Goshedan

Burntollet Bridge was the setting for an attack on 4 January 1969 during the first stages of the Troubles of Northern Ireland. A People's Democracy march from Belfast to Derry was attacked by Ulster loyalists whilst passing through Burntollet. The march had been called in defiance of an appeal by Northern Ireland Prime Minister Terence O'Neill for a temporary end to protest. The Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association and some Derry nationalists had advised against it. Supporters of Ian Paisley, led by Major Ronald Bunting, denounced the march as seditious and mounted counter-demonstrations along the route.At Burntollet an Ulster loyalist crowd numbering in the region of 300, including 100 off-duty members of the Ulster Special Constabulary (USC), attacked the civil rights marchers from adjacent high ground. Stones transported in bulk from William Leslie's quarry at Legahurry were used in the assault, as well as iron bars and sticks spiked with nails. Nearby members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) did little to prevent the violence. Many of the marchers described their assailants' lack of concern about the police presence. The violence was followed by renewed riots in Derry City. Terence O'Neill described the march as "a foolhardy and irresponsible undertaking" and said that some of the marchers and their supporters in Derry were "mere hooligans", outraging many, especially as the attackers had evaded prosecution. Loyalists celebrated the attack as a victory over Catholic "rebels".The ambush at Burntollet irreparably damaged the credibility of the RUC. Professor Paul Bew, an academic at Queen's University Belfast who as a student had participated in the march, described it as "the spark that lit the prairie fire" (i.e. led to the Troubles).

Drumahoe (from Irish Droim na hUamha 'ridge of the cave') is a village and townland in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It lies to the east of Derry. It is home to Institute F.C., an NIFL Championship football club. The busy A6 road from Belfast to Derry passes through the townland. It is situated within Derry and Strabane district.

Lettershandoney or Lettershendony (from Irish Leitir Seanduine, meaning 'hillside of the old people' or Leitir Seandomhnaigh meaning "hillside of the old church") is a small village and townland in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, six miles to the southeast of Derry and three miles east of Drumahoe. In the 2001 census it had a population of 506 people. It is situated within Derry and Strabane district. Lettershandoney has ten recorded spellings of its name, dating back to 1613.In 2009 Lettershandoney and District Development Group carried out a community audit, highlighting the problems of the Lettershandoney Estate, the main housing area of the village, in terms of high unemployment, poverty and ill health, vandalism and alcohol and drug abuse, as well as lack of community facilities. In August 2011, a Lettershandoney Strategic Vision and Action Plan was produced by consultants on behalf of ARC (Assisting Rural Communities) north west. The resulting village plan aims to enhance community facilities and services, as well as environmental quality and transport, while protecting the character of the village. The village has some 150 houses and a primary school.

Ardmore (from Irish An tArd Mór, meaning 'the great height') is a village and townland in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 210. It is within Derry and Strabane district. Ardmore has a number of sports teams including cricket, soccer and Gaelic football.

Killaloo (from Irish Coill a' Lao, meaning 'wood of the calf' or Cill Dhalua meaning "Dalua's church") is a townland and hamlet in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is about six miles southeast of Derry, on the main Derry to Belfast road. In the 2001 Census Killaloo had a population of 75 people. It is situated within Derry and Strabane district. The nearest shops and amenities are in the village of Claudy, to the southeast.

Tamnaherin (possibly from the Irish: Tamhnach Caorthainn) is a townland and small housing estate in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 123 people. It is situated within Derry and Strabane district.

Liscloon is a small townland and settlement in County Tyrone. It is situated 2 miles from Donemana and 7 miles from Claudy. The area is sparsely populated although around 80 people reside in Liscloon. Altnachree Castle, also known as Liscloon House and Ogilby's Castle, still stands in Liscloon today. It was built in 1860 by William Ogilby.Liscloon is divided into Liscloon Lower and Liscloon Upper.

Riverside Stadium, formerly the YMCA Grounds, was a football stadium in Drumahoe, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is the former home ground of Institute F.C. of the NIFL. The stadium held 3,110 people with 1,540 seated. In 1980, a site at Drumahoe was purchased jointly by the Presbyterian Working Men's Institute (of which Institute was the football team) and the local YMCA. The new football grounds were not opened officially until January 1985, but Institute had been playing at the YMCA Grounds since 1980.The development of a stadium began in 1995 when the club established a committee to plan its development with a view to gaining entry to the Irish League B Division, the top level of intermediate football. The ground was enclosed by a new security fence, and new changing rooms, toilets, facilities for disabled fans, rooms for hospitality and a shop, and two new turnstiles were added and admission to the B Division was achieved in 1996. A second phase of development resulted in the erection of a new 300-seater stand and floodlights. This was enough to gain senior status with admission to the Irish League First Division in 1999.In May 2008, the club secured £800,000 worth of funding for improvements to the ground. In May 2009, the club installed new floodlights at each corner of the ground, and in November 2010, more ground development began, involving the building of a new 800-seater stand at one of the goal-mouths. This work was completed in August 2011.Severe flooding through the North-West of Northern Ireland on the evening of 22 August 2017 devastated Institute when the ground was destroyed by water reaching as high as 7 foot inside changing rooms and with 5 foot of sediment piled on top of what was left of the playing surface (which would later develop Japanese Knotweed). The perimeter fence was ripped out and nearby trees were uprooted, some of which were washed onto the pitch. This resulted in the closure of the stadium and Institute's relocation to their current temporary home Brandywell Stadium.

Altnagelvin (from Irish Alt na nGealbhán, meaning 'Glen/height of the sparrows') is a townland in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is also the name of an electoral ward in Derry and Strabane district. Formerly a small village, it has been absorbed into the Waterside neighbourhood of Derry. Within Altnagelvin is Altnagelvin Area Hospital, a large hospital which serves the most of the county. The busy A6 road from Belfast to Derry passes through the townland.

Lisbunny (from Irish Lios Buinighe, meaning 'fort of the flood') is a townland of 849 acres in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, about 3 miles Claudy, near the County Tyrone/Londonderry border. It is situated within Derry and Strabane district as well as the civil parish of Cumber Upper and the historic barony of Tirkeeran.It is a rural farming area with few amenities, although it does contain a stone quarry.

Crescent Link Retail Park is a retail park located in the East side of Derry, Northern Ireland. It is located on the east side of the A514, which itself is named Crescent Link and the name given to the retail park. The development is located 3 miles (4.8 km) from the centre of the city centre. It is the largest retail park of its kind in County Londonderry, with a large representation of multi-national retailers, such as Marks & Spencer, Tesco, Homebase, B&M, The Range and Currys

Altnagelvin Area Hospital is the main hospital for the North West of Northern Ireland. It is located in Waterside, Derry. It provides services to the city of Derry and County Londonderry, but also some specialist and acute services for parts of neighbouring County Donegal, County Tyrone, County Antrim and County Fermanagh. It is managed by the Western Health and Social Care Trust.
