounded Peep o day boys in return. It led to the foundation of the Orange Order and the onset of "the Armagh outrages".

Loughgall ( lokh-GAWL; from Irish Loch gCál) is a small village, townland (of 131 acres) and civil parish in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. It is in the historic baronies of Armagh and Oneilland West. It had a population of 282 people (116 households) in the 2011 Census. Loughgall was named after a small nearby loch. The village is surrounded by orchards.

Retreat Halt railway station was on the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) in Northern Ireland. The Great Northern Railway (Ireland) opened the station on 1 November 1936. It closed on 10 October 1957. As of 2014, it was reported that there was a potential to reopen several railway lines in Northern Ireland, including the Portadown to Armagh section.

The River Tall is a small river in County Armagh, Northern Ireland which joins the River Blackwater just south of Verner’s Bridge. It is navigable for 4 km by dinghy or canoe.It rises about 5 km west of Markethill and flows north by Richhill and Ballyhegan, and then turns west. Originally it flowed into the River Callan at Fairlawn Bridge, but was diverted into a cut excavated in 1851–4, which intercepts it at a point 2 km above the former confluence and conveys it directly to the Blackwater just above Verner's Bridge. The "Old Course of the Tall", from the interception down to Fairlawn Bridge, is so named on maps of the time, but it is unnamed on more recent OSNI maps, and may have been partially filled in. A second cut, completed in 1855, partly diverted the Callan, by means of a weir at Clonmain Mill near the junction of the Summerisland Road and the Cloveneden Road, to the Tall at a point 0.3 km above the latter's own diversion, but the bulk of the Callan has continued in its original course. Both cuts are labelled "Callan River (New Course)" on maps of the time, but are unnamed on more recent OSNI maps.In common usage, the name "Tall River" is now extended to include the first cut, all the way from the interception down to the Blackwater, but OSNI maps attach the name only to the part upstream from the interception. Derrycrew (from Irish Doire craobh, meaning 'oak of the wide branching trees') is a townland of 444 acres in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. It is situated in the civil parish of Loughgall and the historic barony of Oneilland West.

Ardress House is a country house in Annaghmore, County Armagh, in Northern Ireland. The house was owned by the Clarke, then Ensor families, including the writer and lawyer George Ensor. The estate, which includes orchards, a farm and a dairy, borders the River Tall. Collections within the house include eighteenth-century paintings and furniture. In 1959, the National Trust acquired Ardress from Captain Charles Ensor with support from the Ulster Land Fund.

Ardress (formerly Ardreske, from Irish Ardriasc, meaning 'height of the marsh') is a hamlet and townland between Loughgall and Annaghmore in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. It is made up of Ardress East and Ardress West. It is within the civil parish of Loughgall and barony of Oneilland West. It had a population of 90 people (39 households) in the 2011 Census.

Annaghmore ( ann-ə-MOR; from Irish Eanach Mór, meaning 'great marsh') is a small village and townland (of 786 acres) near Loughgall in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. It is situated in the civil parish of Loughgall and the historic barony of Oneilland West. It had a population of 265 people (93 households) in the 2011 Census. (2001 Census: 255 people)

Richhill railway station was on the Ulster Railway in Northern Ireland. The Ulster Railway opened the station on 1 March 1848. It closed on 10 October 1957.

The Armagh rail disaster happened on 12 June 1889 near Armagh, County Armagh, in Ireland, when a crowded Sunday school excursion train had to negotiate a steep incline; the steam locomotive was unable to complete the climb and the train stalled. The train crew decided to divide the train and take forward the front portion, leaving the rear portion on the running line. The rear portion was inadequately braked and ran back down the gradient, colliding with a following train. Eighty people were killed and 260 were injured, about a third of them children. It was the worst rail disaster in the United Kingdom in the nineteenth century, and to this day remains the worst railway disaster in Irish history. It is the fourth worst railway accident in the history of the post-independence United Kingdom. At the time, the disaster led directly to various safety measures becoming legal requirements for railways in the United Kingdom. This was important both for the measures introduced and for the move away from voluntarism and towards more direct state intervention in such matters.

Collegeland (or Collegelands - Irish: An Choláiste) is a semi-rural area in north County Armagh, Northern Ireland. It includes the townlands of Aghinlig, Keenaghan, Lislasley, Kinnego, Mullaghmore, and Tirmacrannon near the village of Charlemont and just across the River Blackwater from Moy, County Tyrone, within the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area. It had a population of 122 people (42 households) in the 2011 Census.In 1859, the lease of the Collure estate (as it was then known) was inherited at his father's death by John Howard Parnell, elder brother of Charles Stewart Parnell. In 1879, John Parnell, financially strapped, offered his subtenants terms on which to purchase their own farms, according to the "John Bright Clauses" of the Landlord and Tenant (Ireland) Act 1870. As late as 1980, tenant farmers in the area paid rent to the estate of Olivia Parnell (widow of John Howard Parnell).
