Lacedonia Cathedral

Lacedonia (Irpinian: Cerònne) is a comune in the province of Avellino, Campania region, southern Italy, overlooking the Osento River which flows into the Lago di San Pietro (Lake of Saint Peter), an artificial lake. The town is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ariano Irpino-Lacedonia.

The 1930 Irpinia earthquake occurred at 00:08 UTC on 23 July, chiefly in an area known as Irpinia. It had a surface wave magnitude of 6.6 and a maximum intensity of X (Very destructive). The event caused 1,404 deaths and 4,624–7,000 injuries. The epicenter was near the boundaries between the regions of Basilicata, Apulia, and Campania.

The 1694 Irpinia–Basilicata earthquake occurred on 8 September. It caused widespread damage in the Basilicata and Apulia regions of what was then the Kingdom of Naples, resulting in more than 6,000 casualties. The earthquake occurred at 11:40 UTC and lasted between 30 and 60 seconds.

Deliceto (Irpinian: Delecìte) is a small town and comune in the province of Foggia, from which it is 40.3 kilometres (25.0 mi), in the Apulia region of southeast Italy. Adjacent towns are Ascoli Satriano (to the east); Bovino, Castelluccio dei Sauri (to the north and the north-west); Sant'Agata di Puglia (to the south); Candela (to the south-east); Accadia (to the south-west). Deliceto rises on the peak of a hill, surrounded by woods and streams. The municipality's territory lies between 207 and 951 metres (679 and 3,120 ft) above sea level. Its name is due to the Latin expression "Deo licet", i.e. "It is alright to God".

Vallata (Irpino: Vaddàta) is a town and comune in the province of Avellino, Campania, Italy. Located in the Apennines between the Ufita Valley and Daunian Mountains, the town is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ariano Irpino-Lacedonia. Its territory borders the municipalities of Bisaccia, Carife, Guardia Lombardi, Scampitella, and Trevico.

Monteleone di Puglia (Irpinian: Munteleòne) is a hill town and comune of the province of Foggia in the Apulia region of south-eastern Italy. Its territory borders the municipalities of Accadia, Anzano di Puglia, Ariano Irpino (AV), Panni, San Sossio Baronia (AV), Sant'Agata di Puglia, Savignano Irpino (AV), Zungoli (AV).

Compsa (modern Conza della Campania) was an ancient city of the Hirpini, near the sources of the Aufidus, on the boundary of Lucania and not far from that of Apulia, on a ridge 609 m above sea level. It was betrayed to Hannibal in 216 BC after the defeat of Cannae, but recaptured two years later. It was probably occupied by Sulla in 89 BC, and was the scene of the death of Titus Annius Milo in 48 BC.Most modern sources, for example Hülsen in Pauly-Wissowa's Realencyclopädie (Stuttgart, 1901, iv. 797), refer Caesar's Commentarii de Bello Civili (iii. 22) and Pliny's Naturalis Historiæ to this place, supposing the ancient manuscripts to be corrupt. Thus the usual identification of the site of Milo's death with Cassano allo Ionio on the Gulf of Taranto must be incorrect.In imperial times, as inscriptions show, it was a municipium, but it lay far from any of the main highways. The ruins of the ancient city were studied again, when they reappeared after the destruction of the modern town in the 1980 Irpinia earthquake.

Lago di Conza is a reservoir in the Campania region of southern Italy. It is in the province of Avellino near the border with the province of Salerno and the province of Potenza. The Ofanto flows into and out of the reservoir. The reservoir was created in the 1970s for the generation of electricity.
