County Cork (Irish: Contae Chorcaí) is the largest and the southernmost county of Ireland, named after the city of Cork, Ireland's second-largest city. It is in the province of Munster and the Southern Region. Its largest market towns are Mallow, Macroom, Midleton, and Skibbereen. As of 2016 the county had a population of 542,868, making it the third-most populous county in Ireland. Cork County Council is the local authority for the county, while Cork City Council governs the city of Cork and its environs. Notable Corkonians include Michael Collins, Jack Lynch, and Sonia O'Sullivan. Cork borders four other counties: Kerry to the west, Limerick to the north, Tipperary to the north-east and Waterford to the east. The county contains a section of the Golden Vale pastureland that stretches from Kanturk in the north to Allihies in the south. The south-west region, including West Cork, is one of Ireland's main tourist destinations, known for its rugged coast and megalithic monuments and as the starting point for the Wild Atlantic Way. The largest third-level institution is University College Cork, founded in 1845, has a total student population of around 22,000. Local industry and employers include technology company Dell EMC, the European headquarters of Apple, and the farmer-owned dairy co-operative Dairygold. The county is known as the "rebel county", a name given to it by King Henry VII of England for its support, in a futile attempt at a rebellion in 1491, of Perkin Warbeck, who claimed to be Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York.

Waterloo Round Tower

The Waterloo Round Tower is a folly bell tower in Waterloo village in Ballygibbon townland, 2 kilometers north of Blarney in county Cork, Ireland. It is situated next to St. Mary's church on a hill, and overlooks the River Martin and the 18th-century Putland's Bridge which predates the tower. The tower was built in 1843 to resemble mediaeval round towers which are common in Ireland, but is otherwise unrelated to them.

Blarney Stone

The Blarney Stone (Irish: Cloch na Blarnan) is a block of Carboniferous limestone built into the battlements of Blarney Castle, Blarney, about 8 kilometres (5 miles) from Cork, Ireland. According to legend, kissing the stone endows the kisser with the gift of the gab (great eloquence or skill at flattery). The stone was set into a tower of the castle in 1446. The castle is a popular tourist site in Ireland, attracting visitors from all over the world to kiss the stone and tour the castle and its gardens. The word blarney has come to mean "clever, flattering, or coaxing talk". Irish politician John O'Connor Power defined it this way: "Blarney is something more than mere flattery. It is flattery sweetened by humour and flavoured by wit. Those who mix with Irish folk have many examples of it in their everyday experience." Letitia Elizabeth Landon described its contemporary meaning in an article entitled 'Blarney Castle' in 1832.

Blarney Castle

Blarney Castle (Irish: Caisleán na Blarnan) is a medieval stronghold in Blarney, near Cork, Ireland. Though earlier fortifications were built on the same spot, the current keep was built by the MacCarthy of Muskerry dynasty, a cadet branch of the Kings of Desmond, and dates from 1446. The Blarney Stone is among the machicolations of the castle.

Blarney GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the town of Blarney, County Cork, Ireland. The club fields Gaelic football, hurling and camogie teams in competitions organized by Cork GAA county board and the Muskerry divisional board. In 2008, the club won the Premier division of the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship, and played in the Cork Senior Hurling Championship in 2009.

It is located to the northwest of the city, approximately 3 km from the town of Blarney on the R617 road. Together with Blarney, Tower is a satellite or dormitory town of Cork city. Tower is part of the Dáil constituency of Cork North-Central. As of the 2016 census of Ireland, the village had a population of 3,421.

Grenagh

Grenagh (Irish: Greanach) is a village close to Mallow in County Cork, Ireland. It is situated approximately 1 km from the main Cork-Limerick N20 road. The village is served by St. Lachteen's Catholic Church. The local Gaelic Athletic Association, Grenagh GAA, have twice won the Cork Intermediate A Football Championship. Grenagh is part of the Cork North-Central (Dáil constituency).
